Catch the Season Finales of “Mad Fashion” & “Fashion Hunters” Tonight on Bravo

Yesterday afternoon, I got to meet the casts of Bravo‘s stylish new television shows Mad Fashion and Fashion Hunters. Not only was there a roundtable discussion about their experiences on the shows, I got to watch the season finales, airing tonight at 10 and 10:30 p.m. Want a sneak peak at the final episodes this season? Mad Fashion Finale Tuesday, 12/6 @ 10/9c: Chris ends the season with one of his biggest projects yet, designing an outfit for the Met Ball. Working with swimsuit model Chrissy Teigen to create a Black Swan-inspired look, March doesn’t know whether he should be more worried about Chrissy’s reaction to the outfit or her boyfriend’s, John Legend. Looking to strike that perfect balance between sexy, unique and fashionable, Chris thinks he’s pleased everyone, until he receives a late-night call that might force him back into the office for an early-morning alternation. With mere hours until the event, will Chrissy be pleased with her work of art or will Chris have wasted his chance at creating a fashion masterpiece?

Fashion Hunters Finale Pt. 1, Tuesday 12/6 @ 10:30/9:30c: Ambria and Karina are in for a big treat when they get to visit the closet of New York Housewife Kelly Bensimon. As if the wall of designer hand bags isn’t enough, Ambria nearly faints when she sees the size of Kelly’s closet. While Ambria may be slightly over-excited about the potential garments Kelly is going to give them, Karina has learned to tone down her excitement when it comes to consigning. She has run into some problems in the past with over-valuing items that she loves, so this week, when a unique Eric de Kolb clutch comes through the doors, she is sure to be extra cautious.

For some — though not for many *ahem* — the Hamptons is the go-to vacation spot outside of the city, a respite from the hustle and blow of city life. But for the Real Housewives of New York, it’s just another day at the office.

“Before the night was over, Ramona Singer, their blonde frenemy, had breezed through each event with a glass of pinot grigio in hand.” Hopefully it was her own eponymous brand of pinot flowing through an IV drip hidden in each glass. But that’s the Ramona Singer you want when you invite her to an event. Playboy model and Real Housewives cast member Kelly Bensimon had a big role in the Housewives franchise this season, playing the role of the woman who went postal on “Scary Island.” We’ve all seen the episodes, where Ramona, Bethenny and Sonia finally decide to leave Kelly alone after her so called “mental breakdown.” Call it acting, television editing or made-for-tv drama, the episode was the second best moment in Real Housewives history, with the first being the New Jersey girls going mafia on each other.

After the now famous “mental breakdown” episode aired, Kelly used the attention from media and fans to promote anti-bullying and safe sex and HIV/AIDS prevention. Whatever you think of the stunning brunette Glamazon, one thing is for sure, she has a heart of gold. Kelly opens up in the August issue of Harper's Bazaar about the series, her experience on “Scary Island” and her charity work.

In the photo taken by Danielle Levitt, Kelly wears an Emilio Pucci dress and Manolo Blahnik shoes and makes a statement with boxing gloves, to tell others who want to pick on her to back off. On moving forward: “I’m 42, and I have this new life,” she says. “Yes, I’m more mass market. And that’s okay. It’s my job.…I’ve worked so hard. It wasn’t always lollipops and unicorns.” “I tell my girls, ‘Your mom gets paid to engage in inappropriate behavior.’ It’s an amazing opportunity for them to see that being mean is not okay. I tell them, ‘If you’re in a situation like this, walk out. Don’t come back with jelly beans.’”

Andy Cohen on Kelly Bensimon’s alleged breakdown: “I think it was deeply disturbing. It seemed like she had a break of some kind, but I can’t say exactly what it was.” “She was not forced to go to Saint John by Bravo or the producers,” he says. “That’s untrue.”

What Recession? Condé Nast Helps Us Forget.

A friend of mine and I were having a conversation the other day about the economic situation (see, I’m not so vapid after all!). I was making a point that here in New York we’re largely sheltered from the issues affecting the rest of the world. “We don’t live in reality, we live in Manhattan,” I said. The more I thought about it, the more it seemed like a truism: does a falling economy make a sound if no one’s there to hear it? Reflecting on this week’s set of events, I realized there was a huge disparity between the daily headlines and the daily life in New York’s media microcosm.

Just last week there were reports that receptionists at Condé Nast were being given the boot and editors would have to (gasp!) answer their own phones. Amid this news, it came as quite a surprise that the same company spared no expense to throw the Condé Nast Traveler Hot List Party at chic Madison Avenue dining spot, Pranna.

Though I had no idea what to expect as I exited the cab on the side of 28^th street, the step-and-repeat with an actual red carpet set up outside immediately set the tone for the rest of the evening. I waited for Kelly Bensimon of The Real Housewives of New York to finish up on the carpet before my turn came around. After posing for photos, I was whisked inside where cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, and fabulousness awaited.

The dimly lit restaurant exploded with light every few seconds as camera flashbulbs went off inside, illuminating whichever startlet or social had just arrived. After securing a drink downstairs and scoping out the provenance of the hors d’oeuvres, we made our way to the VIP area on the second floor.

This cordoned off section seemed to be the location of a Real Housewives reunion as we first bumped into Alex McCord with husband Simon Van Campen before noticing Jill Zarin and her auburn hair floating around. Nestled in the back with friends was Lydia Hearst wearing a green art-deco frock while two seats away was the stunning Katrina Bowden who’s taken advantage of her role on 30 Rock to become a staple on the event scene.

As if on a mission to disprove the recession, the next night Lucky Magazine—another Condé Nast title—threw a party with designers/socialites Charlotte Ronson and Shoshanna Lonstein Gruss to celebrate their swimwear collaboration.

We might have used one of Ronson and Gruss’s bathing suits to swim through all the free-flowing champagne coming from the open bar at Above Allen in the Thompson LES but alas they were not on display. No, this event was a social and celebratory one with mother Ann Dexter-Jones coming to support her daughter. Lindsay Price, most recently of Lipstick Jungle, made an appearance as did Real Housewife Jill Zarin once again. For some reason that woman looks like she’ll clock you if you look at her the wrong way.

As we looked out the floor-to-ceiling windows upon a glittering downtown cityscape, champagne and camera flashes abounding behind us, it dawned on me: if you can live in a fantasy, why not? We all come to New York to chase a dream so why not wrap yourself in it like a plush cashmere blanket? Grab a class of champagne, barbeque shrimp puff and smile for the cameras.
