Vogue’s July issue features coverage of the The Costume Institute’s Ball, of which Oprah is co-chair. The article opens with a two-page spread of Oprah and Gaga, featured here, as photographed by Mario Testino. Sadly, this scan is doing this two-page spread no justice. And not for nothing but Oprah’s makeup (by Derrick Rutledge) and boobs (from good eating?)are amaaaaazing! She’s wearing Oscar de la Renta and Lady Gaga is wearing Prada. Via Gagalicious.

Seems like iPad’s plan to be the future of magazines isn’t panning out as well as hoped. New rulings by Apple banning explicit body parts on their device and a strict No Porn app store is leaving a lot of high-end fashion magazines wondering if they’ll ever migrate. So much of fashion revolves around nudity that magazines like French Vogue and Vice are being forced to edit content for digital readers. I guess censorship is the new black…

Great video on NY Times about the lies of photoshop. Would you guys buy magazines if photoshop was illegal and you could see what people really look like? Just wondering…

My hometown(ish) newspaper, The Washington Post has just launched glossy magazine FW, or Fashion Washington.

While the new monthly is obviously not an independent publication, they’ll certainly spotlight some of the blossoming designers and boutiques in the area.  On their website FW promises to its readers

the increasingly stylish scene here, from trend-setting diplomats and star-studded parties to fab jewelry lines and store openings. On its pages you’ll not only see the hottest, prettiest new styles, you’ll also read about the fascinating cast of characters — designers, shop owners and famous faces — making D.C. a hip place to be.

FW isn’t yet available to all subscribers, but dozens of D.C.-area boutiques, hotels, and salons will have free copies. The debut issue, released today, is available online in PDF.
