Designer Daily: John Bartlett

Edited by

With male models smothered in mud and sailor stripes, cloaked in the Pendleton blankets of the 1800s, John Bartlett fused the little barbarian boys of “Lord of the Flies” with Steve Zissou’s aquatic life for a chic longshoreman’s collection. It also appeals to the eco-conscious, as John Bartlett has just taken the leap to make his company entirely cruelty-free. Designer Discovery: Black Sheep and Prodigal Sons

Dare I say that this jewelry designer has got a bit of tribal voodoo and Lord of the Flies on the brain, but the dark accessories of Black Sheep and Prodigal Sons have landed a coveted spot on my Christmas wish list. Black Sheep and Prodigal Sons is the work of Brooklyn’s Derrick R. Cruz. Inspired by unending energy of the city’s life and fashion scene, Cruz’s densely detailed paintings appear painted on ivory pendants. Some of the dangling animal heads and praying hands may give off a sort of creepy religious yet morbid vibe, but pair one of these with a simple solid v-neck and a blazer and you’ve got yourself one killer look.
