Sarah Burton presented McQ, Alexander McQueen‘s diffusion line, during London Fashion Week. It was McQ’s first show since 2006 and featured 50s silhouettes, military influences and the requisite McQueen tartan print. Another gorgeous collection under Burton’s belt, no? Gasp away, kids.

The Dish on Thanksgiving Feast Fashion

Time is a-ticking closer to the one day a year when it is socially appropriate to stuff our faces and gorge our bodies with salty, buttery, meaty, buttery, delicious, salty, carbaceous foodstuffs. The spread is beautiful but the aftermath is less so; the words “bloated” and “food baby” come to mind. Which is why you need a specific kind of outfit to cope with such matters. Here are some options for hiding the tummy stretch that happens on Thanksgiving. Or make like present-day Karl Lagerfeld and his bevy of models and just smell the food…

Kill two birds with one stone with this method. Stretch pants will allow for slight expansion, as your turkey baby grows inside of you. Wild patterns will camouflage any food that lands astray as your tripping on tryptophan.

The name of the game is Slouch. Find something with a wide set body that tszujes at the sleeves. This way you're totally concealed from the bloat. Or from a baby for that matter. With these, I recommend a pair of leggings, so at least part of the body is slim.

Some extra fabrication will conceal any bloat you incur from the lavish spread before you. Pleats expand and contract without much notice.

This might look similar to the pleating concept, but I assure you, there's a difference. With this, we advise you find a skirt with an elastic band and gathers at the waist. It's not that you're going to get fat over one gigantic meal, but between the salt, the all-American butter and that the majority of your day will be dedicated to eating, you're going to want some wiggle room.

There are three occasions I look forward to, in terms of getting dressed. First and foremost, is my annual gaycation to Provincetown, during which the booty shorts cum denim panties too risqué for even Chelsea and the sequined leggings too “say-something” for a work look are paraded about on a daily basis. More recently, I’ve gotten into Halloween just for another excuse to wear a heel. And then of course, there is Fashion Week. It’s a battlefield out there; survival of the chicest. The ante has been further upped by the explosion of photoseekers running around, snapping pics of the best-dressed stomping in and out of shows. How did you approach designing the Target collection differently from your McQ line?

Well it is actually not so far away from how I design the McQ collection; I started with a feeling, a girl and her spirit, and ran with it. There are elements which are naturally “me” which stayed the same, the design details and the edge, for example.

But it was just announced that the collection will actually debut (barring the typical early appearances on target.com) at a two-day Manhattan preview, starting February 14, at 330 West Street.

Priced from $20-130, the collection is the tamer side of McQueen — structured pieces with a slight edge (short black trench, studded leather vest, zipper leggings).
