I know the preppy movement of recent fashion has resurrected the letterman jacket look. I have to admit, I have warmed up to the modern take on a classic high school staple. But looking to the past, high school letterman jackets are about as ugly as it gets. I don’t care what you lettered in- soccer, football, band, academics, boozing, whatever. That felt fabric shell with leather sleeves was an eyesore every day of my teen existence. And to make matters worse, people continue to wear them after high school. If you have found a nice, vintage number that fits well and looks retro, by all means, wear it! But keep your old letters locked in the attic; or better yet, don’t sew them to a garment in the first place.
