Emmanuelle Alt Wants You to Wake Her Up Before You Go-Go

Jitterbug. Emmanuelle Alt has finally made me not long for the kohl-eyed, pencil-skirted days of Carine Roitfeld and all it took was a few dozen models or so in a pitch-perfect parody of Wham!‘s “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go.” To fete the relaunch of French Vogue‘s website, its editrix-in-chic recruited Anja Rubik, Kendra Spears, Karmen Pedaru and Jasmine Tooks to back her up in a feat of lip-synching that would put Madonna to shame. And while Alt is not as pretty as 80s-era George Michael — then again, who is? — she sure gives him a run for his jitterbugging money. Check out the thoroughly AMAZING clip after the jump.

- The official Royal Wedding photos are out and are adorable. Shot by Hugo Burnand, the royal family and the Middletons gathered in the the throne room of Buckingham Palace for a family portrait, Windsor style. Meanwhile, the design community has weighed in on Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge‘s Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen wedding dress and the overall opinion is “You go, girl.” [Fashionologie]

- But what does this mean for Burton and the McQueen brand? A series of industry insiders, retail experts and just plain know-it-alls agree that landing the royal wedding dress was a large coup for the Alexander McQueen label, particularly with the Met Costume Institute Gala and Savage Beauty exhibit opening this week. McQueen will become a household name — though it was already that in my household — and will now have a “guaranteed legacy” while “taming” the house’s trademark “edginess.” Sales are expected to go through the roof due to a new, heretofore unseen level of awareness for the McQueen brand and as for Burton; rumors are reaching a fever pitch over her possibly serving as a replacement for John Galliano at Dior. But with the spectacular success of the new Duchess’s wedding gown, PPR (McQueen’s parent company) would likely do everything in its power to keep her on…at least if they were smart they would. - Model Agency Wars! After Next Model Management sued Ford Models for allegedly poaching a trio of models — Karmen Pedaru, Anna Aleksandra Cywinska, and Anna J. — DNA has gotten litigious over Maryna Linchuk, whom they claim Ford “solicited and induced” to break contract. DNA’s result? They’re suing Ford for $2 million. Big game hunting in the wilds of the modeling world can get very expensive. [Fashionista]

For Whom the Belle Tolls: A High Fashion Royal Wedding

With the Royal Wedding creeping achingly closer each day, British Vogue would be remiss if they didn’t feature at least one editorial homage to the Prince William-Kate Middleton hysteria gripping both sides of the Atlantic. In “Wedding Belles,” Mario Testino does the honors, capturing Arizona Muse, Fei Fei Sun, Kirsi Pyrhonen, Madelene De La Motte, Irina Berezina and Karmen Pedaru as they’re besieged by men and women in uniform while maintaining their matrimonial cool .

Stylist Lucinda Chambers has Arizona taking flight in Elie Saab Haute Couture and Kirsi making waves in Marchesa, as Madeleine and Irina draw a cockney crowd in Vivienne Westwood.

Meanwhile, Fei Fei and Arizona are ready to cause a five-alarm fire in Alberta Ferretti and Carolina Herrera, respectively; luckily there’s a response team in the neighborhood.

Karmen is every inch the fairy tale princess in Dior Haute Couture and though there is nary a prince in sight, she could easily settle for a Lt. Charming of the Household Regiment – D Squadron.

Fei Fei, however is ready to find herself a few good men– and at least one boyish girl — in Jenny Packham.

All of these gowns are sickeningly gorgeous, but which one would you prefer to see the future princess Naomi Campbell-walk down the aisle in?

I’m a traditionalist and have always wanted to get married in Dior Haute Couture…my bridesmaids, all drag queens in Chanel Couture, deathdropping down the aisle while Liz Taylor officiates in a Givenchy Couture catsuit. Sadly, that dream is now missing a Dame.

Models Suing Next for $3.75 Million

Karmen Pedaru (pictured), Anna Jagodzinska and Ania Cywinska are suing their former agency, Next, for stiffing them out of $750,000 in earnings, in addition to $1 million each in punitive damages.

The three catwalkers left Next Model Management earlier this year in April. After switching agencies (all three migrated to Ford), they allege that Next refused to pay them their outstanding earnings. Pedaru claims withheld compensation in excess of $400, 000 and Jagodzinska seeks $320,000. Cywinska is slacking on her model game as she says she’s only owed $30,000.

If I were Next, I would pony up because those Eastern Europeans have no problem busting some knee caps to get their dough. They may look sickly thin, but before they were models who do you think was pulling the tractors and schlepping the yak intestines from town to town?

I really like this spread shot by Simon Burstal for Russh Australia. Model Karmen Pedaru shows a wide range of emotions, changing as quickly as her outfits. The blazer in this photo is phenomenal; it looks great on her with the high-waisted brief. That’s what I love about Pedaru in this spread- although most of the garments are outrageous, she looks like she could totally rock them just walking down the street.
