Pulled this way and that for a photoshoot by her overbearing manager, a gossipy makeup artist, a lascivious photographer and a fabulously turbaned stylist, Margaux finally loses her composure and throws both caution and a Dior handbag  to the wind. Best line, courtesy of that queen cosmetician:

“You know what this reminds me of, Demy? Remember? The Academy Awards! Oh my gosh, Margaux, you won’t believe this. I went in to put the eyeliner on Ms. You-Know-Who. Her glass eye pops out onto the makeup table. I’m totally serious. Rolls around in the dust, she picks it up, wets it in her mouth, pops it back in. Goes on to win the award. Doesn’t even hold a candle to You-Know-Who at the Emmys.”

These Marion Cotillard advertisements for Lady Dior (above – old, I know!) are here to stay but models and traditional advertising are gone. Fall 2009′s seasonal ads have been replaced with “star power” that is supposed to “give more meaning” and will more successfully “represent the values of a company”. That’s Dior CEO Sidney Toledano speaking, and I’m not trying to pick a fight, but Dior ads featuring models will certainly be missed.

Academy Award-winning actress Marion Cotillard has been named as the spokesmodel for the newest collection of Lady Dior Handbags.

The Alfred-Hitchcock-inspired short film features the French actress in the middle of a police investigation that leads her through Paris’s winding streets to the Eiffel Tower.

Check out this preview, before the full film premieres on May 20.

Marion Cotillard stars in the new campaign for Lady Dior handbags. The imagary of the ad is described in WWD;

“Perched on top of the Eiffel Tower, its intricate metalwork echoing the canework pattern on the iconic tote, Cotillard posed for photographer Peter Lindbergh wearing an enigmatic expression — and a sexy black number by John Galliano from the spring collection.”

The spots are slated to break at month’s end in France and the U.K. and are the first in a four-part series, with Paris being only the first city and chapter. Further details about her next adventure, and what precious cargo she’s carrying, are to be revealed on a forthcoming Web site: LadyDior.com, which is set to go live in mid-November. The campaign will run twice a year.

Marion Cotillard, a French actress who made history by becoming the first to win an Academy Award for the French cinema, as Edith Piaf in La Vie En Rose, is the new face of Lady Dior. Look out for the first campaign image featuring Cotillard later this year. Among other famous women who have carried the Lady Dior in advertising are Monica Bellucci, Diane Kruger and Carla Bruni, now the First Lady of France.
