Miu Miu Spring 2010: Playful Patterns

Missa October 19 at 2:01 | Comments

-1

Miu Miu’s spring 2010 show in Paris brought about many different patterns. From shoes to jackets, a majority of the items were covered in playful images—cats, birds, and daises to name a few. The motif’s transcended beyond the garments as details on numerous bags that also were shown as part of the collection.

The images all made a bold statement down the runway, but my favorite had to be the cat design.

BASH: Guido Palau Only Knows How To Braid

BASH: Guido Palau Only Knows How To Braid fashionBASH: Guido Palau Only Knows How To Braid fashionIt seems to me that Guido Palau was lacking inspiration when it came to hair-styling for the Spring 2010 shows. A braid is a pretty common hairstyle, but for Palau to style messy braids for both Alexander Wang and Miu Miu is pretty lazy. The only difference between the styles were the part placements, on the side for Wang and in the middle for Miu Miu. I like the look, don’t get me wrong, but is there more to Palau’s repertoire than braids?

RUNWAY: Miu Miu Spring 2010

RUNWAY: Miu Miu Spring 2010 fashion

Miuccia Prada had it raining cats and dogs (and birds!) at her Miu Miu Spring 2010 show in Paris. Prints were in full effect throughout the collection, decorating several high-waisted pantsuits, severe collared button ups, cropped jackets and pencil skirts. Some pieces ever aired on the revealing side, allowing sneak peeks of belly skin beneath the layers of tailored suiting. Long, scraggly braids complimented the looks well, adding a touch of carefree innocence to the collection.

The Low-Down on Loehmann’s

The Low Down on Loehmanns fashionLord only knows how many times I passed by this store without the “hmm, maybe I should check this out” thought running through my head. After several  designer budget-saver recommendations and a bit of fashion evidence from some friends, I decided to set my ego aside and pay a little visit to the Loehmann’s Chelsea location.

The first several visits left me unimpressed. The store was unorganized and crowded, wasting over 45 minutes of my life I was sure I’d never get back. Taking the wise advice of my mother, I gave the store a second chance, stopping in early on a Thursday (aka inventory day) just before February’s fashion week. Heading upstairs to “The Back Room,” the discounted designer label department, I was floored by how many great pieces there were by the fashion industry’s cream of the crop. $300 later, I walked out of Loehmann’s with over $2500 worth of  Robert Rodriguez, Vince, Mint and Helmut Lang clothes and accessories. Happy girl? You bet.

After probably a two month hiatus from the discount haven, I stopped by Loehmann’s this morning, Although I only purchased some jewelry (I got a Burberry-esque spike bracelet and a match necklace for $40. Beat that.) I was amazed to see dozens upon dozens of pieces from the Marc by Marc Jacobs Spring 2008 collection. The clothes might be two seasons old, but where else are you going to find a Marc Jacobs Americana romper marked down to just $70!? Other great buys included gorgeous Givenchy boot-heels, Comme des Garcons drop-crotch sweats (too bad they were a size 14…), a plethora of springy Philosophy dresses and tons of chunky Miu Miu, Carmen Marc Valvo and Badgely Misckha sunglasses.

All in all, if you haven’t yet been to Loehmann’s, now is the time to check it out. But be forewarned, be there early on weekdays or be prepared to dig.

ADDICT: Katie Holmes for Miu Miu fashion

A couple months ago we told you about Miu Miu tapping Katie Holmes for Spring 2009.

Vogue UK has just unveiled one shot from the campaign.

Shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, Katie wears a Miuccia Prada-designed dress. The shoot was reportedly inspired by Fellini films and is intended to radiate “mystery and theatricality.”

I’ve always thought Katie photographed well. And while I dislike the short hair on her, the true-to-Miu Miu lighting and styling suit her well.

TomKat: Old World Hollywood Style

TomKat: Old World Hollywood Style fashionThis past Sunday, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes hit the shelves in The New York Times Style Holiday 2008 issue. The photos are absolutely stunning…at least they will tie me over until I can see Holmes in the January Miu Miu campaign! T Style is available in stores and online now.

The Inter-Views of Fashion: Daisy Lowe

The Inter Views of Fashion: Daisy Lowe fashion

Daisy Lowe’s name became famous owing to her illegitimate father (Gavin Rossdale) and socialite mother (Pearl Lowe). But now the model is making her mark with her own style — so much so that photographer Steven Klein shot her for Italian Vogue in 2006 and more recently W. Plus there’s that whole Agent Provocateur campaign. But thankfully, she doesn’t take any of it too seriously. Here she talks about pink tutus, Vivienne Westwood, and her Maltese puppy.

How would you describe your look?
It changes daily and mainly revolves around whatever makes me happy. One morning I wake up envisioning myself as part of a fairy tale and put on a pink tutu and the next day I go all gothic vamp with ultrablack nail varnish. It’s all about the mix.

What should every woman have in her wardrobe?
Summer staples for me include a pair of faded denim cutoff shorts, as beaten as possible, a boxy blazer, and a good waist belt, like the stretch ones from Miu Miu to add structure to the look.

Do you have a fashion mentor?
Vivienne Westwood. She is the most stylish woman in the world. She doesn’t look to anyone else for direction, and she doesn’t take fashion too seriously.

Who are your favorite designers?
Bar Vivienne Westwood, I am never let down by the consistently beautiful shapes of Alexander McQueen. For quirky kitsch, I am an obsessive fan of Marc by Marc Jacobs. I love the details, such as the cute little bows. I also like Miu Miu for the color and its impact.

What designers or labels do you actually wear the most?
One of the best lessons my mother ever taught me was not to always rely on designers. Fashion at its best is when it is mixed up. If I had to name a favorite piece, it would probably be an all-in-one sailor striped jumpsuit by Marc by Marc – completely off-key!

The Inter Views of Fashion: Daisy Lowe fashion

First designer item ever bought?
A white grungy, graphic-print T-shirt from Vivienne Westwood. I still wear it today.

Where do you shop?
I am a huge fan of Geminola in the West Village for the long, beautiful dresses and the unusual accessories, such as the ribbon headpieces.

What are you lusting after right now?
The new Jimmy Choo sandals with the zip up the middle, which were used in the campaign. They are surprisingly rock and roll!

What’s up next?
I just finished the Converse and Agent Provocateur shoots, which should be out in September. I am now just going where the wind takes me. Ultimately I just want to have enough money to ensure I can look after my family. Admittedly not that cool!

What’s the one thing you can’t live without?
My four-month-old white Maltese puppy called Uncle Monty. He always maintains a cheery outlook!

Thanks NY Mag

Madonna Fights Back

Madonna Fights Back fashion

It seems as though Madonna got tired of being slapped in the face. Since recent talks of Madonna’s fashion choices turning for the worst, the singer has made significant plans for the ensemble of her Sticky and Sweet Tour. Adrianne Phillips returns to the scene as one of the many costume designers for the tour alongside countless other designers with a vision. Recent talks have speculated that Tom Ford created suites for her band and that Miu Miu suited Madonna up with the perfect pair of pumps as Roberto Cavalli, Yves Saint Laurent and Jeremy Scott contribute clothing for performances. Madonna assures us she won’t forget to accessorize with Moschino sunglasses and the perfect pair of Stella McCartney boots. That’s a lot of designers!

BeautySpark: Miu Miu’s Scuba Nerd

BeautySpark: Miu Mius Scuba Nerd fashion

Can I just say I hated the latest Miu Miu collection. What the fuck was that? At this point I think Miucca Prada is just fucking with editors and stylists to see if they really can work such ugliness into magazines. Even for me, the collection was out there.

That is until I saw their campaign with Johnny D’s girl Vanessa Paradis. All of sudden I really started to appreciate the collection for its scuba nerd chic.
BeautySpark: Miu Mius Scuba Nerd fashion

Looking back at the collection, even though the outfits are still a little kooky, the make-up is awesome.

BeautySpark: Miu Mius Scuba Nerd fashion
To compliment the nerdy-scuba theme the make-up artist went for a Edie Sedgwick style eye in teal, fake eye lashes with loads of mascara, and bold cherry red lips!
