Good, because they’re going to need a little trial and error. Ever since Roy Halston diluted his brand with licensing in the 70s — which led to his firing from the company in 1984 and subsequent death in 1990 — the Halston line has been under something of a curse. Everyone and their mother has tried to revive it with Harvey Weinstein and SJP being the last foolhardy souls to attempt salvation.

Whereas Weinstein’s background is in film and Parker’s main hoof is in acting, Malka comes with a mass of fashion experience under his belt. For over ten years he served as president of BCBG Max Azria and he was planning on retiring until he got offered the job at Halston. “There were maybe two or three brands that could pull me out of retirement, and this was one,” Malka said. “But it had to be all about the way I run it. No outside interference.”

So Halston is now the Ben Malka show. Hilco, which owns the Halston brand, and a silent investor serve as passive partners while Malka holds the largest share in the company. Malka hired away BCBG’s chief creative officer Marie Mazelis to design for Halston then picked up and moved the headquarters out to L.A., where he shares studio space with Mad Men. The unlikely move to the west coast is an attempt to refocus the Halston Heritage line, which they are using as a platform to relaunch the brand.

“[T]he Heritage line… is contemporary and obviously this is the place for that.” Malka explained. “It’s also a global city and a brand like this belongs here. I think it will be a boon to the Los Angeles fashion community.” Halston Heritage will range in price from $50 to $500, with certain pieces going for as much as $2500. The Halston runway line, however, will be based out of New York where an atelier is currently being constructed and is set to debut for the fall 2013 season. Prices are expected to go as high as $10,000. “I want to create a strong differentiation between the two…Halston [runway] is about innovation in technique and fabric. It’s about exclusivity and luxury. Heritage is about making the brand more accessible using timeless codes like fluidity and tailoring.”

Malka will focus on creating a brick-and-mortar presence with shop-in-shops in stores like Bloomingdale’s and Harrods, and there are plans to open as many as five freestanding stores this year alone. Taking a note from Burberry, social media will also be a key factor in Halston’s revival as well as celebrity partnerships. “Halston was one of the pioneers of marrying fashion and celebrity. I value that enormously. Celebrities are incredible ambassadors and we will be making some thoughtful choices after market.”

For now, it certainly sounds like Halston is in good hands. Malka is running a tight ship that includes a heavily-detailed four-year plan and an employee manual that even dictates the font of email signatures. Only time will tell if he and his crew can do Roy justice, but Malka believes they’re certainly on the right track. ”I think if Halston were here today, he would be very pleased.” And so would Liza. UGH this is the worst January has looked in awhile, and it doesn’t even have to do with her being pregnant. The makeup and hair is god-awful -  it reminds me of girls in middle school trying too hard to look grown-up for the class photo. The Preen dress is the only element of this look that is halfway decent. This Mad Men star better step it up, as pregnancy is no excuse to look disheveled.

Lynn Hirschberg interviews Jones and discusses the similarities between Mad Men‘s Betty Draper and X-Men: First Class‘s Emma Frost, namely that they’re both ice-cold bitches.

Draper, it turns out, was not even in the original Mad Men pilot, but series creator Matthew Weiner wrote the part for Jones — who had auditioned for the role of scrappy plain Jane gal Friday, Peggy Olson — thus ensuring four seasons of great clothes and questionable acting.

Now, I have never considered myself a gentleman — usually a lady, more often a tramp — but in reading Ford’s “5 easy lessons on how to be a modern gentleman” for An0ther Magazine,  I realized that I’ll probably never be a gentleman. Not because I’m sartorially challenged, but mostly because I’m kind of an asshole.

1. You should put on the best version of yourself when you go out in the world because that is a show of respect to the other people around you.

Okay, I can support this first rule. I don’t actually respect anyone, though —  I just enjoy my version of self being noticeably better than everyone else’s.

2. A gentleman today has to work. People who do not work are so boring and are usually bored. You have to be passionate, you have to be engaged and you have to be contributing to the world.

I’m a Fashion Blogger, which I guess one could consider work. Sure, this “work” usually involves making snarky commentary on fashion, drinking at press events and keeping one step ahead of the feds, but, hey…it pays the bills.

3. Manners are very important and actually knowing when things are appropriate. I always open doors for women, I carry their coat, I make sure that they’re walking on the inside of the street. Stand up when people arrive at and leave the dinner table.

I mean, fuck that. I’m all for being polite and shit, but only to the point where it doesn’t inconvenience me in any way, shape or form. At the end of the day, though, Good Samaritan Laws exist for people like me — who’d sooner chew off their own arm then offer someone a seat on the subway.

4. Don’t be pretentious or racist or sexist or judge people by their background.

Yeah, okay, then why work in fashion? Next!

5. A man should never wear shorts in the city. Flip-flops and shorts in the city are never appropriate. Shorts should only be worn on the tennis court or on the beach.

Okay, I can definitely agree on the flip-flops, but I dare you to find me wearing a hem that falls below my upper thigh come early June. These gams are meant for public consumption, thank you. I do, however, completely object to board shorts, baggy jean shorts or any short that could be mistaken for pants.

I guess being a gentleman is more than just dressing the part and perhaps we can all take a page out of Tom Ford’s book of etiquette. But that would involve constantly striving to be a better person and I am just suh-WAMPED these days. I’ll consider opening doors for women but unless they intend to tip me…I do not hold coats.

My best dressed choice was tied between three different beautiful ladies, but Anne Hathaway stands just a bit above the other two in Armani Privé. For a tall beauty with perfect curves like this, a structured shoulder is the best thing you can do for your body. She looks so graceful and statuesque in these beautiful rose sequins.

The back is to die for. It’s provocative, feminine and lovely. Anyone else, I would have said the hair should be worn up, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with the way Anne looks. She is a goddess. She gets an A+.

Green was the color of the night, and no one wore it better than Angelina Jolie in Versace. Again, we’re seeing a beautiful padded shoulder that opens up the back and draws attention to her tiny waist. She looks glamorous without that “going to prom” nod that so many celebrities decided to do. I love the top to bottom sparkles and her elegant and unfussy hair. Grade A.

If you have a flat chest, a 1920s style dress like this is prefect for your body. Jayma Mays got it right in this elegant and sexy Alberta Ferretti plunging v-neck gown. Now let’s talk about a big chest. Scarlet Johansson has a gorgeous, very voluptuous rack, and this dress enhances in a different way. Instead of spilling her cleavage all over the red carpet, Scarjo chose this demure and elegant Elie Saab gown in a lovely dusty pink. It sparkles just the right amount, and the sleeve is extremely flattering. Plus, she had the best hair on the red carpet. A-

I commend Leighton Meester for trying to take fashion risks, but lately they’ve been backfiring hardcore. I was pleased to see her looking so elegant and sophisticated in Burberry Prorsum on the red carpet last night. Her makeup is absolutely gorgeous and those Jimmy Choo shoes are fab-o-rama. It’s not my favorite, but I do love the dress and her. B

I’m not used to putting Eva Longoria in the best dressed category for her red carpet looks, but she looked ravishing last night in a fitted, black Zac Posen gown. Here is the thing about Lea Michele‘s Oscar de la Renta gown: It does not photograph well. When watching her on the red carpet, she looked young, fresh and vibrant in this light salmon dress. It looks too consuming in photographs. But the color on her is amazing. I am so sick of this whispy, bull-shitty kind of up-do, so no points there. But the shoes, HELLO! B-

January Jones first fell in love the peekaboo dress in blue in the Versace Spring 2011 collection, but requested it in red. A mighty fine choice, Mrs. Draper.

Other newsstand winners included GQ‘s triptych August cover featuring funnymen Tracy Morgan, Paul Rudd and Zach Galifinakis; Esquire‘s March cover with Leonardo Dicaprio boozing it up proved a hit  as did their September issue with possibly gay James Franco; and Details‘s March issue with Twilight‘s dreamy vamp Robert Pattinson sunk its teeth into the market.

Readers, however, avoided Pattinson’s co-star Taylor Lautner‘s July GQ cover, proving that tweenage girls aren’t very gentlemanly; not very many people were mad about Mad Men‘s Jon Hamm‘s Details cover in October; and Javier Bardem‘s cigarette was the only thing smoking about his February cover of Esquire.

Men’s Journal deigned to put  Mel Gibson on their cover and paid the price since very few people were willing to pay for it. Next time, Men’s Journal, strip down that raging anti-Semite and give him a smoky eye, maybe then he’ll sell a few more copies.

First order of business, Jennifer Love-Hewitt is nominated for Best Actress – Miniseries or Made-for-TV Movie for The Client List. If you haven’t seen it, J. Love plays a suburban housewife who gets pulled into the seedy uderbelly of high-class whorin’, gets addicted to coke and loses her kids and husband, all while Cybil Shepard drunkenly yells at her. Dame Judi Dench ain’t got shit on that.

What really grinds my gears re: the Globes is their insistence on lumping the supporting actors into one category, so that Drama, Comedy and Mini-Series/TV Movies all compete against one another. Why not send the same message and just eliminate the supporting categories all together?

Despite the stiff competition, Glee‘s Chris Colfer and Jane Lynch (2nd year in a row) scored nominations. Lea Michele and Matthew Morrison also repeat their nominations from last year’s Globes, for Best Actress and Actor, respectively. The kids in New Directions will defend their Best Comedy crown against Modern Family, 30 Rock, The Big Bang Theory, The Big C and Nurse Jackie.

The rest of the nominees in the comedy categories are kind of a snooze, with just a repeat of what already took place at the Emmys months ago. Will Edie Falco (Nurse Jackie) and Jim Parsons (The Big Bang Theory) reprise their wins? Have I ever seen either of their shows. Do I even care at this point?

Here’s a hint, the answer to at least two of those questions is “Hell to the no.”

Far more interesting, much like the movie nominations, are the drama contenders. The Best Actor – Drama category is perhaps the most competitive this year, with Jon Hamm (Mad Men), Michael C. Hall (Dexter), Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad) and newcomer Steve Buscemi (Boardwalk Empire) vying for top honors. By this point, Hugh Laurie is the Meryl Streep of this category and would get nominated for taking a dump on his cane then curing cancer with it.

Elisabeth Moss earns a well-deserved nomination for Best Actress for Mad Men (no Supporting purgatory for her), and will face off against Julianna Margulies (The Good Wife), Piper Perabo (Covert Affairs), Katey Segal (Sons of Anarchy; meanwhile, I had no idea Peg Bundy was back on TV and I would like to put forth my vote for a Sons of Anarchy/Modern Family crossover episode) and Kyra Sedgwick (The Closer).

As for the Best Drama Globe, MVP Mad Men comes in with three previous wins but faces competition from fellow cable fare, Boardwalk Empire, Breaking Bad and Dexter, with The Good Wife as the only broadcast series represented.

We’ll find out who will win, lose or drink til they work up enough courage to talk to George Clooney on Sunday, January 16th, 2011.

The show started off with a Glee-themed fagtastic bang with Tina Fey, Jane Lynch, Jon Hamm and last living Golden Girl Betty White (some say she’s overexposed, but she’s 800 years old and could go any minute so I’ll take as much as I can, thank you) joining the Glee kids and Fallon for a cover of “Born to Run.” It was pretty much downhill from there, but it was a gentle and slow descent, made more comfortable by getting all the fun awards out early.

Proving that there is a god somewhere, Jane Lynch (woefully sans a pantsuit yet again) picked up the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy. Eric Stonestreet won a well-deserved Outstanding Supporting Actor for Modern Family, which also went home with the Outstanding Comedy Series trophy at the end of the night.

Edie Falco won her fourth Emmy, this time for Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. A controversial choice, perhaps, but Carmine Soprano literally shits Emmys . I’m holding out hope for Amy Poehler next year, though, that is if Parks and Rec makes it that long. And some guy from some show on CBS I will continue to ignore, I mean, Jim Parsons won Lead Actor.

My frequent nemesis January Jones might have lost to Kyra Sedgwick for Outstanding Lead Actress in  a Drama, but she won best dressed in my book, wearing a gorgeous Atelier Versace gown. Though I wish she had done her hair in a chignon and left the messy bed head hair to Cammy Diaz.

Aaron Paul -- Wrap him up, I'll take him to go.

Bryan Cranston picked up his third consecutive Emmy for Lead Actor for Breaking Bad and his hottie of a co-star Aaron Paul won for Supporting. Newcomer Archie Panjabi took home Outstanding Supporting Actress for The Good Wife. Then Mad Men sauntered off with the Outstanding Drama Series for the third year in a row.

Though Betty White and Neil Patrick Harris won for their guest starring roles on SNL and Glee, respectively, their trophies were handed out at the Shmemmys earlier, thus robbing us of what would surely have been a hot and heavy make-out session everyone…?…the gays…?…okay, that I have been anticipating since the nominees were announced.

That was one of a few disappointments in an otherwise — dare I say it? — great show. The awards, for the most part, went to the right people and I got to scream at Brittany Murphy and Rue McClanahan one more time during the In Memoriam slideshow. The fashion at the Emmys, however, left a lot to be desired.

The big theme of the night was Greek/Egyptian, with a lot of one shoulders, goddess gowns and geometric necklines, heavy on the jewelry and metallics.

The red carpet was a big snore, except for a few bright spots, such as Anna Paquin in Alexander McQueen and the aforementioned Betty Draper.

From what I’ve been reading, most people hate both of these looks, but that’s the price you pay for bringing high fashion to American TV sets.  There were, admittedly, some horrible missteps and yes I am looking at you Heidi Klum.

Hot tranny mess, working that tired drag for all its worth

The usually flawless supermodel and Emmy nominee (?) opted for a Marchesa mini. Meanwhile, if I never see another Marchesa gown on the red carpet I could die happy. The amazing Lauren Graham also faltered a bit in Yigal Azrouël, riding that damned Grecian theme straight into hell.

Is that bracelet bulletproof?

Lea Michele went overboard with the ruffles in Oscar de la Renta and her boobs always looked as if they were about to jump ship as well.

She should have taken a cue from co-star Dianna Argon who looked beautiful in  Carolina Herrera.

I would have liked the dress to be a little shorter, however, about mid-calf,  to play off a 50s silhouette. But, as the New Directions kids put it, you can’t always get what you want. Then again, at least Lea didn’t follow in the tranny footsteps of her other castmate, Naya Rivera, who apparently thought she was going to a quinceañera.

God bless her for trying.

While Reshma was at the studio she picked up a lot of fun dresses, shorts, cardigans, tanks, jewelry and handbags. We tried to find items with some fun pops of color.

We love those cozy cardigans from Moods of Norway because they are dressy but so comfortable. You can dress it up by wearing it with a little dress or pair it with a pair of jeans or shorts. bobi is an amazing brand with great price points. And shopthelook.net has amazing jewelry finds…. And Kipling has the coolest bags that are just well made and everyone always gets compliments on them and lastly Junk Food- Reshma has awesome taste she picked out a U2 Boy shirt from Junk Food… If you don’t own a Junk Food top run now and get one – they are so comfortable… I can live in them.

The British film An Education features incredible styles from the 1960s—very similar to what is seen on the show Mad Men. This has to be my all-time favorite time period in fashion and this movie represents it very well.

I absolutely loved this beige and pink dress that Carry Mulligan’s character, Jenny, wore in the movie.  I’d be thrilled to wear any of these costumes.

Mad Men mania is reaching new heights with the release of a collection of Barbie dolls inspired by the boozing, battling masters of advertising. The collection will include Don Draper, the show’s main man; his wife, Betty; his colleague at Sterling Cooper, Roger Sterling; and Joan Holloway, who spent a good amount of time under Roger as his mistress. Finally, a set of Barbies and Kens we know are fucking!!!

Well GQ it’s a step in the right direction actually having women in your magazine. For awhile there I thought you were turning into Details.For awhile I had no clue who the hell January Jones was, but I realized she’s the girl from Mad Men. Apparently I’m the only one in the world who doesn’t watch that show too. Terry Richardson did the shoot (can’t you tell), and while these are just the outtake, they don’t look half bad.

1. Gossip Girl- Given.

2. Sex And The City- We couldn’t decide which should’ve been first, but then again, Gossip Girl is like a younger version of Sex and the City…

3. Ugly Betty- Even though Betty is meant to be super cheesy and unfashionable, she actually wears a lot of designer stuff. And Amanda? Fabulous.

4. Marissa Cooper and Seth Cohen from the O.C.- Marissa may have had her problems, but that girl knew how to dress.  And Seth definitely popularized the whole ‘nerd/hipster’ thing…sorry Ryan, wife beaters aren’t exactly fashionable.

5. Silver from 90210- Can’t say I ever wore thigh-highs and heels to high school.

6. Kelly Bundy from Married With Children- Move over Kelly Kapowski, Christina Applegate is way hotter than you…or maybe just sluttier?

7. Addison Forbes-Montgomery from Private Practice- Oh you know, just another day at the office in my high-waisted skirt and adorable blouse

8. Swingtown- Check out that dude’s orange bell bottoms!

9. Mad Men- I really wish people still dressed like this, it’s so awesome.

10. Dahlia Malloy from the Riches- Definitely not how my mom dresses.

Yeah that’s right, there’s another youngster who will soon be making his mark on the fashion world. His name is Arlo Weiner, and his dad is no other than Matt Weiner, the man responsible for the ever so famous Mad Men. Little Arlo is just 8 years old, and says he plans on getting into designing as soon as his mother buys him a sewing machine.

Are you kidding? This kid totally rules. Though he isn’t always spot on with his looks, isn’t that what fashion is all about, trials and tribulations. So Arlo, start working on your sweet talk and start commenting on Tavi’s blog, who knows you two could become the mega couple that saves the fashion industry.

Laura Ramsey is definitly someone to keep your eye on in the up and coming. She is better known as Joy on the show Mad Men on AMC, but if you ask me she looks a little Taylor Momsen-esque (except you won’t feel like a pedophile for thinking she’s hot). She photographs every well, and with the increased success of Mad Men expect to see more and more of Miss. Ramsey!

Mad Men wasn’t already a great show, I would still watch it for the fashion. Costume designer Janie Bryant perfectly captures the era with her cinch-waist skirts, slim cut suits, bouncy curls and blood-red lipstick. It almost makes me want to switch my wardrobe for a 1960s revival…almost.

Lately, I’ve become obsessed with 1940′s style of dress. I’m guessing it’s cause the Mad Men posters are all over New York, or it may be because I am secretly a “t-shirt and jeans as fashion” hater, either reason, I was instantly hooked on these photos when I spotted them on the blog of self-taught photographer Joseph Bleu.

The make-up of the dapper man requires a few tricks to pull it off correctly…

1. Buy a blue suit. Black is too funeral/wedding. You can rock it alone or mix it with a pair of plaid, tweed, or camel slacks.

2. Pick up a few pairs of tweed pants. Find complimentary colors to the blue jacket of the suit. Skip the double and triple pleats and opt for a light weight fabric. The pants should fit a bit looser, the style is casual not constraint.

3. Grab a button down that fits. Don’t go over baggy, the idea is to look polished so it’s important to wear a fitted shirt that won’t add bulk to your look. White is always classic, but feel free to play around with patterns and colors. You’re goal should be to be a modern version of the classic dapper.

4. Skip the fat tie. Thin ties work best with this look, bow ties a close second.

5. Thin Long Shoes. Pointed toes are the necessity when attempting the dapper. Black works, but a deep brown is preferred.

6. Upgrade You. The little details will make all the difference when pulling off this look. Break out the cufflinks, add a pocket square, match the belt with the shoes, skip the tube socks, get the tie pin, have the pocket watch, rock the fedora. The details will take prep to dapper in seconds so add them wisely.

7. Speak Like You Have Some Sense. While this look brings with it a silent knowledge, the better spoken you are the more likely folks will think you’re style is more than just a surface thing. Nothing is more stylish than someone who is well versed so skip the magazines and complete this intellectual look with a copy of Hemingway or Steinbeck. Also, this look doesn’t go well with a can of Pabst. Discover a couple of the great standards like a Rob Roy or a Gin & Tonic.
