Jay and Ye H.A.M. It Up at MOMA’s Garden Party

The Museum of Modern Art’s annual Party in the Garden went down last night with considerable help from gentlemen about town/rap superstars Kanye West and Jay Z.

The MOMa’s Garden Party benefits the museum’s Annual Fund and the maintenance of The Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Sculpture Garden and last night’s attendees were of an appropriately distinguished lot.

But for every Mayor Michael Bloomberg or Larry Gagosian there was a Chloë Sevigny or Aziz Ansari who perhaps didn’t come for the dinner (with tables going for $25,000 to $100,000, who could blame them?) but for the after-party at the museum’s Terrace 5 Lounge.

The line for that party stretched down 54th St — filled with people who didn’t cough up the $500 for VIP tix, no doubt — and by the time Kanye took the stage at 11-ish, there were an extra 1500 guests ready to rap-sing along to their favorite tunes.

His set, a little over an hour, was punctuated by Jay-Z who was apparently granted permission to leave the penthouse from wifey, Beyoncé. Jay then ordered the crowd to go H.AM. — and if you’re as out-of touch with today’s hippity-hop as I am, that means “Hard As A Motherfucker. “

If only I could’ve seen Mayor Bloomberg fucking shit up with Chloë and Aziz, my life would be complete. [WWD]

NYC’s Mayor is a Fashion Fanatic

Thank you, Mayor Bloomberg of NYC. For your strong commitment to fashion, and for occasionally looking like a frog in a bow tie.

Bloomberg said he’s strongly committed to preserving NYC as a fashion capital of the world at yesterday’s WWD CEO Summit.

In fact, he rolled out a six-part plan to ensure the city’s $55 billion dollar industry stays strong. Bloomberg is focusing on young talent in particular.

“The fashion industry has several programs that recognize and reward creative talent [but they] overlook rising stars working in business related functions,” said Bloomberg.

Hey, Bloomberg. Can you, uh, hook a brother up with his own menswear line? (I promise no more frog jokes.)

Ralph Lauren Got a Key to the City AND an “I Heart NY” Keychain from Mayor Bloomberg

I’ve always thought that Ralph Lauren was a handsome, and very cute, man, and now Mayor Bloomberg went and did something so precious. Not only did he give Lauren a Key to the City, but he gave it to him on a blue “I Heart NY” keychain.

The Key was presented last night at the opening of Ralph Lauren‘s new women’s flagship store in New York.

I hope you enjoyed the free booze and food, as well as the celebrity appearances, crowded street, long lines and discounts, because Anna Wintour and Mayor Bloomberg recently confirmed that another Fashion’s Night Out is in our midst. Call me crazy, but I saw little to no people walking around with shopping bags, so how on earth was this event successful for New York City or the fashion industry? But hey, nobody is complaining about another round of free drinks!

Money Making Scheme Or Environmental Protection Plan?

The next time you go shopping on 5th Avenue, pay attention to which stores stuff your new goodies in plastic bags…oh, and prepare to toss a few nickels for the bags while you’re at it. Thanks to Mayor Bloomberg and Friday’s budget announcement, there will be a five-cent tax on all plastic bags in New York City. Estimated to raise $100 million for the city, I’m starting to wonder if this tax is a “fundraiser” for the Big Apple or simply a reason for people to reduce, reuse and recycle. The five-cents you’ll toss at the cashier may seem like chump change, but the cost certainly adds up for something you’ll end up throwing away sooner or later. So, my fellow New Yorkers, I suggest you invest in a dozen of those reusable shopping bags…they’ll last longer than a plastic bag, will cost you less in the long run and reduce the amount of plastic floating around. Kill two birds with one stone without a bird actually dying from plastic bag suffocation…

Well, NY Daily News has named Anna Wintour #1 on it’s Fashion’s 50 most powerful list AS IF any of you were thinking it was Tyra Banks and her lace front wig. I just think with all that power and strength she wields, couldn’t she threaten some stylist life to give her a new do? I mean that bob is sooooo dead, crows are starting to peck at it, now it’s got the rigormortis. She also needs a personality coach for that cunty, crabcake disposition……….and some nourishment for them brittle bones. How in the British Invasioned Hail did a crumpet poppin’, tea sipper become the ruler in American fashiondom?

There are more dictators and creative oppressive figures…………it’s like a to-do list for a fashion purist with a high powered assassins rifle and free time!
