In 2007 Conde Nast decided to start Portfolio, a men’s fashion magazine (possibly in preparation for the fall of Men’s Vogue?), and when they decided to fold Men’s Vogue in 2008, they sent their subscribers a notice saying they would no be receiving Portfolio.

Just kidding, Portfolio drowned, you’ll now be receiving GQ. Because it wouldn’t have made sense to just replace Men’s Vogue with GQ in the first place instead of starting up a new magazine after the exact same one failed (well, under a different name, of course)…no sense at all.

Color-blindness, erectile disfunction and prostate cancer may be looming in years to come, but at least our boys can sleep soundly knowing that Men’s Vogue isn’t folding! I’m not exactly sure the source of these rumors, but lately, they’ve been aimed at Condé Nast, especially Vogue and its affiliates. Yesterday, a spokesperson for the the magazine said that they will not stop publishing in 2009 and that the anticipated magazines will hit the shelves as usual: “There is no change to our plans from what we said at the end of last year. We will put out two Men’s Vogue in ’09.”

There you have it! Men’s Vogue may not be abundant in year, but at least my dad will shut up about not knowing what to wear twice this year!

I was flipping through old issues of i-D, Dazed and Confused and Men’s Vogue while I was home in Buffalo over the holiday weekend. I knew I spotted a trend among male models, but it didn’t hit me until I saw Cole Mohr on the Marc by Marc Jacobs billboard in SoHo one last time…

The Trend: baby-faced, skinny, tattooed, pierced, punk rocking models who look like they just got kicked out of the high school homecoming dance for reeking of cheap beer. Bingo. 

Punk boys have been all over the editorials and up and down the runways recently. I absolutely love the awkward, but adorable, high school dropout look…and It looks like I’m not the only one! With Marc Jacobs and Hedi Slimane as avid fans of this look, it seems that the baby-faced punks will be scoring high fashion editorials and shows for years to come. But sorry ladies, just because you look like a prepubescent rocker doesn’t mean your gauged ears and inked arms are fully acceptable in the high fashion industry. It’s unfair, I know…but that’s just the way it is.

Now don’t jump the gun and start sending in your applications to replace Anna Wintour (sorry folks, that’s my job!) but the queen bee of Vogue may, in fact, be retiring! With her contract at Condé Nast on the verge of expiration, several failing aspects of the Vogue corporation to remedy, lagging sales and an economic collapse just waiting to happen, this may be the perfect opportunity for the 59 year old fashion goddess to call it quits. Let’s face the music, Fashion Rocks is no longer and Men’s Vogue is down to two issues per year…if Wintour doesn’t know how to fix these problems, maybe it wouldn’t be a bad idea to give someone else a shot. I love you Anna, don’t get me wrong, but let’s get some fresh, young blood in there. Perhaps try this girl named Kirby…I know how you can get in contact with her.

This whole economic crisis sure is good for trees and online news! The Huffington Post is reporting that Men’s Vogue is the latest magazine to fold.

Men’s Vogue commissioned renowned famed graphic designer Michael Bierut to design this patriotic lapel pin, which members of both political parties can wear into the voting booth and beyond.

All proceeds benefit Dog Tags, a new initiative of the charity Puppies Behind Bars. The program matches trained dogs with Iraq and Afghanistan war veterans who are physically injured or suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.
