RUNWAY RUNDOWN: Rodarte S/S 10

RUNWAY RUNDOWN: Rodarte S/S 10 emerging fashionIt’s safe to say that Kate and Laura Mulleavy’s Spring 2010 Rodarte collection was a stress release. They ripped, tore and destroyed to their heart’s content taking their glamorous grungy appeal and increasing it tenfold. This season was all about confidence in flaws, and isn’t it obvious with all the sloppy, yet precise, draping and unique tears? While I did appreciate a grubbier vibe from Rodarte, I was a bit distracted by the arm tattoos and felt that the collection would have spoken louder sans the body art.

SPREAD UM: Designers On Sesame Street menswear designers

We aren’t exactly thrilled that he got it first, but Perez Hilton was sent over a new spread from the Harper’s Bazaar September issue featuring designers Oscar de la RentaDiane von FurstenburgVera WangDerek LamThakoon PanichgulFrancisco CostaCarolina Herrera, and Rodarte’s Kate and Laura Mulleavy alongside the Muppets from Sesame Street.  Coco Perez made his first mistake by not crediting the photographer, but we aren’t able to leave a comment complaining.

The Mummy Revealed: Rodarte Fall 2009 Jewelry

The Mummy Revealed: Rodarte Fall 2009 Jewelry emerging fashionThe Mummy Revealed: Rodarte Fall 2009 Jewelry emerging fashionThe Mummy Revealed: Rodarte Fall 2009 Jewelry emerging fashionWhat do you get when you mix Sylvia Plath’s symbolic bell jar with Mary Shelly’s Frankenstein laboratory? None other than Mark Walsh and Leslie Chin’s Fall 2009 jewelry collection for Rodarte. Sadly enough, the pieces didn’t make it to the runway in time for February’s fashion week but fortunately, they will be available for purchase! To compliment Rodarte’s mummified collection, Walsh and Chin created evocative geodes under jars and tangled broken glass, so very reminiscent of our high school chemistry courses. The 21-piece lineup will be sold at Colette in Paris and Capitol in Charlotte, North Carolina this fall.

The Reason I’ll Never Wear A Black Cardigan Again…

The Reason Ill Never Wear A Black Cardigan Again... emerging fashion

Two of these things are not like the others...

Here is a hypothetical situation…pretend you are Kate and Laura Mulleavy : you and your sister own a fashion label named after your mother’s maiden name. You started off small but almost immediately scored a spot in the big leagues because of your meticulous detail and downright fantastic taste in design. So, you recently won the annual Swiss Textile Award, presented by Marios Schwab, scoring yourselves 100,000 Euros (that’s over $125,00…) and what did you wear to accept this award? Matching frumpy black cardigans, matching ugly ballet flats, wrinkly Wal-Mart jeans and ill-fitted dress pants. Really…and you two call yourselves fashion designers? Why don’t you mirror your phenomenal designs, get yourselves a stylist, a haircut, some make-up and suck it up, wear some heels.

Same cardigans, new sneakers. Vomit.
