Still Every Woman: Happy Birthday Chaka Khan!

Edited by

Just when I thought this day was going down the crapper, it came to my attention that today is a holiday. 59 years ago, Yvette Marie Stevens, a mass of hair and sass, stormed into this world, wailing on key and in full voice. Better known to the world as the legendary Chaka Khan, a diva’s birthday is always a reason to celebrate. And as the Lady Khan is my favorite singer of all time, I felt it appropriate to share my 10 favorite Chaka tracks to commemorate this — a high holy day.

Vogue Italia Takes a Page Out of the Joan Rivers Playbook

Edited by

QVC and HSN, once the domain of Marie Osmond‘s creepy fetishistic dolls and the legendary Joan Rivers Classics Collection has gotten a recent injection of diva with Mary J. Blige, Jennifer Lopez and Mariah Carey taking to the air to hock their perfumes, clothing lines and pregnancy stories. For its first issue of the year, Vogue Italia, perhaps sensing a trend, tapped Steven Meisel and Karl Templer for this brilliant send-up of the home shopping networks featuring leggy ladies Joan Smalls, Karlie Kloss, Sigrid Agren, Caroline Trentini, Gertrud HegelundDaria Strokous and Natasha Poly. And if that weren’t enough to get your collective hearts beating in anticipation, there’s a…video. Listen closely and you can almost here Joan screaming from beyond (L.A.) about the only things these skinny bitches are eating up is her goddamn screentime. Video and gallery after the jump!

BROADCAST: December TV Catch-Up

Edited by

Turns out it’s been a good month for TV. Admittedly, I don’t have cable in my apartment, so the only reference I’ll understand is the Glee/Adele mashup at regionals because I made the bar I was at change channels. I should probably just get one of those sweet DIRECTV deals, to be a good blogger and know what’s happening to all of the Kardashians, and Snooki (is that still going on?), and the Real Housewives of Wherever. But until I do, here’s what I’m kind of sad I missed in 2011 by not having DirecTV (and only know because of FashionIndie).

Mary J. Blige Sings and Sells Out Scents on HSN

Edited by

I don’t know when the Home Shopping Network became diva grand central, but it’s been racking up more celebrity appearances than late night TV. And now they even have musical performances! This from a network once only known for Marie Osmond‘s creepy doll collection. Noted grown-ass woman Mary J. Blige stopped by HSN to hock her holiday gift sets, featuring her first fragrance “My Life” and her latest, “My Life Blossom” — both of which sold out — and to perform hits from her classic debut album, My Life and her latest…My Life II: The Journey Continues (Act 1). In case you didn’t get the memo, this is MJB’s “Life” and we’re all just living in it.

RED CARPET REPORT CARD: 2011 American Music Awards

Edited by

To my surprise as I sleepily browsed my Twitter feed this morning, the 2011 American Music Awards were on last night. I couldn’t care less about the crappy music being awarded, so I immediately searched for disappointing red carpet photos. And to neither my nor anyone’s surprise, I found some pretty disappointing red carpet photos. But what’s an awards show without a Red Carpet Report Card commentary? Check out the gallery below of the best, worst and most snooze-worthy looks from last night.
