The gays don’t really demonstrate against Catholicism so much as, you know, live, thus flying in the face of people like Uncle Fester from the Addams Family Cardinal George who see the mere existence of homoexuality as an affront to their very beliefs. So, yeah, some gay abominations death-dropping to Gaga and Beyoncé in the streets could easily turn into a cross-burning, horse-riding, good ole-fashioned lynching.

But with a twist.

Imagine, if you will, the GayGayGay: instead of burning crosses, they’d probably just burn Paris in a series of balls where they vogue the shame out of some priests, and eschewing those staid white robes, they’d instead opt for a bold print from the spring 2012 runway. Demonstrations would be DJ’d by Samantha Ronson, there’d be a disco ball somewhere/everywhere. Maybe Cardy George is onto something…pardon me while I put in a call to the Velvet Mafia. What kind of music is the soundtrack to your work?

Alan: We listen to everything, we listen to classical music, we listen to jazz, we listen to rock. When we’re designing we listen to a lot of instrumental stuff cause we kind of consiously say that jazz and classical music are really interesting because it’s behind everything. But we love music. We DJ all the time. Almost every of our collections have been inspired by a musician or someone in music we really love, but we play Iggy Pop to Vivaldi to Miles Davis to Richard Hell.

Timo: To newer stuff.

Alan: Like Lady Gaga. Hey, hey.

What’s with the empty picture frames?

Timo: Sometimes the frame is more special.

Alan: We’ve been doing this since we started our company, walls with empty frames.

Timo: Not even necessarily antique, some are new, or [from] different periods like Art Deco or Regency or gold—gilt.

What fashion or literary books are you reading right now?

Timo: Just Kids by Patti Smith, Beautiful Fall, The Fountainhead—This is my fourth time, and I’m just flying through it. It’s an eight hundred page book, but I’m reading it like it’s a little pamphlet.

Alan: I’m still reading Life by Keith Richards. It’s crazy, that guy had sex with so many women, and has a lot of kids flying around. But he has a really interesting outlook on life; he’s not just some washed up rock ‘n’ roll star.

The Lady made her solo directorial debut  to chronicle what she describes as the “worst day” of her life. I’m assuming it has to do with some sort of attempt at self-mutilation/destruction, as a “next season Calvin Klein“-wearing Gaga is wheeled into a clinic by similarly-attired nurses. Seems that after her ballet instructor told her to hang up her pointe shoes, the Lady went all Black Swan in her apartment — weeping, screaming, breaking glasses, stripping down in a tub and dying her hair blue: a perfectly rational reaction.

Following her hospital stint, Gaga is determined to be a star now that she “has nothing to lose.”  She slips into Madonna‘s discarded Desperately Seeking Susan skin to return to her dance school to show them what-for — and in a stiletto no less. A Fame-like dance number ensues with cars exploding all over the place as the song violently careens into its thrilling conclusion — accompanied by a high-speed, high-fashion montage. It’s an orgy of 80s nostalgia and over-the-top opulence and gamely displays Lady Gaga’s talents as a director, actress and pyromaniac.  Strap on your Mugler tutus and get ready to pirouette into the secret history of Lady Gaga.

Adele is up for the biggest prizes of the night, Album (21), Record and Song of the Year (“Rolling in the Deep”) — I mean, the RIAA might as well just start engraving her name on those golden gramophones now and call it a day. Kanye’s masterwork, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy was somehow snubbed for an Album of the Year nod (god save the assistant who had to deal with that fallout), though Ye will go against himself in the Rap Album of the Year category — Watch the Throne, his collaboration with Jay-Z and Fantasy are both nominated.

Rihanna‘s Loud (no comment), Lady Gaga‘s Born This Way, Foo Fighters‘ Wasting Light, and Bruno Mars‘ Doo Wop & Hooligans are also up for Album of the Year. Joining Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep” and Kanye’s “All of the Lights” (both highly deserving) in the Record of the Year category are Bon Iver‘s “Holocene,” Bruno Mars’ ”Grenade,” Mumford & Sons‘ ”The Cave,” and Katy Perry manages to sneak her way in yet again with “Firework.”

Shockingly absent from this year’s mutual admiration society is Grammy staple, Beyoncé. 4, in my opinion her best solo effort to date, received only one nomination for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for “Party” — not the video version, but the good one with André 3000. Of course, Queen Bey has 16 Grammys already and she’ll probably be busy giving birth to her alleged baby come Grammy night anyway.  Her chief rival for diva supremacy, one Lady Gaga, only came out with three nods this year, and not even one for music video (if not for “Born This Way,” at least “Judas,” kids).  Meanwhile, late chanteuse and 5-time winner Amy Winehouse garnered a posthumous nomination for her duet with Tony Bennett, “Body and Soul.”

The last category anyone could possibly care about is that combination gift/curse, Best New Artist. Nicki  Minaj is the frontrunner based simply on popularity and record sales, and is the only female solo artist nominated this year. She will face off against Bon Iver, The Band Perry, J. Cole, and Skrillex.

Lagerfeld will provide illustrations and commentary for the special issue, which kicks off the daily’s coverage of New York, London, Milan and Paris Fashion Week. “I love daily papers and it’s fun to be part of one of them just for the day. Metro is on a worldwide scale and it’s even more fun,” the Kasiser unconvincingly claims.

The newspaper is also running a Look Book contest, giving readers a chance to win — in addition to a trip to Paris to be Uncle Karl’s editorial assitant — a few pieces from the designer’s collections. As if the prospect of being yelled at by Karl Lagerfeld about the qaulity of his coffee and/or your copy wasn’t impetus enough, imagine getting some free Chanel and/or Fendi in the process? [WWD]

The workshop takes over the entire 5500 sq. ft. men’s floor and turns it into 8 stations: Candy Shop, Toy Shop, Closet (for apparel and accessories), Library (for books, CDs, media, and paper goods), Gallery (for collectibles and specialty items), Jewelry, Boudoir (for candles and cosmetics), and Holiday.  Our favorite pieces included a tiny mp3 player that had Gaga songs pre loaded, a baby sized motorcycle leather jacket, and crazy unique sets of elaborately accessorized press on nails.

Of course, it wouldn’t be Christmas without a line of shoppers on East 60th St, though some were more determined than others. “We left at 4:45 a.m. thinking the line would be huge,” one Bostonian monster told WWD. Considering the workshop didn’t officially open for business until 11:59 pm, mayhaps they jumped the love-glue-gunnin’ a bit.

Mother Monster was in the Christmas spirit, however, and shined the light of her benevolence on her little monsters, without whom none of this would be relevant: “Yes I have fun fashion ideas and have a knack for trinkets, but the truth is if the love of the fans didn’t mean something powerful from a cultural standpoint, coming to Barneys to buy Gaga presents wouldn’t mean anything.…They wanted to come here for an experience that they could enjoy together.”

Gaga’s Workshop will host some 170 items for sale, such as a $95 snow globe, a $68 handmade chocolate skull or a $65 claw Christmas stocking in which to stuff them. A new item will be revealed everyday from now until the Workshop’s launch during the “12 Days of Gaga” on the Gaga’s Workshop microsite; today’s featured gift, for instance, is a Gaga face cookie circa her “Telephone” heyday.

Hidden around the city and barneys.com are stickers bearing special codes one can scan or type into the microsite to unlock more info about the Workshop, while Willy Wonka-esque Golden Tickets will be given away to 30 lucky Monsters — allowing them a trip to New York and invitations to the opening of this modern day Chocolate Factory. Working with Barneys creative director Dennis Freedman, Formichetti and installation artists Eli Sudbrack and Christophe Hamaide Pierson of Assume Vivid Astro Focus are turning Barneys into a winter wonderland with eight imaginative stations. “We have a candy shop, which is a sculptural piece that holds the candy; the boudoir, this giant wig that will host all the makeup, fake nails and lipsticks; the spider with Gaga’s face with all the fake jewelry and stuff, and this giant pop-up book for all the books Gaga chose,” Formichetti explained to WWD.

Other features include a three-dimensional train for stuffed animals and a giant topiary spelling out Gag’s name, in lieu of a Christmas tree. And flanking the 60th Street entrance will be a giant Gaga monster, dramatic cat-eye and all, created by Sudbrack. Even the famous Barneys windows will undergo a truly Gaga transformation, with four different themes inspired by the Lady’s songs, such as one display completely rendered in “Hair.”

Formichetti also had an invaluable source in the grandmother of all Monsters, Mrs. Cynthia Germanotta. “She knew Gaga’s favorite chocolates or her favorite books when she was little.” Formichetti said. “We really wanted this experience to be like going through her memories, in a very surreal way. For that, I needed the help of Mrs. Germanotta.”

Just last week, mom and Stef Germanotta launched the Born This Way Foundation – to which 25% of all sales from the Workshop will go — to further empower youth and promote equality through antibullying, self-confidence, mentoring and career development programs.

Gaga’s Workshop opens November 21 at 11:59 p.m. and will stay open throughout the night and into the next day, finally closing on January 2. However, if you can’t make it into New York, or if you’d rather avoid the life-sapping holiday shopping crowd, a significant chunk of items will also be available for purchase online so you can still buy yourself some subversive Christmas cheer. ……And the perfume is called: MONSTER! Perfect, no? Much like Lady Gaga in general, the perfume’s title is spot on. What else could her Little Monsters possibly douse them(our)selves with? That girl is monster, m-m-m-monster. And now we can wear it.

“I wanted to extract sort of the feeling and sense of blood and semen from molecular structures, so that’s where [the rumours] came from, and that is in the perfume but it doesn’t smell like that,” explains Lady Gaga. Now, may we all smell like a Government Hooker.
