SOURCE:Angelina Jolie Covers Stylist Magazine
Angelina Jolie was in Cancun last month to promote her movie Salt, and while there she made time for an interview with the British fashion publication Stylist. Her kids Shiloh, Maddox, Pax, and Zahara also made the trip to Mexico, and they later joined her for the rest of her worldwide press tour. The family is now in Northern California for a few weeks as Brad Pitt works on Moneyball. Angelina spoke to the magazine about her family life, how she and Brad manage to fit in alone time, and Shiloh’s much-discussed style. She said:
On date nights and alone time with Brad:
“Yeah, we just have
to schedule it. We don’t normally have anyone spend the night with our
family, so once every week or two weeks, we’ll ask somebody to spend the
night, so we can go and be alone together. We just go to another part
of the house and lock the door. We have date nights, absolutely, you
have to if you have children! Sometimes we go out, but we both miss the
kids so we don’t like to go far.”
On Shiloh’s style:
“It’s not my choice. I have a very strong
willed four-year-old girl who tells me what she wants to wear and I let
her be who she is. People look at kids and think they should wear
certain types of clothes; I think children should wear what they want
and express themselves, so we give them different options of things.
Zahara dresses very much like a girl, very pink and flowery, very
feminine. Shiloh cried and said, ‘Please cut my hair off, I don’t want
to have long hair.’ I’m not going to leave it long because somebody
thinks I should,” she says “I want to do what’s in her head and what’s
in her heart is to dress like that. I think it’s beautiful.”
On meeting Brad during Mr. and Mrs. Smith:
“It didn’t begin
on the film set; we became friends on the film set, but it began after.
And at a certain age, having gone through enough experiences, I think
you know. It wasn’t courageous, it was more comforting to have found my
family.”
On learning from her kids:
“They’re so knowledgeable, so
self-aware, gracious. And they’re all different. One of them is a
natural leader and has this kind of strength, and one of them has
extraordinary grace and elegance and femininity that I didn’t realize
you could be born with. Like every mother, I’m learning patience and all
these wonderful things from them and I’m just so curious to see who
they’re going to be when they get older.”

Three weeks ago, as a result of the backlash towards the Mexico inspired M.A.C + Rodarte makeup collection, M.A.C announced that they will donate part of the earnings to charity. But this wasn’t going to be the end of it.
Last Friday M.A.C announced that all of global earnings from the collection will go towards charity – a newly founded Women and Girls of Juarez Initiative.
Also, the collection products’ names will be changed and all of it’s marketing material will be redesigned.
Says M.A.C President John Demsey, “We are deeply sorry and apologize to everyone we offended, especially the victims, the women and girls of Juarez and their families. We have heard the response of concerned global citizens loud and clear and are doing our very best to right our wrong. The essence of M·A·C is to give back and care for the community and our initial handling of this makeup collection was not reflective of M·A·C’s values. M·A·C and Rodarte are committed to using these learnings to raise awareness on this important issue and to leverage our unique platform to help the women and girls of Juarez.”
Say Kate and Laura Mulleavy, designers of Rodarte, “Rodarte is committed to using creativity for positive social change. As designers, we strongly feel it is our responsibility to use ideas and actions for the good of our global community and are truly sorry for the offense we have caused. We are raising our voices in support of the strong women and girls of Juarez and joining others who are working internationally to improve their lives.”

Currently packing for a friend’s wedding on Long Island this weekend, so I thought I might share some of the more unglamorous essentials that I can’t live without when I travel:
Safety pins – If you don't have a bag of at least 50 at your disposal at this moment, go out at buy a giant bag right now. Do it! The last thing you want to do when you're running late and suddenly discover the pivotal piece of the only nice outfit you packed is losing a button or a hook-and-eye closure, is struggle with a needle and thread: enter safety pin.
Static Guard – Equally effective on the obvious clingy fabric issue and not-so-obvious hair frizz. I don’t usually use a product to control fly-aways, so this is nice to have when traveling to a different climate that might have an adverse effect on my hair (ex: arid places like New Mexico turn my head into a lightning ball).
Shout Wipes – I tend to spill on myself (a lot).
Lint brush – The old-fashioned red-faced ones, not the crappy masking tape rollers. Not only do they last forever and work wonders on the obvious lint removal, they are also the absolute best tool for removing deodorant from clothing (no water required!).
Travel steamer – Wrinkle releaser is all well and good for cotton, but likely to stain more delicate fabrics, and I have yet to get the “shower steam” method to work in a timely or effective manner. The steamer is key for traveling with silks and satins. I have this one and it’s served me well (think I originally found it on Overstock). I’m sure there are nicer ones out there, so feel free to share any recommendations
