One of the most striking women in film, on the red carpet and in fashion spreads, look no further for Swinton’s editorial excellence than this month’s W.

Oval Face - Congratulations oval faced ladies -  you have the most versatile face shape and can wear almost any hairstyle you want with grace and ease.

What to try - A tousled bob like Victoria Beckham‘s above will bring out the angles in your face to accentuate cheekbones. Both blunt and breezy bangs will frame your face as will long, wavy locks ala Kate Hudson.

What to avoid - Short layers will make your face look a little too long. Styles that hang too much in the eyes and face will hide the features that make you gorgeous.

1. Booze. Let’s be real, if shit’s going down tomorrow, I’m going out in a vodka-soaked blaze of glory.

2. At least one piece of McQueen’s Savage Beauty. Yes I am breaking into The Met and yes I am wearing this gold duck feather coat out.

3. Egoïste. Because I need to see a Louis Vuitton-attired polar bear taking in an Al Gore lecture on global warming before I die. That happened.

5. Oprah. I know this is short notice with the world ending tomorrow and all, but I really think Oprah and I should be together since I’ve recently adopted her as my mother. She’s not really aware of it.

6. Violent Lips. Sometimes a girl needs to look fierce and really this isn’t the time to slack off with boring old jungle red or whatever signature color you use. Give me a hot pink leopard lip and call it a day/year/life.

7. Made in Brazil #3.

8. Angelina Jolie’s Atelier Versace gown from Cannes. I love a good statement-making gown when the skies open up; and this gown will say, “Excuse me, stop what you’re doing. I get it…but I’m in the room.”

9. A pair of Louboutins I lifted from FI‘s Editor-in-Chief Sam Lim. Barring the fact that I’m about six shoe sizes bigger than she is, Sam’s long hours in the line at the Christian Louboutin sample sale should be celebrated. Celebrated with a unbearably painful walk-off.

10. Fashion Indie’s Mixtape Vol. 3. If we’re all still here next week you can get a listen for yourself, but I’ve already got my copy and will be dancing till the world ends.

Speaking of Britney, I forgot to include drugs — last minute shopping …literally!

Knightley is just one of two cover stars, the other being James Thíerrée, a French performer who counts Charlie Chaplin and Eugene O’Neil as antecedents. The current  issue — well, really the only issue since the last Egoiste with a naked Natalia Vodianova on the cover came out 5 years ago — also features a wide range of interviews and collaborations from Roman Polanski, Beth Ditto, Diane von Furstenberg, Yoko Ono and others.

Besides coming out when it damn well feels like it, Egoïste is different from other mags in that all of the ads therein are the brainchild of its kooky editor, Wisniak, who now works from her own bed in her Parisian apartment.

To wit, the ad for Louis Vuitton sounds better than whatever they’re planning with Angelina Jolie:

The Louis Vuitton ad took Wisniak and her deputy, Eleonore Therond, a full year to create. It features a lost polar bear on an adventure with a monogrammed Louis Vuitton trunk. He embarks through the tundra with it; clings to it like a buoy in frigid waters, eventually finds shelter on a boat bound for civilization—and then, trunk in hand, crashes onto the stage of a lecture given by Al Gore on the perils of global warming.

A true rarity in fashion, in publishing and just in the pace of the modern world, Egoïste has become a collector’s item with the December 1977 issue featuring Mick Jagger recently selling on eBay for $1,100. And appropriately, you won’t find Egoïste hanging around on a shelf at Barnes and Noble; the only retailer in America that carries the mag is New York’s Rizzoli Bookstore.

Perhaps one day Keira Knightely’s cover will fetch a similar price tag. The actress and occasional Chanel cyclist may seem an odd choice considering the iconoclastic cover stars before her, but for Wisniak, it’s not about being current or on trend: “It’s about lasting. It’s like a bet to see who will still be interesting in 10 years.”  [Daily Beast]

Carey Mulligan

Starring roles: A Miu Miu, Vionnet and Prada devotee, Carey’s also not afraid to make a bold choice…such as ignoring Anna Wintour‘s advice. Others have died for less, but her gambits more often pay off than not. With one Oscar nomination down — for An Education (2009) – Mulligan’s sure to get another for next year’s The Great Gatsby, playing the ultimate ingénue, Daisy Buchanan.

Elle Fanning

Starring roles: Elle proved such a fave with the Mulleavy sisters, they cast her in a short film for Rodarte. After stealing scenes in the independent Somewhere (2010), Elle’s going for the blockbuster gusto with J.J. Abrams‘s Super 8, out this summer.

Hailee Steinfeld

Starring roles: Along with Fanning, Steinfeld is proving that it’s never too early to be a fashionista by going on a winning streak during awards season…if only on the red carpet. Hailee nabbed an Oscar nom for showing her Grit, but for her next project, she’s going for a softer touch: she’s attached to a retelling of Sleeping Beauty.

Mia Wasikowska

Starring roles: Honestly, I’ve been more inspired by Mia’s stunning editorials as of late than her red carpet style. She first had me with W alongside her Jane Eyre co-star, Michael Fassbender then she channeled another Mia (Farrow) for Blackbook. She’s super talented and naturally beautiful plus with a slew of upcoming roles, she’ll have plenty of time to brush up on her style notes.

Blake Lively

Starring roles: When Karl Lagerfeld handpicks you to be the Chanel Purse Ambassador, you’re officially an icon. Best known for her penchant for Gossip, Blake surprised everyone with a dramatic turn in The Town (2010) and will soon be feeling up Ryan Reynold‘s muscled, latex-clad torso in this summer’s Green Lantern. Some ingenues get all the luck.

Keira Knightley

Starring roles: Another of Karl’s favorites, Keira’s been a red carpet highlight for years — I’m still screaming at her in Vera Wang at the 2006 Oscars.*  Though she was keeping a low profile for a while, Knightley came roaring back in this Chanel Couture stunner at the London premiere of Never Let Me Go. Add to that coup her recent Chanel Coco Mademoiselle short film and the upcoming romantic drama Last Night this May.

Leighton Meester

Starring roles: Though she’s the picture of Upper East Side preppy refinement as Blair Waldorf, Leighton’s personal style falls more in the delightfully quirky category. Along with Carey, Leighton is among the most fun and daring of these youthful beauties. Between gigs on Gossip Girl, Meester will next be seen seducing Dr. House himself in The Oranges out later this year.

Mila Kunis

Starring roles: Black Swan propelled Mila Kunis into a completely different stratosphere, one with awards and critical praise. Mila rose gamely to the challenge of red carpet dressing, peaking with this Alexander McQueen number from the SAG Awards. Next she’ll trade in her toe shoes to shack up with Justin Timberlake before hopping a broom for Oz: The Great and Powerful.

Michelle Williams

Starring roles: Michelle had her best style moment at this year’s Oscars when she took my breath away in this simple Chanel column… although her 2006 canary yellow Vera Wang* still holds a special place in my heart. Once upon a Creek, Michelle Williams was Katie Holmes‘ rival, so it makes poetic sense that while Katie is Jackie O, Michelle will play Marilyn Monroe in next year’s My Week With Marilyn.

Anne Hathaway

Starring roles: Honestly, Hathaway’s days as an ingénue are practically through, but having put in her Princess days, she’s succesfully transitioning to a leading lady. She managed to hold up the weight of the entire Academy Awards telecast this year on her bold, tuxedoed shoulders, so her next challenge Anne will be to claw up the screen as Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises.

*Sidebar: Meanwhile, I forgot how much werq Vera was doing at the Academy Awards that year.

The more I stare at Sasha, the more I see Keira Knightley staring back at me. I didn’t even know those two even looked alike, but maybe it’s something in the eyebrows and the hair. That said, there might be a tad too much retouching going on (note how washed out Sasha’s face seems) but it is still a gorgeous photo. I particularly love the way the teal/aquamarine in her eyes matches the dress.

Keira Knightley stepped out this past Tuesday showing off a fresh new bob. When the actress showed up at the Chanel Ready to Wear show during Paris Fashion Week she received quite the attention concerning the new beauty endeavor!

Is this some kind of practical joke? Last night’s British Independent Film Awards had a red carpet full of unfortunately dressed celebrities…the ones who typically look the best everywhere else! Sorry ladies, the  Boston Tea Party happened in 1773…if you’re seeking your revenge for those high taxes back in the day, this is certainly not the way to do it.

It’s tough for many of us to remeber Keira when she wasn’t always on top of her fashion game, but that time did, in fact, exist. There was a time when tight belly shirts and extreme clashing were all Keira thought about. Thanks to a few years and an awesome stylist Keira has come out near the top end of our fashion radar with great style and intact elegance.
