Lilac has been seen popping up in many designers ready-to-wear lines for spring 2010. Designers like Isaac Mizrahi, Zac Posen, Cynthia Rowley, and Marchesa have all incorporated various shades of this purple color into their latest collections. We saw this hue start to emerge last spring, even appearing in the form of lipstick, but I definitely think you’re going to be seeing a whole lot more of it next year.

Sorry to those of you who dislike any and all things purple, but it seems as if it’s here to stay a little longer.

RUNWAY RUNDOWN: Awe...Marchesa S/S 10 emerging fashion

This is the collection that I have been waiting for…….I knew that it would be spectacular, but the ladies have managed to take things beyond my expectations! Marchesa was a favorite of mine from day one. Their beautiful gowns and dresses have that “old Hollywood glamour vibe.” Each and every one is this collection is stunning. The fabulous lace, bows and laser cut details are immaculate. If you’re seeking a “head-turner,” this is the collection that has them all!

Georgina Chapman leapt from ancient China to the lush exoticism of Madame Butterfly this time out, still taking her cues from the Far East yet showing even greater ambition in her craftsmanship. “I wanted to [capture] the real look of Japan, create layers and bits of origami,” Chapman said at her presentation, which opened with an elegant duchesse satin “obi coat,” hand-painted — a first for the designer — in black-and-white leaves.

While origami pleating wound its way into many of the gowns via stiff tulle and crepe overlay, the motif was quite literal on a series of black matte crepe dresses and a brilliant pale pink gown, each bodice piled with white origami flowers (also handmade). Using horsehair to sculpt her signature swirling, curling dresses, Chapman lightened the palette for spring — minty green and violet — and showed her hand at embroidery, splaying draped shoulders and cascading satin skirts with silver crystal leaves. Chapman indulges in fantasy, yes, but her technical skills are clearly real, and the impact was both powerful and mesmerizing.

Models At The Met

Models At The Met all indieBeing exposed, first hand, to all the glorious fashions from runway shows and editorials, one would think that models would steal the the best dressed award on last night’s Met Gala red carpet. While Chanel Iman, in her stunning Zac Posen dress, was a show stopping attendee, Shalom Harlow looked rather homeless and out of place in her crumpled, Gareth Pugh-ish garbage bag. Brooke Shields looked like a mermaid body builder. Agyness Deyn was an over-bronzed transvestite. Brooklyn Decker rocked out a Mary-Kate worthy outfit. All in all, the model fashion was skewed across the board. Tsk tsk…I expected big things from such fashion relatives.

Swoon!  Diane Kruger (with the better-with-age Joshua Jackson) hit up the 6th Annual New Yorkers for Children Spring Dinner Dance Thursday night.

Diane looked adorable (and appropriate for the event’s springtime theme) in her silk dress from Marchesa Fall 2009, an Alexander McQueen clutch, and Fendi pumps.

We all anticipated the return of Gossip Girl, and with it the fashions. Monday night’s episode brought us two amazing Marchesa gowns from Fall o8

Leighton wore a high collared gown had ruffled details on the shoulders, and 3/4 of the skirt, with a charming brooch completing the look.

WTF!?! Taylor Momsen moments of style

Did I really try to defend her the other day?

Debbie Harry wannabe Taylor Momsen hit up the amfAR New York City Gala at Cipriani Thursday night.

Her mint Marchesa gown was a bit ill-fitting, but mostly her hair is a disaster, and her make-up is way too harsh.

Love this look, the lace black one-shouldered Marchesa Spring 2009 dress hides a bit of Reese’s figure, but the hair and makeup are gorgeous.
