Who Is The Next Fashion Saviour?

People are always looking for the next Donna, the next Ralph, or the next Calvin. (sorry Tommy, we never consider you a fashion designer) but no one ever acknowledge that there may not be a next big fashion business bearing a designer’s name. Consider this: after the big 3, name another designer with his/her business over 1 billion dollars. The answer is: 0. It’s very typical of fashion to prefer the system to remain unchanged.
Let’s look at new york. Marc? His business is tiny comparing to Louis Vuitton. Micheal Kors? Those old Tommy business guys, Lawrence and Silas, brought Kors 6 years ago and proclaimed it will be a billion dollar business. They are stuck at the middle. Our personal favorite: Narciso Rodriguez? Liz Claiborne brought 50% for a mere 10 million, then return it back to the designer late last year. We assume for much less. Then we have those wunderkind kids one after another; remember Zack? What about Jeffery Chow? It’s ok, because now we have the Wangs and the Wus. But would they be like Calvin?
Yes, some designers would claim that they would like to remain small and ‘intimate’. Fine, but you should also know that we are some of the most egotistical creatures. We want fame, money, and sway, in that order. To drive any real influence, one will need to reach the mass (say hi to Issac Mizrahi). To do that, you need cold hard cash. A billion of it.
What companies blew up so big in the part 10 years? Juicy. Sven. Zara. H&M.
Can we see a pattern and the future here?

MOMENT OF STYLE: Katie Grand

Katie Grand -the former editor of Pop Magazine is never afraid of high fashion, and why should she be?
Not only is she wearing a wooly mammoth fuschia pink Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2009 coat, but she also has Louis Vuitton Fall 2009 bunny ears, as a hair accessory.
Her amazing look is complete with Louis Vuitton Spring 2009 heels and a sparkling pink – barely seen – dress.

Louis Vuitton Takes Google to Court

I really just liked the image and needed a reason to repost. You can read the full story on The Cut, but it’s pretty boring unless you care about legal goodness and Google Bashing.

SPREAD UM: Claudia Schiffer for Vogue UK, April 2009

The rest of Claudia Schiffer’s shoot for the April 2009 issue of Vogue UK has been released.
Wearing Versace on the (kind of boring) cover, Claudia has a more interesting spread inside, with an Hermes poncho, black Louis Vuitton dress, and of course the Balmain military vest.

Peter Copping Replaces Olivier Theyskens at Nina Ricci

Olivier Theyskens (right) has officially left Nina Ricci, to be replaced by Louis Vuitton designer Peter Copping (left).
This means a totally new designer for the house for Spring 2010, and a major opening at LVMH, unless Marc’s already found Peter’s replacement, hope we’ll know soon.
Wonder if Olivier will take this opportunity to finally launch his own label? Hope so.

RANDOM COOL: The Sweetest In High Fashion

High fashion lollipops? Sure why not! I’m in love with this concept! I would be willing to pay the $5 these would most likely cost. The sad news, you can’t actually buy these. Bummer I know. They are part of a shoot by photographer Massimo Gammacurta. Some day I tell you, some day!

Kanye Brings Back the Denim Jacket

Has anyone noticed that Kanye has been rocking a ton of denim jackets lately? Or maybe it’s the same one. I though the cardinal rule of wearing a denim jacket was that you could NOT wear it with jeans? Well, what do I know, I’m merely a blogger and he designs for Louis Vuitton.
Performing his hit song ‘Heartless’ on American Idol, Kanye rocks the denim jacket, and even has an extra t-shirt in his back pocket in case he needs to change.
SPREAD UM: The Perfect Mess
“The Perfect Mess,” I dub thee the greatest editorial to ever hit the printing press! Lula Mag, issue #8, has drawings of our famous fashion friends wearing top labels like Marc Jacobs, Louis Vuitton and Lanvin! Though drawn garments aren’t nearly as detailed as a photograph, I am very intrigued by the raw sketches, leaving a bit of ambiguity for the readers. I absolutely love the concept of sketched editorials, but could spreads like this instigate others to sketch as well? If so, what would all the print models do?! If this is the new trend, it looks like Russia is getting all of their pretty girls back!

MOMENTS OF STYLE: Amber Rose aka Kanye Who?
This woman is my official obsession. She makes me forget about the annoyance that is Kanye. Here she’s wearing an Alexander Wang dress and Louis Vuitton everything else.

Kanye And GF Sit Front Row at Paris Fashion Week

Kanye West and his girlfriend Amber Rose were front row at many shows during Paris Fashion Week, including Hussein Chalayan, Sonia Rykiel, and Givenchy.
Amber Rose wore one of my fave dresses from the Alexander Wang Spring 09 show, which she accessorized with Louis Vuitton heals and bag (also straight off the Spring 09 runway).
‘The risky dress is completely sheer, with a few strategically placed black embossed swirl coils. Another feature is that the mini dress has cut-out thumbs at the sleeves.’
According to Red Carpet Fashion only 2 other girls wore this dress, Erin Wasson, and Sarah Harding and it’s available at Barney’s for $995.

Louis Vuitton Doesn’t Want Their Goods In Your Shitty Videos

The legal eagles at Louis Vuitton have won another lawsuit. This time against Bad Boy Records and the group that gave us the skanktastic Aubrey O’Day, Danity Kane. More power too you Louis, I’d sue her too if she started greasing my shit up with her skunk.

LVMH is Picking Up Some New Designers

Seems like LVMH is in buying mode. Gareth Pugh is already on the block. Wonder if they are interested in a little fashion blog…

SPREAD UM: Love Magazine Sneak Peek

We’ve got a little sneak peak of LOVE and while it is all “push the limits” and such, I can’t help wondering if Louis Vuitton actually makes clothing in Beth Ditto’s size. I know big girls need chic too, but can I get an official comment on this? Could Louis Vuitton be going plus? Or is LOVE just being a chub tease?

SPREAD UM: Two Different Covers, One Louis Vuitton Outfit

I absolutely adore this look from the Louis Vuitton Spring 09 runway. One outfit styled two different ways for two different magazine covers is quite interesting. Julia Dunstall for the Febuary 09 issue of L’Occiciel is wearing the more understated version; solely the outfit sans accessories. Simple makeup and hair prove this look can stand on its own. Anna Selezneva for the Febuary 09 issue of Vogue Nippon looks like she walked right off the runway. Multiple necklaces and heavy bangles accessorize the look without making it seem cluttered. Damn I need this outfit!
Thanks to Fashion Copious for the photos.
You Weren’t Invited. Neither Were We.
Bill. Bill. Bill. Postcard from grandma. Bill. Parking Ticket. Bill. Bill. Invitation to Dior Homme Fall 2009. Aside from the bills and the parking ticket (sorry Rebecca), this would be the ideal contents of any mailbox. The perfect clothes, accessories, hair, makeup, lights, sound and runway are all necessary for a killer show. But if you don’t send guest innovative invitations, you’re audience is going to be empty! These are just some of the nifty invitations to this years F/W 2009 men’s fashion shows!

RUNWAY RUNDOWN: Louis Vuitton Fall 2009

Polished luxury in muted tones hit the runway of Louis Vuitton’s paris showing of their mens collection. Favorites included a crocodile jacket which will give you some defense when swimming with corporate sharks.
