VIDEO: Life @_lovebrigade

Fashion Indie friends and booming indie designers, Love Brigade, put out an awesome video and series of photos through The New Pop showing their life during New York Fashion Week. The photos are great, the events looked amazing, and the video just tops it all off. I love the Brigaders, and I can’t wait to see what they are up to next. Oh and did I mention they just had pieces pulled for an upcoming spread in WWD Men’s? AMAZING!

FASHION INDIE PLAYLIST: Grizzly Bear (@ Jelly Pool Party)

I headed over to the last Jelly Pool Party of the summer yesterday with Alyssa and Jamie from Love Brigade to see friends play dodgeball, and watch Grizzly Bear. I had heard of Grizzly Bear, but I had never seen them. I was pleasantly surprised by their live show, and I think Mischa Barton, Solange Knowles (or is that Beyonce?), and Jay-Z all were too. The lines were crazy long, and people were trying to jump the fences (one girl ate shit and fell flat on her face), but overall, everyone seemed to be in to the beautiful weather and awesome music. Check out Grizzly Bear on their site, and see photo evidence of the whole day (and after party) by Nicky Digital. Sundays are fundays!

FIRST LOOK: Love Brigade Men’s F/W ‘09 Lookbook

Love Brigade does it again! Their men’s lookbook for Fall/Winter ‘09 is just as awesome as the women’s. The photos are awesome on their own, and the designs are so new and fresh, I’m telling every guy I know to buy everything. Look for great details, accessories, and designs to hit stores and online next month, and be assured that it will be unlike any other fall collections out this year.
See the rest of the Lookbook on Cult, and keep an eye out for the collection online (Lovebrigade.com and Karmaloop), and in stores (Redeem in DC, and Love Brigade and Friends at 230 Grand street)
FIRST LOOK: Love Brigade Women’s A/W ‘09 Collection

Love Brigade has just released their lookbooks for Fall, and I’m SUPER excited to see all of this stuff hit stores next month. The women’s line features intricate details on basic tees and dresses, great new fabrics on their classic looks, and innovative designs that you aren’t going to find anywhere else (great job Alyssa!) I can’t wait to see those red (ish) pants with the back detailing, looks SO awesome. The book has a great story to it, and the photos (photog. Rachel Kemper) are absolutely gorgeous.
Check out the rest of the lookbook on Cult, and keep your eye open for the new line in stores (Love Brigade and Friends at 230 Grand, Redeem in Washington DC), and online (Karmaloop.com and the Love Brigade website)

THE TEN: Best NYC Stores You Might Not Know About

Sick of waiting in long lines only to find that generic store in SoHo has ran out of your size? We’ve made a list on stores we love, and that you may have missed. We’re sure that some of you fashion peeps already know about these wonders, but we want to let everyone else in on the secrets:
Cry Wolf- Located in St. Marks (111), this boutique features goods for men and women from awesome designers such as: 80%20, Chronicles of Never, Creative Recreation, S2Vs, Jeffrey Campbell, Gram, and Nudie. Find the best shoes, accessories, and clothing from your favorite indie designers worldwide, without having to scour through tons of internet sites.
Inven.tory- Located at Lafayette and Spring, get GREAT deals (outlet pricing) on emerging designers, and catch up on the latest trends! Inven.tory’s inventory changes weekly, so stop in frequently to make sure you get the best stuff! They don’t have a site quite yet, but you can check out their blog for all the latest news about the store, and what you should be wearing.
Gargyle- Located on Orchard near Canal (16A), this store is aiming to revitalize the country club lifestyle, and features designers like Vena Cava, Fred Perry, Karen Walker, and Surface to Air (among others). They claim to love ‘golf, tennis, concerts, and parties,’ so if you fit into any or all of the above, or just enjoy ‘anything that lets us have fun with our family and friends,’ check out Gargyle. Shop online if you must, but to get the full country club party experience, you have to stop in!
In God We Trust- They’ve got three stores in town, 265 Lafayette, Ludlow btwn. Stanton and Rivington, and 135 Wythe in Brooklyn. Stop in for the sickest jewelry, antique and new, as well as fun, adventurous clothing that brings out the vintage nature in everyone. Check out their site for previews, and stop in to get the real treasures.
Tokyo 7- Located on 7th St. btwn. 2nd and 3rd Ave, this consignment store offers limitless designer goods, everything from Prada, Gucci, D&G, Miu Miu, Chanel, Alexander McQueen, Heatherette, and 5Preview. Save on anything you could possibly want, and enjoy the ever-changing stock. No site available, sorry to all of you non-NYC natives.
Love Brigade- Located at 230 Grand Street, you’ve probably heard us talk about Love Brigade, but we want you to love them as much as we do. They sell their original line Love Brigade, a diffusion line (ex.oh), as well as an experimental line (As We Are), as well as selected pieces from other great indie designers. Stop in and say hi to our friends, and get some awesome clothes while you’re at it!
Assembly- Located on Ludlow btwn. Stanton and Houston, this store is just for the boys (with the occasional women’s accessory filtering through). Get new and vintage clothing and accessories from the greatest collector in town, with tons of foreign labels and indie stuff, too. There’s even a vinyl section in the back, so you can get your music and fashion all in once place!
Valley- Located on Elizabeth btwn. Prince and Spring, the ultimate experience in one-stop shopping. Enjoy looking through clothing from avant-guard designers, and favorites like Grey Ant, Lady Leisure, and Caroline K, and also enjoy the skin, nail, and waxing salon, and a cafe. This store really has it all, check it out as soon as you can!

Kiosk- Located on Spring St. btwn. Broadway and Mercer, this isn’t exactly a clothing or accessories store, but they sell a bunch of random trinkets and other goodies that would be great for a DIY project. If you’re in one of those moods to look for something, but you aren’t exactly sure what, head over to Kiosk. Plus, they’re right next to that window that sells the mini cupcakes, which is awesome.
First Among Equals- Located at 177 Orchard, this store sells 0044, Bess, Dunlin, Michel Berandi, and more (just for guys). First Among Equals has recently opened a dark downstairs that you enter through a narrow spiral staircase, and enjoy a private shopping feel with handpicked clothes from designers, offering a rare flair that you won’t find anywhere else. Check out their site for up-to-date sales, but don’t miss out on this unique shopping experience.

Catching Up With Love Brigade

It’s been a while since we bugged our friends over at Love Brigade, so what a better time than now to poke our heads around their Williamsburg store and studio? This afternoon, Hillary and I had the pleasure of catching up with Alyssa Key, Love Brigade’s dressed to kill, walking billboard, founder and CEO, as well as Christopher ‘Tinypants’ Dang, the Brigade’s co-owner and sales and marketing director, who rocked the Linda Farrow x Bernhard Willhelm sunglasses. After snapping some photos and trying on a few Fall 2009 garments, Alyssa and Tinypants gave us a look into the Love Brigade crystal ball, dishing out the details on the company’s past, present and future.
Just approaching their 4-year New York anniversary, Love Brigade was actually conceived in London while Alyssa completed her fashion design degree at London’s Istituto Marangoni. Jamie Rockaway, Love Brigade’s Vice President and co-founder, helped found the company, but sadly, we were unable to rendezvous. Tinypants studied digital arts and science at the University of Florida, and after his move to the Big Apple, he began designing t-shirts for Love Brigade, evolving his involvement in the company. Since their American debut, Love Brigade graduated from a Brooklyn loft to prime retail front in Williamsburg, a location that serves as both the Love Brigade and Friends store, as well as the Love Brigade studio office.
Since it’s start, Love Brigade’s aesthetic has remained relatively consistent, with the exception of a replacement of the company’s high-end line with Ex-Oh, a recession ready diffusion line. The current Spring/Summer 2009 collection is the first of Love Brigade’s economic conscious diffusion line, providing some remarkable ready-to-wear garments. Love Brigade’s diffusion line will continue into the Fall 2009 collection (which looks pretty incredible I might add!) as the market for high-end fashion continues to digress. The Fall 2009 womenswear is inspired by the transition from a failing friendship to empowerment while the menswear collection themes the wandering man, both containing Love Brigade’s infamous collection story-line.
Needless to say, Love Brigade has had an exciting few years, but 2009 has perhaps been one of the best. From their customized Chuck Taylor high-tops, to their work with the Black Eyed Peas, White Tie Affair and Rob Roy, and their shop on Karmaloop, Love Brigade’s success is honest, raw and real. Alyssa bid us adieu with some fabulous advice for aspiring fashion designers: “Find the perfect balance between your art and business.” Hmm, seems to be that the Brigade follows her advice, because as of July 2009, Love Brigade couldn’t look any more perfect!

RUNWAY RUNDOWN: Love Brigade Fall 2009 Collection

My friends at Love Brigade were kind enough to send me the images from their Fall 2009 runway show from St. Louis Fashion Week, and the collection looks amazing. The writers here at Fashion Indie have been lucky enough to establish an amazing relationship with these Brooklyn based designers, and we have enjoyed watching them grow and blossum into a more prominant name in fashion. The latest collection is packed full of that classic Love Brigade style and some amazing new suprises. I’m really excited about the new collection, and I have no doubt in my mind that I’ll be rolling through the Coop in Williamsburg and picking myself up a few pieces.

LOVE BRIGADE: Going Home Fall 2009 Collection

It seems as though all Fashion Indie’s favorite friends decided to e-mail us all at the same time. Love Brigade is the focus this time, and damn did they step up to the plate with a look to kill for Fall 2009. The collection features some absolutely amazing pieces, and while I normally focus on the men’s side of the fashion world, it’s the women’s collection that knocked me on my fashion ass this time. The photo shoot really helps to bring out the attitude and story behind the collection, and really compliments the insanely amazing aesthetic that “Going Home” brings to the table. I love love love what the Brigaders have done for the Fall, and they are really securing their dominance not only in the Williamsburg scene, but are really making themselves known in the entire fashion scene as a whole.
For all of you out there looking to stock your store with this awesome collection, be sure to head over to the Love Brigade website for more details…if you know what’s good for you!
