“Carine Roitfed. She has such great style.  I would love to raid her closet, for her shoes. We have the same size shoe and we used to share shoes.” I ask her if there are any shoes in particular she would snatch. “All of them.” Well-played, Lara Stone. Well-played.

Stone, the official fashion ambassador for Mercedes-Benz, is whisked away in a tornado of Prager’s creation as part of the automaker’s “Icons of Style” campaign, featuring the SL Roadster. Inspired by The Wizard of Oz, Mary Poppins, Vertigo and a bit of the Brothers Grimm, Prager tells a modern day fairytale with Stone as the beautiful blonde “with dark, suspicious undertones,” to borrow the photographer’s words. To achieve the “I don’t think we’re in Kansas anymore” vibe, the super was strapped into a harness and flown around the air — a process she actually enjoyed.

“My favorite part of working with Alex was all of her crazy ideas!” Stone says. “Hanging in a harness was so much fun and a great change from just standing around [posing].” Of course, at this point in her career, Lara Stone is no stranger to uncomfortable situations. When I ask her what was one of her favorite shoots, she immediately mentions her latest campaign for Calvin Klein, shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott.

“The rocks were so sharp! I love that campaign, all those bright, different color jeans, but laying on the rocks was very uncomfortable,” she says with a laugh. “They were sharp and it was hot with big waves crashing over us. Very scary! When I saw the final shots though, it was totally worth it. I always love working with them [Mert and Marcus].”

Wondering what, if any, of her plans were outside of modeling, Lara responds simply, “I just got a puppy and I want to hang out with him. His name is Bert and he’s a boarder terrier.” I’ve never been much for dogs, though lately I’ve been contemplating getting one, so I took this opportunity to do a little research. “What size is he?” I ask. “Oh, you know…dog-sized.” She then  attempts to approximate Bert with her  arms, and he seems a little big for my taste.

“We have sort of an office dog,” I venture. In truth, we have like five office dogs —  one of them’s wandering around now as I write this. But I single out the pug, who makes the most regular appearances in the FashionIndie office. “Oh, they’re so cute!” she exclaims and we discuss the general cuteness of the tiny little monsters and their giant bug eyes. Then I mention that his name is Napoleon. “Does he have the complex?” she asks, not missing a beat.

Meanwhile, I wish I  had brought along a rimshot if I had known Lara Stone would be serving shtick.

- Heather Locklear was rushed to the hospital Thursday afternoon, allegedly for a mix of booze and prescription pills, but she seems to be doing fine and is said to be in “no danger.” [E!]

- Lil Wayne launched a T-shirt line called Trukfit, which is short for “The Reason You Kill For It.” When asked to describe the name in two words, Weezy responded: “‘Un…Usual,’ he said with a grin that broke into a croaky laugh. ‘That’s one word.’” [WWD]

Sorrenti is actually the first Italian to photograph the Pirelli Calendar, whose past lensmen have included Herb Ritts (1994, 1999), Richard Avedon (1995, 1997), Bruce Weber (1998, 2003), Annie Leibovitz (2000), Mario Testino (2001), Peter Lindbergh (1996, 2002), Patrick Demarchelier (2005, 2008), Mert and Marcus (2006), Inez and Vinoodh (2007), Terry Richardson (2010) and last year, Karl Lagerfeld.

For the shoot in Corsica, Sorrenti chose mostly women with whom he had previously worked, including supermodel among supermodels Kate Moss, whom the photographer has known for some 20 years — the two worked together on the iconic Calvin Klein “Obsession” campaign when Sorrenti was just 21 and Moss was practically still in diapers. In the “Making of ” short film that preceded a Q&A with Sorrenti, he remarked that he “couldn’t do this without her.”

This elegance will be captured by Mario Testino in a 72-page “fashion extravaganza” — my favorite kind of extravaganza behind the eleganza variety, of course — for the issue themed “heroes.”

Vogue Paris be damned — though it kind of already is — but I love that Carine is doing her own thing. Sister do it for yourself.

I guess everyone loves big boobs and a gap tooth — I can at least get on board with one of those things.

Naked Glamour is designed to make women look sexier than they do naked, featuring “luxurious fabrics with a hint of shine, subtly contrasted by feminine matte trims” and four bra styles: “Contour with Lace Trim,” “Convertible Lace Plunge,” “Push Up” and the imaginatively-titled “Add a Size.”

Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott shot Swanepoel in London on the Thames along with Ford favorite and front-runner for most beautiful boy in all the world – Jon Kortajarena.

Mert and Marcus, no strangers to working with Ford, recently shot his fall beauty campaign with one Ms. Lara Stone. The designer, however, has opted to keep his hands — and his lingering stare — to himself for these series of images. [WWD]

The lone female in a sea of blue balls, Smurfette models, commercial-smiles and generally “gives” in Marc Jacobs, Lanvin, Dolce & Gabbana and Louis Vuitton.

She looks great and all, but frankly, I’m awaiting that true diva of the silver screen, Miss Piggy.

As an editor at Vogue Paris – hilarious timing by the way —  in this fall’s The Muppets, La Piggy is giving Carine/Emmanuelle a serious run for their money.

Of course, the only thing green Miss Piggy covets is her  longtime lilypad lover — and friend of Gaga – Kermit D. Frog. [Harper's Bazaar, MTV]

Photographed by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, the ads could easily have been ripped out of a 70s fashion mag, which is precisely the aesthetic Ford was going for with his collection. Informed and heavily inspired by the 70s and Studio 54, Stone looks like a latter day Jerry Hall so temptingly close to Ford’s bearded bravado.

Ford explained his propensity for placing himself in his ads to WWD:

“I’m not in the ads because I’m vain. A lot of people still don’t know who I am, and the product sells better with me in the ads. The old designers — Yves [Saint Laurent], Giorgio [Armani] and Ralph [Lauren] — occasionally used to do it.”

Yves, however, probably wouldn’t approve.

Cavalli opens the book by writing:  “I am not a real designer… I am a transformer who takes even poor quality fabrics and uses printing and colors to make them glamorous and desirable.” He also goes into brief detail about how he started printing tee shirts as a child in Italy and his first real success when he was introduced to Grace Mirabella, the former editor of American Vogue.

The book starts out with photos of the designer from back in the day as he rubbed elbows with the chicest and most beautiful women of the time.

Beautiful images via famed photographers Mert & Marcus help put the string the book along. Beauties such as Gisele, Kate Moss, Jennifer Lopez, Lara Stone, Heidi Klum & Cindy Crawford pose in Cavalli’s beautiful creations throughout the book.

The book is also full of commentary and praise on the Cavalli legacy by all stars: Bianca Jagger, Beyonce,  Anna Della Russo, Stefano Tonchi, & Glenda Bailey.

What owning this book says about you: You’re a fashionista who appreciates the work of a fashion trailblazer.

According to the mag, the top 10 female models earned a combined $112 million this year, 30% more than they did last year (a measly $86.5 M). Newer girls, however, aren’t seeing the same Super paydays ever since the recession. Which explains why Gisele made nearly half of that $112 M.

In the book’s introduction, Sally Singer, editor of T Magazine, is quick to point out that this is not your typical behind the curtains tome. That’s owed primarily to the fact that Julien Claessens is not a fashion photographer. In fact he admits that he doesn’t really understand fashion, but he understands his friend Olivier’s work.

So it’s no surprise that his photos aren’t perfectly-posed, editorial-ready snapshots, but abstract portraits that offer a glimpse into a world of extremes: extreme beauty, extreme bodies and an almost otherworldly charm. The star of these portraits, however, are still Theyskens minutely-crafted work.

Like malleable sculptures, Theyskens clothes wrap and drape themselves over the skeletal  frames of Lily Donaldson, Hilary Rhoda, Gemma Ward, Olga Sherer, Lara Stone, Tanya Dziahileva, Catherine McNeil and Sasha Pivovarova, lending a strength, elegance and sophistication otherwise at odds with their prepubescent fragility.

The Other Side of the Picture chronicles Theyskens career chronologically, ending before he began his newest phase at Theory, but Nina Ricci’s Fall/Winter ’09 collection is a fitting denouement, both for the book and for Theyskens time at the brand. That particular collection is the peak of Theyskens craft and a comforting reminder that talent like his shall and will not be wasted. Also, I’m still not over these tranny heels:

Julien Claessens, without understanding fashion, is able to completely grasp the work of Olivier Theyskens. As Claessens says about his friend’s work, “There’s something here that is part of my universe.” His clothes speak, live and breathe through Claessens’ photos because Theyskens intended them to speak, live and breathe on the women he dresses. Claessens and Theyskens simply speak the same language.

What owning this book says about you: You’re a serious-minded fashionista who admires Olivier’s dark aesthetic and/or his dark hotness.

What your dinner guests will say upon seeing this book on your coffee table: “Oh, wow, someone’s pretentious. And fabulous.”

How this book will make your fashion brain grow: Though you’re not likely to gain much in the way of knowledge from The Other Side of the Picture, you’re heart will swell at its beauty.

If you like this, you’ll love: Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty. The book to the Met exhibit is on sale — having had a quick look at it this morning we can definitely say it is worth the 30 bucks (plus free shipping, y’all!)

- Karl Lagerfeld responded in his typical thoughtful and sensitive manner when asked about Christophe Decarnin‘s departure from Balmain: ”Forget about it! This was a job done by a fashion editor. I don’t even know the name of the man who did it, so don’t ask me about that.” [Fashionologie]

- Britney Spears caused a minor riot when she made a surprise appearance at raptress Nicki Minaj‘s after party this weekend, causing six fans to reportedly hyperventilate and pass out from exhaustion dehydration excitement. The two femme fatales will tour this summer and recently collaborated on a remix of  future Song of the Summer,”Till the World Ends” with dumpster diver cum popstar Ke$ha. [MTV]

- 18-year-old Scots Guard Cameron Reilly should have been more guarded over his Facebook. The palace guard has been banned from the wedding march after lashing out online against Kate Middleton, calling her a “stupid, stuck up cow,” a “posh bitch” and asking who “gives a fuck about her?” after the future Princess apparently slighted him. Aww, someone’s got a crush! And someone needs to be put on 24-hour surveillance! [Daily Mail]

- Though she claims she never thought much about pursuing acting, after being tapped to host the ck one -sponsored MTV Push event, Lara Stone says she would “definitely be a Bond girl if they asked me. For sure — I would make a great evil Bond girl!” Now casting, Chesty Von Gaptooth for the next 007 flick. [WWD]

- Sir Elton John has confirmed that Lady Gaga is indeed the godmother to his newborn son Zachary, thus ensuring the gayest kid this side of Chaz Bono. [Daily Mail]

Much credit is given to: a.) Aggy’s first editorial in British Vogue in “TWO years! [sic]“  in the May 2011 issue and b.) a “fresh pixie cut and dye job, calling to mind the Agyness of a few seasons ago.”  I’m not sure how “fresh” this cut is when it recalls  a past freshness, but fashion — contrary to popular belief — loves the familiar.

Deyn has been working, however…sort of…but with a cover of LOVE and an editorial here and there, it rarely compares to her utter ubiquity when she was an “It” model. Now there’s a new “It” model in town (or so I’m told) in Arizona Muse:

Before Muse, there was — and still is — Georgia May Jagger and Lara Stone and Karlie Kloss etc., etc. the catwalk goes on and on.

There will always be an “It” girl stomping down the block, but every supermodel has borne that label. And any supermodel worth her salt has “A Moment” — a return to the forefront, to stardom; hell, Naomi has “A Moment” whenever she assaults someone or smuggles in some blood diamonds. It’s all part of the game.

So don’t call it a comeback, Aggy’s been here for years.

- Vogue UK is, expectedly, going all out for the Royal Wedding with a trifecta of bridal-themed covers. Lara Stone,  Natalia Vodianova and Freja give Terrified Bride Realness for the May issue, which takes a gander at British Vogue‘s 95-year history of covering royal weddings. 95 years of thinly-masked indifference and heavily-veiled brides; where does the time go? [Fashin]

- Though she allegedly told guests at a Topshop dinner that John Galliano would be designing her wedding dress, Kate Moss‘s fiance, Jamie Hince, says that that is “unfounded entirely.” The future Mr. Kate Moss also offered some surprisingly thoughtful insights on the shamed Dior designer: ”You can judge them on the stupid words they said – which I think were stupid, I hope that goes without saying – or you can dig a bit deeper and you can try and find out what the problem is. And I think it’s obvious that it’s alcohol. People are trying to say those are his politics. ‘I love Hitler’ – that’s not political, that’s somebody in trouble.” I must admit I wasn’t too keen on Moss marrying this Hince character, but he seems to b a step up from Pete Doherty. Then again, it’s hard to take a step down from Pete Doherty. [Vogue UK]

- Jimmy Choo is willing to spend £500 million — with the aid of a few backers — to regain his old namesake label. Now I guess Jimmy Choo will know how it feels to go broke trying to buy a pair of his shoes. [Fashionista]

- Leave it to Mimi to paint a butterfly on her soon-to-pop baby belly. Though by the looks of the artwork and the spelling of “dem babies,” methinks Mariah’s other little one, Nick Cannon must have gotten into the finger paints. They’re so cute at that age. [Perez Hilton]

- Lil Wayne covers the latest issue of Interview Magazine, wherein he gets grilled by alleged racist Paris Hilton. The two have surprisingly a lot in common, like they both know: what it’s like to be in jail; what it’s like to make it rain on strippers at 18 years old; and what it’s like to bitch slap Lindsay Lohan. - Lady Gaga celebrated her birthday the traditional way: by blowing out the candles on her birthday cake, wearing a nude body stocking and doing a mariachi cover of “Born This Way.”  [Twitter/YouTube]

- Prince Harry threw brother William a stag party this weekend and though the affair was private and sealed off from the prying eyes of the paparazzi, rest assured that “Prince William dropped his trousers and downed pints of bitter as he and brother Harry gave their royal cousin a boozy stag weekend to remember.” Whatever that means. - The Celebrity Meltdown has become the golden ram for the press these days. Catch a celeb on their drunken, coked-up, hooker-drenched downfall and the issues go flying off the stand. So it’s good to know who may or may be following in Charlie Sheen‘s winning footsteps, though I think we all know Miley is a safe bet. [College Candy]

The cover, sure to be a collector’s item, is a beautiful and subtle cap on one of fashion’s most controversial and luminous careers. Instead of going with a big name super, Roitfeld chose 29-year-old (ancient by model standards) Dutch model Saskia, explaining to Style.com:

“I love risk…Now I found a new girl called Saskia. She has short hair, no one knows her, and this is going to be my last cover.”

Givenchy‘s creative director Ricardo Tisci introduced Roitfeld to Saskia. Tisci is also responsible for Lara Stone‘s stellar rise to supermodeldom and Saskia is poised to follow in her stilettoed steps.

“Look what happened to Lara Stone. She wanted to stop being a model. She had no success at all. And my friend Riccardo Tisci said to me, ‘Oh, you have to look at that girl, she’s amazing.’ And I believed him and I booked her, and after that I booked her for each issue. She was the cover of my special anniversary issue, the cover of the February issue. I gave her eight or nine covers, and now she’s one of the biggest stars. It’s very exciting to make someone a star, and it was something you could do with French Vogue .”

Carine Roitfeld leaves Vogue Paris on a great and  positive note, creating great fashion karma. I’m waiting with bated breath for what else this historic issue has in store.

For the Spring 2011 campaign the supermodel was captured by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott in two different all-white suited outfits in which she truly looks glorious.

In the past Lara Stone was often styled in a little bit rugged or naive way, which matches her look quite well – especially due to the little gap between her teeth, which we love so much about her… But not so in this campaign, where she takes the role of a true classical beauty.

The Calvin Klein brand as well as her beautiful self couldn’t have come together in any better or more surprising way! What a great match!

These boards certainly give a new meaning to the “pop shove it” (I don’t know what that is, but Wikipedia says it’s skateboard lingo).

Racked‘s “very well-placed” sources, claim:

[T]he magazine’s parent company was unhappy with all the bad press surrounding Roitfeld’s alleged pay-for-play scandals…demanding huge sums of money for extracurricular consulting gigs and the enormous, public embarrassment of being banned from Balenciaga last season for abusing her position at Vogue. In the latter case, Roitfeld allegedly borrowed Balenciaga preview pieces and sent them to her client, Max Mara, to copy…”

Then there’s that other scandal with ANDAM winner Hakaan:

“An angry anonymous letter, which was circulated among French media this week, asked “how a Turkish designer out of nowhere books Natalia Vodianova, Maria Carla Boscono, Lara Stone or Natasha Poly for his show—models asking €15.000 min per show, and who aren’t really famous for their charity!”

Roitfeld also made an unprecedented move by showing up to Hakaan’s first show with Kate Moss in tow. And then there’s that other scandal involving LVMH Chairman and CEO Bernard Arnault, who “allegedly threatened Conde Nast International Chairman Jonathan Newhouse with the removal of all LVMH ads from the next issue of” French Vogue after the last issue (edited by Tom Ford) apparently didn’t contain enough LVMH ad credits and exercised “poor taste” in this editorial.

As for rumors that Carine will be working with Ford on his new womenswear line, Ford recently told the New York Times Cathy Horyn:

“Carine and I have no plans to work together at the moment, and it is nothing that we have even discussed, but of course I think she is brilliant and we are close friends so who knows about the future.”

Well, I guess Heidi Klum‘s been right all along. In fashion one day you’re Anna Wintour and the next, you’re …Carine Roitfeld. It will be interesting to see how this story unfolds, who will succeed Carine (Emmanuelle Alt is apparently not an option) and where Carine lands, besides inevitably on her stilettoed feet.

Countless jobs, landed the role as the face of Calvin Klein, and appeared on the cover of French Vogue’s 90th anniversary issue. She’s served as an impressively outspoken model who stands up for not only what she believes in, but also her own rights – by opening up to Vogue about curves and suing(and winning) a case against French Playboy.

“No woman wants photos of them to be published in Playboy without permission,” Stone said in a statement. “I’m very pleased to have won the case, although of course I would rather not have had to take legal action at all.”

Stone is donating the money to Great Ormond Street Hospital. I’m glad she kicked ass and won! There is absolutely nothing wrong with posing for Playboy if it’s done willingly.
