In a sleek store that feels like Calvin Klein went to a festival (think stark white with a glow stick explosion), sits a display of plastic. Plastic molded into shoes. Shoes by some of our favorite designers of all time. Gareth Pugh, Jason Wu and Vivienne Westwood are some of the latest designers to team up with Melissa to create a line of shoes that embody their aesthetic at a price point we mere mortals can afford. Melissa has been jellying shoes in Brazil since 1979, and just opened their first U.S. store in SoHo three weeks ago. We took a look around at the baller collabs and the trippy vibes that reverberate within the shop.

The Design Museum has nominated the Duchess of Cambridge’s Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen royal wedding dress for its Design of the Year award, along with the 2012 Olympic torch and the Metropolitan Museum of Art‘s Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty exhibit.

COLLAB HO: Karim Rashid x Melissa Shoes

I can’t say that I’m the biggest fan of the Karim Rashid x Melissa curved wedge heel, but there is something about the futuristic design that is a bit appealing. I don’t like the color pink or the cheap looking flocking texture, but I would probably like these shoes if they were done in a black rubber or all leather. On second thought, these shoes remind me of those jelly shoes that went out of style in the 1980′s. I think i’ll take a pass.
