The major fashion titles were generally up in advertising from last year with W posting the greatest  gain at 25%  or 41 pages — though at a total of 204 pages, it is still only fifth in the rankings. InStyle had its biggest ad count since stomping onto the newsstand 18 years ago with 344 pages — a 13 % (39 pages) increase — bringing it in at number 2. And this is how the rest of the list shakes out:

1. Vogue — 442.74 pages, up 3.7%

2. InStyle — 344 pages, up 13% (39 pages)

3. Elle — 319 pages, up 2% (6 psges)

4. Harper’s Bazaar — 271 pages, up 16% (37 pages)

5. W — 204 pages, up 25% (41 pages)

Meanwhile, what really matters in this story is that the March issue of Vogue will feature one Ms. Adele Laurie Blue Adkins, which — just saying — will be a marked improvement from the current Grammy gal gracing the February issue.

I don’t want to say that I was happy when I heard the news of  the J.Lo-Marc Anthony split…though a smile might have crept across my lips for a brief second. Call me crazy, but Anthony, my least favorite J.L0 partnering (I’m still holding out hopes for a Jennifer Lopez-Puff Daddy-Diddy-Diddy Dirty Money-Sean Combs reconciliation) was just holding the diva back. This latest development, however, will no doubt further fuel her recent comeback because nothing engenders sympathy — and publicity — like a high-profile divorce.

Kohl’s on the other hand, isn’t taking  it so well.

“The Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony brands have always been positioned as two separate, distinctive collections that offer high-quality contemporary style for men and women,” half-heartedly claims  a spokeswoman for Kohl’s, “and we look forward to a successful September launch.”

Rick Darling, the president of the licensing company behind the Lopez-Anthony line, also insists on the separate but equal plan:

“We have two separate agreements with Jennifer and Marc and always intended to have separate lines. [Their split] doesn’t impact the agreements in any way.”

Poor kids. Now Kohl’s will have to spend separate holidays and weekends with J.Lo and Marc…and inevitably they’ll have to choose between the two of them. And who do you think they’re going to side with? The poor straight man’s Ricky Martin or the rich gay man’s Eva Mendes? [WWD]

“She lives fashion. She sings about and says it’s the most fun thing about getting ready for Idol. Her eyes light up when you ask her what kind of shoes she’s wearing.” So says Tommy Hilfiger, who’s working with La Lopez on her newest line for Kohl’s.

If you remember, in the heady days of Bennifer when Jenny purported she was from the block, she started JLO and its allegedly higher end line, Sweetface. It made sense, she was a bona fide fashion icon, scoring more hits on the red carpet than at the box office.

That dress made Jennifer Lopez’s career — and coincidentally revived Versace which was struggling under Donatella Versace after the death of her brother Gianni three years earlier in 1997 — and propelled her to fashion fame (and infamy).

So it made sense for her of all people to start a fashion line, but she apparently “didn’t understand the business well enough.” Now with a new Hilfiger on board — Andy, Tommy’s younger brother, was J.Lo’s JLO partner — the old girl’s ready to give it another go.

Sure, Kohl’s isn’t a runway in Milan or a luxurious presentation on the French Riviera, but J. Lo’s going to be getting that J. Simps money.* Coupled with her cushy gig on American Idol, a hit dance song (the gays will take anything) and DVD sales from Selena, La Lopez has mounted a comeback!

And I couldn’t be happier.

There are so few real stars left since reality TV and the Internet has ruined fame for everyone (p.s. follow me on Twitter @LesFabian). Sure, she’s not the most talented singer, or actress, or dancer, or fashion designer, but hey — she’s the best at pretending to do all of them. And that’s called star power, kids.

Cheslea Clinton's wedding dress caused more hoopla than this year's Oscars.

There has not been this much talk about a dress since J Lo wore that green, Versace scarf number. In case you have been under a rock, I am referring to Chelsea Clinton’s Vera Wang number. The cover of today’s Women’s Wear Daily declares Chelsea’s Moment, but in truth, it is Vera Wang’s. Miss Wang, known mostly for her wedding collections could not have asked for a better PR moment than the Clinton wedding. Her ready-to-wear collections are much more modern and edgy than her frothy wedding gowns. Though Vera receives a good amount of attention and editorial for her RTW, her recent collaboration with Kohl’s tells another story, namely she needed a cash injection for her company. No one sets out to do a down market collection…I don’t care what you say. The current phenomenon of major design houses doing capsule collections for a bargain basement stores is nothing that Coco Chanel or Yves Saint Laurent would ever sign on for. You can talk high-low dressing all you want….it would just not happen. And if someone tries to say that Coco would have loved to…well…OK then…prove it.

At 16, a young LC graced TVs around America on one of the highest rated shows on cable, ‘Laguna Beach.’ She grew up in the public eye, and continued to have reality success with ‘The Hills.’ After 4 successful dramatic seasons, Lauren decided to depart from TV to become an entrepreneur. Alex Kazemi: What’s your favorite collection/designer from this Spring/Summer 2010?

Lauren Conrad: I am really loving Peter Som, Phillip Lim, Nanette Lapore and Rebecca Taylor right now.

Kazemi: What was your experience like at Peoples Revolution? Would you ever work as a PR girl again?

Lauren: It was great, all my intern experiences have been ones I have learned from.

Kazemi: What inspired you while designing your “LC Lauren Conrad” collection for Kohl’s?

Lauren: I get inspired from things around me. Films, nature, flowers. There are a lot of bow, ruffles and flowers in my Kohls spring collection.

Kazemi: Do you have any summer style tips for readers?

Lauren: : A great maxi dress is perfect for summer as it takes you from day to night. Also the boyfriend blazer, a must over summer dresses and jeans and a camisole.

Kazemi: In the near future, could we see a return to reality TV? Has it been nice without the cameras?

Lauren: I never say never

Kazemi: What’s it like being a role model for so many teenage girls around the world?

Lauren: Nerve racking, I just hope that people see that I work hard for things that I want and that I show them they should all try to go after what they believe in.

Kazemi: What’s on your summer iPod playlist?

Lauren: Disney music LOL, Jonas Brothers, Taylor Swift, 80′s and the Glee soundtrack.

Kazemi: Your now best selling novels read almost like a biography, was that intentional?

Lauren: No, I just figure it is easiest as a new author to write what you know.

Kazemi: What does your diet consist of? What do you do to keep in shape?

Lauren: I try to eat clean and healthy. Not a lot of white carbs and sugar but I am never too strict.

Kazemi: Do you think your life has been less dramatic since The Hills?

Lauren: Yes or at least the drama isn’t seen by most of America:)

Kazemi: What can we see in the future for Lauren Conrad in 2010?

Lauren: I will continue to design my line for Kohls and I have 2 new books coming out in October so I am really excited.

The line will be available in October and will consist apparel at first, but may expand to include shoes, jewelry, handbags, intimates and sleepwear. The prices will range from $20 to $60.

Rocker Avril Lavigne has released her line of clothing titled “Abbey Dawn”. The line will debut at select Kohl’s stores. I think it’s time celebrities stop designing clothing for no reason at all; the results are often quite frightening. Avril claims her line embodies “rock glam”. She says the clothing is “fun, colorful, young and edgy”. To be honest, I don’t see anything fun about the line. The line features T-shirts, pants, hoodies, and tank tops, all of which fail to bring Avril’s claim of “rock glam” to the table. Someone really needs to tell the celebrities to stop impersonating talented designers; they never fool us.
