After viewing the Keds at Opening Ceremony Resort 2012 collection in person, I felt like a character in a modern, ultra cool kid version of Grease. Cropped sweaters and hi-waisted shorts paired together are super sweet while rounded collars and floral prints make field frolicking sound like a swell old time. We can’t get enough! Ahh Memorial Day: beaches, bar-b-ques and bright sunny skies. The first long weekend to commence the summer is upon us, and we couldn’t be more excited to get out of the city and into our new warm-weather clothes. Working in fashion, we know it’s difficult not to be a heavy packer, even when you’re only going away for a few days. So here it is, our picks for three one-bag Memorial Day getaways to the coolest destinations, each within a few short hours of New York City. Keds has definitely been making the rounds, if you know what I mean. As in Keds is a lot like a doorknob, everyone gets a turn. After bedding the Gap, Keds launches another collaboration, this time with artist Jenny Holzer.

Two iconic American brands unite to take on the blank canvas of the Original Sneaker in materials and colors inspired by the Gap fall 2010 line. The collection, which will include both women’s and men’s styles, will retail for $ 39.50 and $49.50, available at all Gap locations or www.gap.com.

The shoes are due out in fall 2010, but will be available in stores starting in July. Women’s Champion styles will come in denim, metallic canvas, and various prints, and prices for both genders will range from $40 to $50.

Keds will be collaborating with the Gap this upcoming summer. The shoes, designed by Patrick Robinson, will come in washed-out denims and pastels. Prices have not yet been announced.
