Everyone and their post-partum depressed mother hovered on down to Chicago’s United Center for the filming of Surprise Oprah! A Farewell Spectacular — her two penultimate shows before the Apocalypse finale May 25th.

Tom Hanks, noted maniac Tom Cruise, noted maniac Madonna, Dakota Fanning, Halle Berry, noted coma victim Katie Holmes, scissor sisters Queen Latifah and Rosie O’Donnell, the Pinkett-Smiths and BFFs Gayle King and Maria Shriver — who had a brave face put on for her last minute as her husband had just admitted that in addition to iron he was pumping the help — all showed up to “surprise” and pay tribute to their queen.

Sidebar: Oprah is omniscient, like all deities, so there was no pulling the wool over those bag-ridden eyes.

Oprah clearly doesn’t fuck around and considering these were her second and third-to-last shows, I can only imagine what the final episode will  be: disaster.

Starring roles: Honestly, I’ve been more inspired by Mia’s stunning editorials as of late than her red carpet style. She’s super talented and naturally beautiful plus with a slew of upcoming roles, she’ll have plenty of time to brush up on her style notes.

Starring roles: When Karl Lagerfeld handpicks you to be the Chanel Purse Ambassador, you’re officially an icon. Best known for her penchant for Gossip, Blake surprised everyone with a dramatic turn in The Town (2010) and will soon be feeling up Ryan Reynold‘s muscled, latex-clad torso in this summer’s Green Lantern. Some ingenues get all the luck.

Keira Knightley

Starring roles: Another of Karl’s favorites, Keira’s been a red carpet highlight for years — I’m still screaming at her in Vera Wang at the 2006 Oscars.*  Though she was keeping a low profile for a while, Knightley came roaring back in this Chanel Couture stunner at the London premiere of Never Let Me Go. Add to that coup her recent Chanel Coco Mademoiselle short film and the upcoming romantic drama Last Night this May.

Leighton Meester

Starring roles: Though she’s the picture of Upper East Side preppy refinement as Blair Waldorf, Leighton’s personal style falls more in the delightfully quirky category. Along with Carey, Leighton is among the most fun and daring of these youthful beauties. Between gigs on Gossip Girl, Meester will next be seen seducing Dr. House himself in The Oranges out later this year.

Starring roles: Black Swan propelled Mila Kunis into a completely different stratosphere, one with awards and critical praise. Starring roles: Honestly, Hathaway’s days as an ingénue are practically through, but having put in her Princess days, she’s succesfully transitioning to a leading lady. She managed to hold up the weight of the entire Academy Awards telecast this year on her bold, tuxedoed shoulders, so her next challenge Anne will be to claw up the screen as Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises.

Most of us have given up on trying to figure out Katie Holmes and her universe long time ago. Maybe one day Isabella and Connor Cruise would write a tell-all book revealing the secrets of their father, his wives and Suri’s wardrobe, but until then all we can do is wear our “Save Katie” t-shirts and dream of a Pacie-Joey reunion.

As for these two looks, I really can’t figure this out. For someone who shops at Hermes as often as I go to Whole Foods, one would really hope Katie can put together better outfits. Especially since both photos were taken in NYC today, and I can tell you neither one is weather-appropriate.

For those not in the know, Hermes’ Birkin bag was named after Jane Birkin in 1984 after the then president of Hermes, Jean-Louis Dumas, spotted the stunning actress struggling with her luggage on a plane. Half of the Birkin’s je n’est ce quoi comes from Ms. Birkin’s name. So who, if anyone, we wonder, will hold the honor of having Hermes’ next it bag named for them? We have a few ideas.

Possibility 1: Lady Gaga
Gaga is probably the only person alive able to alter a Birkin bag without committing a serious crime against fashion. If the brand were trying to move towards an edgier aesthetic, Gaga would be the obvious choice.

Possibility 2: Katie Holmes
There will never be another Jane Birkin, but Katie Holmes’ cropped do and chic wardrobe, paired with her extensive Hermes bag collection, make her (and maybe even fashionista daughter Suri) a good candidate.

Possibility 3: Carla Bruni
A French made bag may best be named after a French beauty. As the prime minister’s wife, and a model, Bruni would suit both an ad campaign and product perfectly.

Possibility 4: Queen Rania of Jordan
She’s stunning, she’s smart, she’s powerful, and she’s always perfectly accessorized. Queen Rania of Jordan, simply based on her Hermes-esque style, could be just the woman to fill the job.

Possibility 5 (and our personal favorite): Carine Roitfeld
As one of the most important people in the fashion industry, the French Vogue editor in chief is an obvious choice for the bag’s name. She’s the epitome of a taste maker and exudes French-classiness.

9. Celebrity sons that look like daughters- Cindy Crawford’s son is literally the most beautiful kid I’ve ever seen, but his hair makes him look like a girl. Kate Hudson and Sarah Jessica Parker’s sons also look like they could be daughters. Haircuts, please.

10. Betsey Johnson- I love her designs, but have always hated her hair. 

11. Robert Pattinson- Not my choice, I love him and his crazy hair, but I do agree, it’s a little too talked about.

12. Rihanna- Time for a new hairstyle, please. I still like it, I always liked it, but it’s getting old.

14. Katie Holmes- Same story as the two above. Moving on.

It feels like forever since we’ve seen Katie attend anything, especially since daily photos of her consist of her signature boyfriend jeans with some sort of tee, it’s nice to finally see her dress up.

Kate came out to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Independent Filmmaker Project in New York, wearing Alexander McQueen and Givenchy gladiators. Not my fave outfit, just because the pants are wrinkled in the wrong places, but she looks great in black and the simplicity of the look showcases her natural beauty.

The baggy, shapeless, saggy-assed boyfriend jean in infiltrating. Fashion It girls are making it happen and as I sit in a coffee shop in Soho, I count the amount of people who are now attempting it. For shame, for SHAME. I can’t stand by this one indies, it’s too careless when done wrong, and since it is rare to see it work on a girl without making her look like a Samantha Ronson stand-in, I’m advising you all stay away. But, if you really must attempt, and can’t seem to get it right, one our our Sayntly bloggers was nice enough to get examples of the boyfriend done right, and done horribly wrong. Enjoysies.

LINKAGE: Everyone Is Wearing Boyfriend Jeans

It’s amazing how long it took before Vicky stole a look for Katie’s playbook.

For a while I thought this friendship was one-sided in a weird, Single White Female sort-of way, in which Katie was trying her best to look like Becks in an attempt to dump the gay alien for the footballer. Of course, now it seems the tables have turned and Victoria is ready to look like Kate. My guess is she wants to trade in those mutant spawns for Suri. Okay, her kids are cute, but come on people, I’d sell a few of my first borns for a Suri anyday.

Now back to the look, yes the boyfriend jeans are suddenly cool again, yes Katie Holmes wore them first, and yes they are friends so these might actually be Katie’s jeans. Only Victoria has added a $15,000 Birkin bag to the mix, her own 8-carat, wrist bending diamond ring, and some cheap ass looking flip flops (prob worth more then my entire wardrobe, but still).

So do we love it, or should she send this look back to Katie and stick to wearing her own collection?

If Katie Holmes had gone for more of a nude lip color instead of matching it to her vintage Christian Lacroix dress, I think this look would have gone over a lot better.  There’s just too much going on.

So another awards show went down over the weekend (The 2009 SAG Awards, the most flatteringly-named awards). It’s only like the second award show of the year, and all the dresses and actresses are already starting to look alike to me. Even Angelina let me down again.

But I’ll be darned if Katie Holmes didn’t just look adorable and elegant in her Jil Sander dress. The dress and hair were slick without looking vampy. And the pointy flesh-toned pumps shouldn’t work. But it’s all so modern and classy.

Looking a little frail but mad elegant (and tall!), Katie Holmes hit the red carpet Tuesday for the German premiere of Valkyrie.

Katie cleaned up in a Morticia Adams-like black jersey v-neck Escada gown — and I’m not a fan of her short hair, but it looks pretty cute here!

A couple months ago we told you about Miu Miu tapping Katie Holmes for Spring 2009.

Vogue UK has just unveiled one shot from the campaign.

Shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, Katie wears a Miuccia Prada-designed dress. The shoot was reportedly inspired by Fellini films and is intended to radiate “mystery and theatricality.”

I’ve always thought Katie photographed well. And while I dislike the short hair on her, the true-to-Miu Miu lighting and styling suit her well.

Are flair jeans coming back in fashion?

Prada (above) tried to bring back the bell bottoms last season, but unseccessfully. Maybe everyone was just waiting for a celeb to bring this look back to the streets. Now that Katie Holmes was spotted rocking these, maybe more of us will look back to grade school, rummage through those boxes in the attic and find your fave pair of MUDDS.

Katie Holmes looks absolutely adorable in her oversized white beanie! It might be a casual look, but Holmes certainly styled it correctly with a matching oversized sweater, large-framed sunglasses, slightly baggy leather zip pants and black flats! The only thing that’s missing is little Suri Cruise in a matching outfit!

Rumor has it that Katie Holmes will be the next star in the Spring 09 Miu Miu campaign. “But she won’t be alone: Real models will reportedly appear in the ads alongside her, as “accessories.”

I think it’s great that society has progressed this far. We’re hardly into the 21st century and already a huge population of the country, and maybe even the world, has embraced gay rights. Free-thinkers are cool with men loving other men, women making out with other women, and so forth. In some states you can even get married, just like boy/girl couples!

…What?  You’re who?

OK so Katie’s just casual here in NY, with nothing sartorially spectacular going on. But does anyone know if that heart is part of the sweater?  I must know how to get that heart logo.
