For those of you that haven’t checked your recent Twitter updates or Facebook posts, Coachella festival 2010 was this weekend and only one word comes to mind: EXHAUSTION. It all started with a phone call from a friend asking if I wanted to go the Friday it started and ended with bruises, scrapes, and an aesthetic overload of the most diverse genres of music in my head.

I got there around 10:00 pm with a welcome performance from Vampire Weekend. After that I landed front row to see my number one IDOL Jay Z and a guest performance from Beyonce. The next day was Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, front row with MGMT, Devo, and Tiesto. At least those are the ones I saw. Oh, and there was a naked guy.

When Sunday came around I was Coachella’d out but kept in mind that I still needed to see Little Boots, Thom Yorke, and Gorillaz. It was well worth it and I will be coming back next year for sure, but I am still glad it is only once a year otherwise I would go into a permanent party coma.

March 23rd was The Battalion runway show in downtown for Concept LA. The show had a lot of faux fur coats, cardigans, head wraps, and dresses.  One piece that really caught my eye was a veggie fur shoulder wrap with an elastic back that just held your shoulders and stayed in place. It was something new that I hadn’t seen before so that was cool.

Being a vegan, I was really pleased that they actually used a lot of faux fur and leather in the collection. I also didn’t realize that I was wearing something VERY similar to the collection,  a faux fur vest (no, I did not plan it). Overall, I think this was one of my favorite show this week and am anxious to see what else The Battalion has in store for us.

Last night i went to two shows in downtown for Concept LA. The first show I saw was the great martinMARTIN. Scheduled at 7:30 to start, i arrived at about 8 and already had it in my head that i probably wouldn’t be able to sit at all. Luckily they had saved me a front row seat which also came with a gift bag and some death stares by the people that were standing. It was great. Studs, leather, draped hoods, and red/blue extensions were just some of the minor accents that really put together one edgy show.

Last night was the first night of LA Fashion Week @ Box Eight (REFOCUS). The event showcased an inside look into fashion shoots with designers such as Skingraft, Gold Spun, Funktional, and Isabel Lu. REFOCUS is a one time weekend event for fashion week with each day bringing different designers, models and photographers together to give you an up close and personal view of what its like in the industry. I Arrived at Box Eight with Editor in Chief of Cliche Magazine Jeremy Fall, and well known photographer Dirk Mai. We then met up with good friend Miguel Angel Jimenez and Cody Kennedy. Overall The night was great, and yes the open bar did help.

So I know I’m not usually the one writing the ‘On The List’ posts, but I was in LA last week hanging out with Lucas Logan and you all know that we just had to get some events in while I was there.  Friday we headed to the Moods of Norway store on Robertson in Los Angeles for some afternoon cocktails and waffles, and to check out their new spring line.  The sparkling Sake was a great touch to all of the bright colors, light music, and painted tractors.  Check out the video we made of the store, with a little commentary here and there to the lines.  Check out the Moods of Norway site to see more of their stuff, and find out where you can shop!

GOT MILK? Not quite. This weekend I decided to take a trip to Las Vegas at 12:00 am and when I was there I decided to meet up with this photographer Arty Z of Zumel Studios.

We thought up ideas and since I have always wanted to do a got milk shoot I was steered towards that. I’m against whole milk, so I decided to switch it up a bit and go soy. The results came out pretty rad. And working with Arty Z was unlike any other photographers. He knows what he’s doing.

Meet Aaron Farley, an LA based photographer who is making his way everywhere working with clientele such as Myspace Music and PAPER Magazine. Aaron Farley came to L.A. in the year 2000 and in 10 years has made one bad ass portfolio.

Me and Aaron met at a PAPER Magazine party a couple weeks ago and took some pictures at the event. Then set up a shoot for a later time other than the party atmosphere. Once he gave me his card i looked him up and was impressed at his portfolio and the celebrities and models he has shot. So i decided to go ahead and work with him.  One of my favorite things about this photographer was that it wasnt like a typical photoshoot, it was more like hanging out.

Saturday was the PAPER Magazine x Converse Party at the Montablan Theatre in Downtown Hollywood. I got there around 1:30 pm for the day event. DJ Ana Calderon played some rad jams for everyone while the guests got to paint free tote bags PAPER style.

After that, while I was sitting down, a photographer for PAPER magazine came up to me and asked to do a shoot of me for the magazine. Hopefully you will see me in the next issues. : )

Then it was time for the After Party. So much fun, and so many guests like Perez Hilton, Kat Von D, Ana Calderon, Audrey Kitching, DJ Skeet Skeet, The Crocodiles, The Dum Dum Girls, Tokimonsta, Best Coast and all the other occasional internet celebs.

After i cruised the party, decided to make my way to backstage with the crocodiles, the dum dum girls and best coast. Where i took advantage of the free vodka, courtesy of Belvedere. PAPER also came and joined us backstage to film us for PAPER TV.

You may have noticed some new faces on Fashion Indie today, and I just wanted to take a second to introduce all of the Indies to our newest contributors, Lucas Logan and Jessica Li.

Lucas is a blogger and model from Los Angeles that you may recognize from our ‘25 under 25 stylish people to know‘ and a few other ‘Street Heroes’ posts around Fashion Indie. Lucas has his own blog where he chronicles his nightlife in LA, and now you can find more from him right here!

Jessica is another ‘Street Hero’ previously featured on Fashion Indie with her own style blog. She’s one of the few fashion-conscious people I know in Michigan, so expect to see great Lookbook-esque street style photos, and you may catch her and I out and about around Michigan if you’re lucky.  Plus, she’s going to be studying abroad in Paris very soon, so we can only imagine the great things she’ll be filling us in on from Europe.

Lucas Logan, an 18-year-old It Boy from LA has become the newest member of our ’25 Under 25 Stylish People To Know.’ You may remember us asking you about ten times to give us suggestions on who to replace Brad Goreski on the list because we found out he is secretly an old man, but no one really listened to us. Finally, a Cult member, Melanie Maverick, came through for us.  She introduced us to fashion blogger/model/designer Lucas Logan, a braced-face triangle lover from LA that writes for Stylish Kids In Riot, as well as has his personal blog that talks about his going-ons and includes lots of photos.  Apparently he’s going to be doing a runway show with American Apparel this fall, and spends most of his time spray painting, hanging out in the woods, and wearing beanies.  We know this kid’s extremely LA, but that doesn’t have to be a bad thing.

Celebrities-

Rihanna- Ri’s been really stepping it up lately. She’s got a wide range of looks, and is starting to find a world of her own when it comes to her style.

Lady Gaga- Everyone knows she’s crazy. Lady Gaga is definitely changing the views of fashion right now

Taylor Momsen- Are you surprised? You know we love her.

Emma Watson- The young HP actress is growing up! And looking hot at every event, if we do say so ourselves.

The Olsen Twins- They’ve been in the fashion eye for awhile now, and now that they’ve got some of their own lines, they always look awesome.

Zoe Kravitz- Lenny’s daughter! This teen has been making a lot of appearances lately, and looks good!

Chanel Iman- Our favorite model to follow on Twitter. Chanel is so adorable, and has really awesome style

Tallulah Morton- She’s all over the Cobra Snake (in a Cory Kennedy way), and always looking fly.

Cole Mohr- This is for you Kirby.  Cole brought boyish and grunge to the fashion forefront, for models anyway. Plus he’s incredibly handsome, which definitely isn’t a bad thing.

Ethan James- Ethan is being seen more and more on the fashion scene (Milan fashion week, H & M, tons of editorial spreads), and has a similar look to Cole. I actually went to high school with this Ford model, and he’s been the most stylish guy I know since he was 15.

Jethro Cave- Pioneered the half-shaved head. LOVE those hanger tattoos.

Fashion Personalities and Party People-

Alexa Chung- Whether she’s dressed to kill or wearing denim cutoffs, Alexa Chung is always on top of her game.

Chloe Sevigny- Great designer, great style icon. I’m in love with her buckle booties, which she is seen wearing a lot, paired with skinny pants or cute dresses. Definitely a hipster style icon.  We know she isn’t exactly under 25, but she’s been around for so long as a stylish designer to know, and like our moms, is one of those women that turn 25 every year for the rest of their lives.

Peaches Geldof- This social always looks gorgeous (as do all the Geldofs), for events or on the street with her fake fiance.

Aaron Kolfage- Fashion Indie’s favorite party host and dear friend, Aaron always looks fierce on Friday nights at Ruff Club. He dresses with such creativity, I haven’t seen anything like it anywhere else. This weekend, Aaron was wearing a giant tulle bowtie with a brooch in the middle, and I was mad jealous. Aaron gives us Midwesterners hope for being incredibly stylish, he’s from Michigan!

Fashion Bloggers-

Pelayo of Kate Loves Me – This guy, and his girlfriend, both have killer style. He wears some of the craziest things I’ve ever seen (including Louis Vuitton mesh tights!), and has perfectly coiffed hair at all times.

Lovisa The Intern- Lovisa Drever is all over Lookbook.nu, but I know her from Waffles + Falafels (who even briefly carried a shirt with her photo on it). She’s got a killer sense of style and can pull anything off, plus adds to the crazy personalities of W + F, who are some of my favorite people.

Six Six Sick Girls- These hosts and bloggers DIY matching outfits for their events, which include everything from red wigs to elbow gloves. They not only have a crazy (and matching) sense of DIY style, they also post some (literally) sick stuff on their blog.

Kirby Marzec- Fashion Indie’s own managing editor, Kirby not only knows everything about every designer, and what’s going to be hot next season, but she also isn’t afraid to pull it off. Whether it’s drop (to the knee) crotch pants, DIY ripped tees, or metal vests, you can be assured that Kirby will wear it, and she’ll wear it damn well.

Jazzi McG- We had a half hour long talk the other day about how much we love Jazzi’s blog, and her style.  A queen of DIYing and always dressed perfectly for the occasion, she’s definitely one to watch.

Tavi of Style Rookie-  Tavi is no rookie, maybe in the way that ‘Rookie of the Year’ becomes a professional baseball player, Tavi dresses better than some veterans of fashion.

Camille of Childhood Flames- Another not-even-legal fashion blogger showing that you don’t have to have a career to be fashionable, this sixteen year old is a pro at mixing designer goods with things we can afford, and is also taking advantage of the DIY world.

Lucas Logan- This 18-year-old from LA is all over the internet, model/blogger (Stylish Kids In Riot)/designer, Lucas is California’s newest ‘It’ Kid, braces and all.

The Veronicas- I’ve followed The Veronicas since I was in high school, and their style has definitely evolved into rocker chic. They always look good separately, and even better together, on stage or off, and aren’t afraid to take risks.
