Lady Gaga winks, hunches and uncovers for an editorial in i-D, styled by none other than Nicola Formichetti and lensed by Mariano Vivanco. The trio continue to generally shut shit down, creating arresting images, buzzworthy collections (Gags is wearing Mugler of course) and colossal dance-pop anthems. Theirs is a partnership that harkens back to the days of Yves Saint Laurent and Iman, or Andy Warhol and Edie Sedgwick or Keith Haring and Grace Jones: artist and muse becoming inseparable in the public conscious and almost interchangeable in their roles. For Mariano, Nicola and Stephanie Germanotta, the whole is greater than sum of its parts.

Début is the kind of shop where some jewelry hangs on hangers. Designers are making such radically new creations that owner Lisa Weiss must often come up with creative ways to display them. Those displays are ever changing because the average length of time she carries one designer is about three seasons. In order to maintain her store’s philosophy, she cannot get too loyal to one designer. She must live by the essence of if you love it, let it go… What comes back is the success the designers see upon graduating from Début, knowing where they kicked it all off.

Tucked away on the north end of Mulberry Street, just above Houston, lives a petite boutique lined with the freshest names in design. Début is sparsely arranged to feel like a gallery, built to give each designer a proper artist’s display. Storeowner Lisa Weiss frequently hears from new customers, I’ve passed by it so many times and just never came in! I wasn’t entirely sure it was a store. Let her hear that no more. This is the ugliest shit I’ve ever seen. If having to live with Keith Haring’s art wasn’t terrible enough, Nicholas Kirkwood went and designed this collection. The 12 styles are set to launch in February. OH GOODY.

A collection of six exclusive t-shirts featuring graphics by Keith Haring will be for sale this week at Zara. Shirts are $29.90 and feature bright colors such as green, red and yellow, as well as neutral tones like white, black or grey mixed with vibrant graphics. One motif not to be missed is the self-portrait of Keith Haring himself, homage to his works and figure.

I did my heart a major disservice by setting foot inside Opening Ceremony this past weekend, my sole intentions to browse. Oh, how heartbroken I was to see those college-budget killing pieces from Opening Ceremony’s Fall 2009 collection hanging ever so tauntingly on the shelves.
