RUNWAY: Missoni Spring 2010

Missoni has always had that bohemian vibe, but if Angela Missoni ever made it more evident, it would definitely be in her Spring 2010 collection. It goes without saying that garments were exceptionally looser this season. Loose knits and gauze were essential fabrics, wrapped, draped and twisted into numerous Eastern European looks. But I must say, I think the collection looks far better in the neutral beiges and grays than the blues and pinks!

FIRST LOOK: Hanne Gaby Odiele for Missoni Fall ‘09 by Ryan McGinley

Call me biased, Ryan McGinley is one of my favorite photographers, but this ad is amazing. The sense of motion successfully highlights the fluid nature of the clothing and the outdoor pick up truck is a refreshing change from the over played white studio walls. It’s great that the fashion world is embracing a photographer with a down to earth aesthetic.

RUNWAY RUNDOWN: Missoni Resort ‘10

This collection makes me ache to go on a vacation in the Far East: the bags allow for hand’s free ease, the loose cut of the fabric would be so cool and comfortable, and the muted colors would help one not stand out of a crowd and look like a total tourist. Can you tell I love this vacations (and Missoni)? SOURCE: Fashion 156
FIRST LOOK: Missoni Resort 2010 Collection

There’s something about the geometric and angular patterns of Missoni that I’m usually not fond of. Maybe it’s the fact that wearers tend to look old in their garments or maybe it’s just the idea of being covered with an obnoxious pattern, but I tend to steer clear of this label. Changing my mind completely, however, is Missoni’s Resort 2010 collection, bringing back boho chic in all of its hippie glory. I absolutley love the baggy overcoats and vests matched to the pants and waist bags. The collection’s color scheme is spot on, the taupes, greys, blues and light oranges, all pastels, toning down the strict patterns and creating some unique, yet safe, looks. Though I’m not much of a matchy person, I love how elegant the pieces look when matched, color or pattern wise, to one another.

Speaking of H&M…Missoni To Do Collaboration?

Oy viegh! Another one? Angela Missoni, chief designer behind the zigs, the zags and the knits, was rumored to have said that she “would like to do something with H&M because it is a very powerful way to reach younger girls now.” But before you lose bladder control, let it be known that this quote remains sourceless and with the release of the Matthew Williamson for H&M collection tomorrow, a collaboration like this probably wouldn’t hit shelves for at least a year. And I hate to break it to you, but I highly doubt the zig-zag pattern will translate well on cheap cotton garments.
Thanks Pipeline!
WTF!?! Hannah Montana #fashionfail

Since the new Hannah Montana movie made $34 million at the box office, it’s safe to say that her fan base of sugar high, musty young girls and horny, greasy palmed, lurkin’n'lonely old men couldn’t have given a hot colonic about the tragedy she unleashed at the actual premiere. There’s a stylist somewhere that deserves a glass of hot piss to the face for makig a lovely girl look like Penthouse ‘Hoe Dealin Of The Month’. Now no one told me Hannah Montana was going into porn! I mean, is this a showing for a Disney film or did we make a wrong turn and end up at a Jenna Jameson 4 hour featurette. I bet that dress comes with secret pocket filled with complimentary birth control snackin pills and flavored sugar free sexin rubbers. I mean it’s a Missoni, so I guess I should like it but for some reason I have the strong urge to tear up my mama’s house robe and make an attempt at couture, I mean a hoe rag……………and……………….and are those…………………are those Payless shoes?!?! Oh, the WHOREmanity! Miley is too cute to be lookin like someone’s weekend tasty treatz!
Oh Miley m’dear, please just don’t shave your head and attack yo baby daddy SUV with an umbrella-ella-ella-eh-eh-eh!

MOMENT OF STYLE: Katie Grand

Katie Grand -the former editor of Pop Magazine is never afraid of high fashion, and why should she be?
Not only is she wearing a wooly mammoth fuschia pink Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2009 coat, but she also has Louis Vuitton Fall 2009 bunny ears, as a hair accessory.
Her amazing look is complete with Louis Vuitton Spring 2009 heels and a sparkling pink – barely seen – dress.

FEATURED: ‘Clutching It’ by Shirley Warner

There are so……many great bags out this season that I sometimes actually feel a lightheaded when looking at them. I personally prefer a little, or should I say, ALOT of detail on my bags of choice. The focus is on clutch bags today and Here are just a few of my favorites. From top to bottom the designers are, Sonia Rykiel python clutch….Roberto Cavalli snakeskin and diamante clutch (EXQUISITE)….Roberto Cavalli black jeweled clutch….Proenza Schouler Pochette’s x 2….Missoni Snakeskin clutch….Matthew Williamson python Pochette….Judith Leiber x 2 (love the cupcake)….Dries Van Noten x 2….Bulgari….Alexander McQueen x 2 (love, love, love the fringe clutch). The “jeweled daisy” clutch has a beautiful vintage look and is a sure favorite. Enjoy the view!

RUNWAY RUNDOWN: Missoni Fall 2009 Collection

Whoever said black and blue don’t go together is royaly fucked on this one. Missoni has pieced together an amazing Fall 2009 collection, that is all about grey, black and blue knits in all sorts of great patterns. The collection has a great color palate for those cold, miserable days spent walking around Manhattan. Could we be seeing a reinvention of army green as well? Make it shimer and you almost have a completely different color. Big fan of this collection.

Thin White Twinks Win The Runways of Milan

White boys have won the runways of Milan. Blacks, hispanicals and asians are completely missing. Thank god for the recession, hopefully a few more of these brands will go under and take their 1940’s segregation based practices with them.
Ad-dict: Missoni S/S 09 Shot by Steven Meisel

This Missoni ad is both beautiful and slightly disturbing to me. Steven Meisel photographed models Natasha Poly and Isabeli Fontana for the label’s latest campaign. I love the bright colors of the fabrics against the neutral tan sand. But the angle at which it’s shot combined with their makeup almost make them appear dead. I mean, not in a rotting corpse kind of way but something about it disturbs me. Don’t get me wrong though, I like it.
Thanks to Fashion Copious for the photo.
An Addition to the Fashion Calendar: Pre-Fall

You’ve seen our posts for “pre-fall” pieces. You’ve seen runway shows streamed online featuring “pre-fall” collections. The only thing left is to understand what exactly “pre-fall” is! Once buyers and editors have had their gander at the collections, designers hit the runways to give fashion gurus, like ourselves, a brief taste of what February Fashion Week is to bring. These pre-fall pieces are typically more commercial than ready-to-wear collections and a catered towards stores and customers. Pre-fall collections usually hit stores between May and July, right during the fashion season changeover. Now that you know what the pre-fall season is, expect to see pieces from such collections in stores and ready for your closets!

Runway Rundown: Missoni Pre-Fall 2010

Kicking off the year with their pre-fall ‘10 collection, Missoni had headed straight for the prints. The newest line features a wide range of dresses, shirts, skirts, jackets and more. The prints used come in a wide range of patterns, exploring numerous color palettes. Though the patterns tend to work together on the majority of the pieces, there are some where it may be a little to much. The relative shape of the creations and design detail is clearly very precisely thought out and intricately crafted. If you’re looking for a print that flows from head to toe, I’d head for Missioni pre-fall!
Moments of Style: Mena Suvari

Mena Suvari attended the amfAR’s Second Annual Cinema Against AIDS in Rome, wearing a black Missoni Spring 2009 jumpsuit. It’s very wide legged, which gives the impression it’s a dress, but it is in fact a jumpsuit.
It’s so sexy and feminine, and she looks gorgeous.

TrendSpark: Adrogony In Ads

Marc Jacobs:
Missoni:
Dazed and Confused:
Gender has seemed to find its way into a ton of ads and print lately. Marc jacobs recently featured Cole Mohr in dresses with handbags showing off his feminine side. Same goes for Luke Worhl who was shot in heels and a feather boa for his Dazed and Confused photoshoot. Then there was Missoni who recently did a photoshoot that was very sugguestive towards lesbianism. The images show one girl assume the facial and body language that a male would display while the other still seems to maintain her female aspet of relationship.
These days, anything goes when it comes to gender, sexual preference, or fetishism. So why not display this in advertising? Bigger name fashion houses like Missoni are even playing on this idea, probebly haveing something to do with how much lesbianism has been in the news lately (think Lidsay and Sam). Whatever the reason, these ads are surely very attention driven.
