The 2012 SAG Awards took place last night, and our applause goes out to all the big winners. As always, we were super excited to see what everyone was wearing on the red carpet from the couture dresses to the 6-inch high stiletto platforms. Just when you thought it was safe to turn on your TV, Project Runway has spawned a secondary series, Project Runway All Stars. While the 10th season of boring, regular PJ Runway starts in June with Heidi Klum, Michael Kors, Nina Garcia and Tim Gunn stepping into their well-worn shoes, PJ Runway All Stars debuts January 5 with new but fashionably familiar faces.

Drop the waist low, fringe it forward, jazz it art deco and you’ve got Gucci Spring 2012. Frida Giannini turned out 20s in Milan, and she was not the only designer to do so this fashion week – think Marchesa, Temperley London, Carolina Herrera and others. However, in a remarkable coincidence (?) in which Giannini insists she was merely musing over NY skyscrapers of that time period, it also happens to be Gucci’s 90th birthday (bust out those calculators, ladies). Spring 2012 is blooming before our very eyes as trends fall in fringe, sprout like flowers and actively kick it into hyperspeed. Designers from New York and London are on a wavelength that transcends oceans, and that frequency is tickling our future wardrobes with trends we love.

Awards season is upon us, which brings us to this very special edition of Red Carpet Report Card. We will look at the best and worst dressed at last night’s 2011 Emmy Awards, so let’s start with the ladies that worked the hardest. Pretty much everyone failed to impress me last night, but these looks stood out above the rest.

How do you solve a problem like Halston? Once the de rigeur designer of the haute fabulous set — Bianca Jagger, Liza Minnelli, Jackie Kennedy, Babe Paley, Lauren Hutton, Liz Taylor; we’re talking Glamour here — the company faltered in the early 80s with the ousting of Roy Halston. Roy, too high on caviar wishes and cocaine dreams, had sold equity in his company in 1973 and was fired in 1984 only to die of AIDS-related complications in 1990. Numerous attempts to revive the brand faltered over the last two decades with the latest manicured finger of blame being pointed dramatically at Carrie Bradshaw.
