Meet Mia Morgan, Fashion Stylist & Judge of the DOTS Styling Contest

Edited by

Mia Morgan has been working in the fashion industry for 25 years, so she is no stranger to making people look amazing. On February 15, she is joining Lookbooks, FashionIndie and The King Collective and DOTS for a fashion week party like no other. Mia will be hosting and judging the Fashion Alchemist styling contest where participants will use clothing from DOTS to create unique looks. I had a chance to catch up with Mia and talk to her about her career, New York City and what she is looking for in the winning look.

Float on Clouds of Rainbow Chiffon with Tadashi Shoji’s Fall 2011 Collection

Edited by

Greeted by a wall of blue sky and white clouds at the Tadashi Shoji fall 2011 show at Lincoln Center yesterday, it was obvious to see the designer’s inspiration came from the harmony of nature. Rock formations, the warping of branches and moss and the tranquility of water came through in flowing chiffon, twisting fabric and appliques used to architecturally build-out delicate silhouettes. Tadashi’s collections never lack the lovely gowns that will make any girl feel like a princess, and yards of lace, mesh and feathers carried observers on a cloud of elegant rainbow colors. Johnny Weir sat front row in a packed room, and models walked to up-beat pop music that brought the flowing fabric to life.

It Was All In The Details At Victor de Souza

Edited by

Inspired by imperial India during the winter, Victor de Souza used intricate embellishments and brilliant colors to create a collection vibrant enough for any season of the year. Garment backs were just as interesting as the fronts, creating looks bound to make any elegant lady the center of attention at all times. For lovers of timeless fashion, the lace elbow-length gloves in vivid hues could make you sing like Rosemary Clooney in White Christmas. The slightly gritty feel of Exit Art made it a perfect venue for the eccentric crowd and avant-garde-minded design. Models strutted in the always exceptionally constructed shoes from United Nude while makeup by Napoleon Perdis looked eerie and otherworldly. I think Souza has something with the cheerful, yet slightly mysterious, outlook for fall; we have not seen the last of it.

Gary Graham Volumized for Fall With Layers and Textures

Edited by

Inspired by Joseph Campbell’s book Hero with a Thousand Faces, Gary Graham divided the journey of the classic hero into three different phases: Departure, Initiation and Return. The garments from his fall/winter 2011 collection act as characters who subscribe to the journey through the phases. Models with black 80s rock’n'roll mullets walked through a crooked door into the hazy room and onto a homemade wooden plank covered in layers of wool-batik prints, hand knits reminiscent of Ukrainian shepherds and striped athletic socks. Garments were shown multiple times but presented with piles of different layers to demonstrate the versatility and wearability of the collection during a season when temperatures can be spastic.

All Eye Masks Are Not Created Equal – Branché Knows Best

Edited by

I love the idea of eye masks because I need a room to be pitch black before I can fall asleep. Unfortunately, I haven’t found an eye mask I like – they are either too tight, too small or too scratchy on the skin. Yesterday, two Branché Belle du Nuit Eye Masques arrived to the office. We were skeptical at first, but Jessica and I decided to give them a try.
