The heat mercilessly gets trapped within the concrete jungle, making it difficult to do much else but sit around in the air conditioning. But not too fear because there are ways of staying cool during the summer months just by getting dressed in the morning. We got to chat with expert wardrobe stylist Chrissy Volk about the best breathable fabrics and fabric blends to keep you cool during the summer. Check out her recommendations and our clothing picks after the jump.

Denim - Denim can be hot and heavy, especially when wearing a longer pair. Cotton jeans are the best for breathability, but pairs with stretch will move with your body. Chrissy suggests either a 98% cotton/2% lycra or 96 % cotton/4% Lycra combination. The below pairs from Ksubi, AllSaints are great options.
<a

Chrissy suggests Pima and Supima cotton and blends with polyester so clothing retains its shape, even through inevitable summer sweating. Rayon is another great fabric to keep in mind as it drapes well and keeps its shape when wet. The tops below from <a

But for that extra chill factor, Chrissy suggests cotton for every day, natural silk for more formal occasions and spandex blends for a body-conscious look. You won’t go naked with the below from <a

Ksubi recently released images of their 2010 eyewear collection, and I think you’ll agree that it is definitely a bright Ksubi future ahead of us. The collection airs on the hard, bold and statement making side, so you’ll want to get your hands/eyes on a pair if you’re looking for some conversation shades. The ladies can look forward to some Chanel-esque, tinted circular sunglasses and stain-glass frames while guys can get ready for some classic tortoise shell glasses and some bold or wired aviators.

Check out more from Ksubi Today has been a great day of blogging for me so far. I have been lucky enough to get to write about some of my favorite designers, and Ksubi is just another to add to the list. The latest Spring 2009 Collection is getting ready to hit stores, and I am very excited as usual. Correct me if I’m wrong but it has a bit of that Matthew Williamson vibe to it? Love the collection, hoping that I can get some cash in my pocket to buy a couple pieces.
<p

The store’s interior, dominated by black brushed metal and glass, is a modern update to the boutique’s antiquated facade. On the main floor, luxury designers Alexander Herchcovitch, Maison Martin Margiela and Rick Owens will be paired with artistic, avant-garde brands. A steel and marble staircase leads underground to the second floor, where labels like OAK, Current/Elliot and Acne can be found.

This addition to the already well-styled website, <a

A boutique that carries Herchcovitch, Margiela and Owens in the same space almost makes me wish I was Canadian, almost.

Collab-Ho: Cobrasnake and Ksubi

cobrasnake

ksubi

mark hunter

The folks over at Happy People Don’t Complain recently got a chance to sit down with Gareth Moody. The former Ksubi designer started Chronicles of Never back 2007, and the Australian brand has been taking off ever since. I love the company so I was obviously excited to read the interview. Here’s a little snipet of the conversation.

HPDC: Tell us something about your background and your role at CON?
GARETH MOODY: I was born in Sydney Australia, I also happen to currently live in my place of birth. Actually have not studied beyond my years at school, I decided to tackle things in a trial and error type arrangement, to date it seems to be working. My role atCHRØNICLESØFNEVER, well I’m the founder, director and designer, so I suppose I’m multi-tasking at present.

HPDC: How do you create your designs?
GARETH MOODY: I’m more of a hands on character, I’m also a little old fashioned, I illustrate everything by hand, pencil to paper. I prefer this method of design.

Jeremy Scott debuted his Jeremy Loves Ksubi line in Paris last week, and the prints are nothing short of bold. For those of you readers new to the Jeremy Loves Ksubi collection, more or less all it is, is that Jeremy Scott takes Ksubi designs and then prints his own pattern and such onto them. I think it’s a cool collaboration, and a simple way to bring more products from both designers. What do you think indies, should more designers do easy, cool collaborations? Or are collaborations done?

Justin was recently snapped by the paparazzi in Italy with his soon to be wife (possibly?) Jessica Biel. I doubt he knocked the socks off any of the fashion thirty Italians with his Tennessee Tuxedo shorts. Shouldn’t the self proclaimed “William Rast” know that in a world of cropped pants and knee flashing, that his shorts are too long. The fashion world is built around killing bad trends, so why couldn’t JT get this right? Well lucky for you indies I am here to make a couple suggestions on rocking denim shorts, so next time you go to Italy for a quick vaca (yeah right) you’ll “bring the sexy back” rather than scare it away.

Try these Fremont shorts from Oak. They fit a bit slimmer and flash a some knee. The more knee the less ghetto!

These cool double waisted dark denim shorts from Ksubi allow a comfortable slouching look without the shorts being too long. They are damn stylish too.

And just because Fall is closing in doesn’t mean shorts are dead. Throw some leggings on, and you are good for another couple months. Sorry Justin but those Wrangler specials with that fake hole in the front just aren’t doing it for me.
<p
