Singing The Blues: The Stella McCartney Quartet

costume gala arrivals 8 040509I really don’t understand the hype about Stella McCartney’s crew at last night’s Met Costume Institute Gala. Liv Tyler, Kate Hudson and Kate Bosworth, including the designer herself, all wore what many critics claim to be “glamorous” and “stunning” McCartney pieces. Well, I hate to break it to the fashion world, but there is nothing glamorous or stunning about funerals, $30 prom dresses, hanky panky jumpsuits or your dead grandmother’s closet:

Probably the best of the bunch, Kate Bosworth looks like she is bound for a 1920’s themed funeral with that full length black dress and sheer paneling. Just throw on a big black sun-hat and move over Angelina Jolie, Bosworth is ready to steal your role in Changeling.

In digression, Kate Hudson looks frighteningly like the girl who went with the disco ball to my senior prom. The golden shimmer is nauseating and the halterneck dress, well, I owned a dress like that 3 years ago.

Moving further down the totem pole is miss Stella herself. I’m all for jumpsuits, but when you’re wearing what appears to be an envelope of lacy underwear, that’s where I draw the line. And besides, is this even formal enough for a Met Gala?

And taking the prize for the McCartney crew reject is Liv Tyler, wearing a sparkly blue gown that I swear I saw for free at The Salvation Army. The sleeves, front pleat, sparkles and waist high slit make for a sleazier version of a a grandma gown.

Thanks Catwalk Queen!

MOMENT OF STYLE: Kate Bosworth all indie

Ah, trust Alexander McQueen to make a Resort piece I actually like!

Kate Bosworth went to the 2009 Vanity Fair Oscar Party in West Hollywood Sunday night in a shiny Alexander McQueen Resort dress.

The silhouette is sleek and simple, a nice complement to the intricacy and iridescence.

She also boldly mixed metallics, and got away with wearing gold and silver.

Kate Bosworth looked pretty cute at Global Green USA’s pre-Oscar party Thursday night in Hollywood.

I love the natural makeup and tousled hair in particular. The strapless black dress is Loewe Spring 2009.

Spread Um: Kate Bosworth for Tank Magazine emerging fashion

Kate Bosworth looks great in the new spread for Tank magazine. The American beauty shows off her edgy side, baring more than she usually does for the press. The nude makeup is absolutely perfect for the garments and mood of the photos. But I’m a little upset that Christmas has already passed because I want the shoes she’s wearing on the cover. I guess there’s always my birthday- February 10th Indies, write it down!

Thanks to Egotastic! for the photos.

Raquel Zimmermann looks amazing!

Would it kill Agyness to dress nicely for once? She looks like a pirate, with stupid pirate hair!

Fabiola Beracasa failed to impress with the random blue biked gloves, and less than impressive belt. Good try though.

Eve had the right color pallet, and she looked good for Eve, but still isn't quite there.

Zaha Hadid is the architect for this whole project, and this is her outfit. Maybe she should have pulled a Martin Margiela and stayed incognito.

These weren’t the only good and bad outfits of the night, check out Zimbio for more pictures from the Chanel party.

Kate Bosworth looked flawless at the premiere event for the opening of the Chanel Mobile Exhibit Monday night in Central Park. She looked so good that she was even photographed with Mr. Chanel himself Karl Lagerfeld. Now I’m going to completely honest with you, when I first saw that picture of Karl I thought it was a wax statue that was part fo the exhibit (he’s a bit on the creepy side). Any ways, Kate looked great in this amazing silver dress, by far one of the best dressed there. Keep up the good work Kate!

Thanks JustJared for the pictures.

Plaid is back! From flannels to chic coats, the pattern is a fall staple. Lately, the trend has been everywhere! Plaid summer bags, skirts and bathing suits are dominating the beaches.

Gossip Girl’s, Ed Westwick has paid homage to his character, by launching his own line, that embraces Chuck Bass’s style. Moreover, Westwick’s collection will be primarily plaid pieces, inspired by Gossip Girl’s private school chic style.

Another designer notorious for his plaid inspiration is Alexander McQueen. No one will ever forget SJP’s quirky tartan gown, courtesy of Mr. McQueen. He has always loved the Scottish inspired print and we are finally catching on.

Plaid embodies 90’s grunge while maintaining a new classic twist. Embrace the trend while it lasts!

I think most will agree that Kate Bosworth is beautiful, but it’s always interesting to see what celebs turn into when shot for magazine covers. Between the stylists, hair and makeup artists, and final photoshoping, anyone can go from regular to absolutely gorgeous. Here are some sneak peak shots from Australian Harper’s Bazaar with Kate.

Beauty Spark: A Crimp in Your Step

Beauty Spark: A Crimp in Your Step emerging fashion

Ever since I thought I saw Kate Bosworth with crimped hair, I’ve been thinking about the 80’s doo. The look requires a bit of dedication since a chemical crimping can leave your hair crimppled (crimp+crippled) for quite sometime, but with the right cut, the look can totally be an updated classic worth your attention.

Check out the images here from the recent Uma issue of Another Magazine. The models crimp and styling make the look seem ready for a ‘08 redux.

Leave it to our readers (thanks Anon) to call us out when our asses are wrong. Kate Bosworth does not have crimped hair as we reported earlier.

We were wrong, and our readers are assholes (nah, just joking we love you. be sure to click on ads :-) ) In other news, 21 is still number one for the second week in a row, which means 212 is right around the corner (I hear this time the math geeks decide to take on Atlantic City but then Trump finds out and tries to enlists Kevin Spacey for Celebrity Apprentice).

Congrats Kate on not having stupid hair and having a good movie out there, but can you hurry up and make Blue Crush 2. I miss seeing Michelle Rodriquez in a bathsuit since she was offed on Lost.

TrendSpark: Crimped Hair independent beauty

Can I just denounce this one early?  This looks stupid. No man or woman wants to see you with crimped hair, seriously, I promise.  Crimping your hair is the equivalent of taking a blast of ugly to the face. Kate Bosworth looks like my dog Calvin when he goes out in the rain and that ain’t cute.   Please do not follow this trend or I will be forced to attack you with a straightening iron.  Kate is obviously drunk, again.
