INTERVIEW: Creative Director Stefan Campbell Makes Magic at Michael Bastian

Edited by

At 11 A.M. today, Exit Art was bustling with t-shirt-flannel-n-jeans guys with ladders, gold paint, real leaved branches and tree trunks sitting apart, and two Swarovski crystal chandeliers hanging from a rolling rack. This team of set builders were being kindly and meticulously directed by Stefan Campbell, the man responsible for translating Michael Bastian‘s collection into a three dimensional space that garners an emotional reaction from the audience before the clothes hit the runway.  Earlier this week, he removed the front row so Chadwick Bell could have a 14 foot-wide glowing fuchsia runway instead of seven. Today, he’ll be scenting Michael Bastian’s show with Aedes. After speaking with Stefan today, we can confirm that he knows the tricks to making a runway show magical. See Stefan Campbell’s secret tips and advice at the end of the interview. And we’ll go see the show now.

The Lady Vanishes: 5 Konspiracy Theories Why Karlie Kloss Kancelled on NYFW

Edited by

Karlie Kloss won’t be making any appearances on the runways during New York Fashion Week this season because “an engagement has come up.” This alleged engagement means a loss of thousands upon thousands of dollars for the super-in-training so whatever reason it is, it must be something good. Karlie Kloss Steps Out a Lady In Vogue

Edited by

We’ve been laboring under the impression that Karlie Kloss had her coming-of-aging party in that naked yet demure Allure spread by Mario Testino. Now, months later for March 2012 Vogue, she emerges as a lady. Fully attired in the most ladylike of looks. Swathed in Chanel, Prada, Dolce & Gabbana, Moschino Cheap & Chic ($665 for a sequined cardi – neither that cheap nor chic… I digress), and some other of Queen Anna Wintour‘s all time favorite advertisers designers, Karlie looks like the proper woman of the house. Strong. Do you see those poses? She’s matrixing in stilettos, her body is practically horizontal in some, captured moving through space on an arched foot. It’s called WERQ.

Behind the Scenes with Karlie Kloss & Numéro Paris

Edited by

Karlie Kloss is mind-blowingly sexy on the cover of Numéro‘s December 2011-January 2012 cover, and we’re lusting over the towering, talented model per usual. Strutting about in front of Greg Kadel‘s lens in thigh high patent leather boots, monstrous fur coats and an embellished, feathered evening gown, Kloss’ spread is beyond stunning. Check out the behind the scenes video, shot in Montauk, NY, after the jump.

Christian Dior Spring 2012 Haute Couture an Exercise in “Sheer” Boredom

Edited by

Bill Gaytten and the hardworking hands of the Christian Dior atelier returned this haute couture season with a much more subdued collection than last fall’s largely-derided offering. Trading in silly headpieces and deafeningly loud prints for cleaner silhouettes and a sedate color palette of largely whites, greys and blacks, the aesthetic pendulum swung rather violently. The storied house has also adopted the industry-wide obsession with sheer panels and overlays, already brought to its perfect zenith by Givenchy seasons ago. Still present, however, was the classic Dior New Look shape of  a cinched waist and a full skirt. While this haute couture collection was a deliberately safer outing for the still-creative-director-less Dior, it understandably and inevitably came off more than just a little boring. Gaytten and co. have yet to strike the right balance between the house’s glorious past and the fantastical places John Galliano took it during his legendary reign. But at least they got one thing right: Karlie Kloss was back opening the show. If you want a strong start, there’s no better hoofer in the game. Check out some highlights — and a few lowlights —  from Christian Dior’s spring 2012 haute couture show after the jump!
