Beatles Biopic to Star Johnny Depp?

Wait.. hold up, Beatles biopic?? Yes, please! It is frightfully true that there have been few cinematic tales of The Beatles, and even fewer with any commercial acclaim. Across the Universe was visually stunning, and box office friendly, but it did not tell the story of the Fab Four. Nowhere Boy, the young John Lennon story, got buzz in the Beatle world back in 2009, but no real ticket traction. However, the currently in-the-works film, The Longest Cocktail Party would cover the recording of Let It Be and the creation of Apple Records. With Johnny Depp in the works, you could call it a Beatles bi-epic.

The Beatles are number 1 on countless lists counted in the past 50 years, not least FashionIndie’s Best Dressed Man Bands of All Time. The band that changed the world had a look that evolved with their music; always the classiest. Their look was no accident, and their intensely interesting photos had purpose behind them. Some for which were just smiling for national press, but others like with their friend and photographer Robert Freeman (who shot the first 5 album covers), they delved into deeper emotional imagery. On the heels of Paul McCartney’s 8-city tour (3 hours each night, not 1 sip of water #werq), and The Fest for Beatles Fans this past weekend and Beatles Week coming up in Liverpool, we’ve got the Fab Four on the mind. The early Beatles in their most iconic look: cuban heels, near-Nehru Pierre Cardin collarless jackets, mop tops. This might be how you remember them at their earliest.

4 Fab Beatle Boots

Do you want to know a secret? Beatle boots are actually called winklepickers. And this oddly named ankle-high pointy-toed boot of the early 60′s Liverpool is seeing a resurgence from designers like Alexander Wang, Guiseppe Zanotti and more of our favorites. Their mod minimal quality reached rocker status when The Beatles adopted them as their official shoe of choice. I’ve got a feeling we’ll be seeing these on our fab feet.

The Beatles started wearing them in their Cavern Club nights, aka that hole in the wall in Liverpool, where John, Paul, George and (eventually) Ringo would literally drive the kids into a frenzy. The Fab Four meticulously honed their look. When they hired Ringo in ’62, it was under the condition that he too brush his hair forward into a mop top. Soon, that hairdo, the Nehru jacket and the winklepicker, renamed the Beatle Boot, became just about as internationally crazed as the boys themselves. Stores across the world went wild making and stocking the Beatle Boot, and Andy Warhol even immortalized the advertisements in a work of art.

Stella McCartney to Present at Liverpool

Eco friendly designer Stella McCartney announced today that she is returning to her father’s roots to present her Autumn/Winter collection. She will stage a one-off catwalk show in Liverpool to mark Liverpool’s year as Europe’s Capital of Culture.

The show will take place June 1st at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA) which is a school her father helped set up on the site of his old High School. Paul, among other acts, will be there to support Stella before performing in the city in the evening. Tickets will be sold for the event to raise money for the LIPA.
