#NYFW Cheat Sheet: Costello Tagliapietra

On the second floor of MILK Studios (the oft preferred alternative to Lincoln Center), newlyweds Jeffrey Costello and Robert Tagliapetra showed their Fall 2012 collection in a rush of coral reef-like prints and soothing colored draping. Having been together 17 years, their marriage didn’t change anything too drastically. In fact, the were in love before they went into business. In such happiness, they also give back to Mama Earth by using AirDye  to color their fabrics; they don’t use water, which typically harbors toxins and releases them into water sources. Wich such positivity in their world, Jeffery’s watercolor paintings of chrysanthemums blossomed into a Costello Tagliapietra collection that delights.

Coco Rocha and Behati Prinsloo Write Heartfelt “Letters to Haiti”

Karlie Kloss, Zac Posen, Hilary Rhoda, Jeremy Scott, Rebecca Minkoff and a flock of fashionable friends joined professional poser Coco Rocha and Victoria’s Secret Angel Behati Prinsloo at Milk Gallery last night to commemorate the premiere of the documentary, Letters to Haiti. Directed by Coco’s husband, James Conran, the film chronicles their recent trip to Haiti and explores how children on the island nation are coping in the aftermath of last year’s devastating earthquake. In addition to the film, Behati’s portraits from the trip were on exhibit and guests were invited to bid on them to benefit the charity LakayPAM.

INDIE ON THE TOWN: 2011 GMHC Fashion Forward and Milk Gallery Underground

Thursday, November 17, 2011 — Last night, we dolled up for the Gay Men’s Health Crisis annual Fashion Forward charity event at the Metropolitan Pavilion with hosts Tracee Ellis Ross and Brad Goreski. Guests included CFDA Fashion Fund winner Joseph Altuzarra, silver foxes Mike Ruiz and Thom Browne, models Andrej Pejic and Jenny Shimizu and blogger/gal about town Bryanboy. Then we sturtted on over to Milk Studios for their biannual group show of artists, Milk Gallery Underground, featuring work by over 70 artists from around the world including model Marcel Castenmiller. Fresh from walking the runway at Fashion Forward, superhunk Rob Evans also stopped by Milk for some art appreciation. Photos after the jump!

Nicki Minaj’s Harajuku Barbie Returns at NYFW

Nicki Minaj perched in the front row at the Prabal Gurung show and showed up in this clothing cocktail.  From her Shojono Tomo printed leggings to that big ass pink bow atop her head, fashion girls and gays alike were singing her praises for bringing her Harajuku Barbie days back.  Now it is clear that you can get away with just about any outfit when Fashion Week rolls into town, but it definitely takes some guts to pull it off.  Would you wear something like this to an NYFW event?

Fashion Wars: Lincoln Center v. Milk Studios

Ever since Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week moved from the tents at Bryant Park to the metaphorical tents at Lincoln Center, more and more designers have opted instead of external sites to hold their fashion shows. One of the most popular venues, Milk Studios, is now in direct competition with Lincoln Center for both sponsors and designers.
