Bombshell (1933) Jean Harlow ascended to her throne as the original blonde bombshell in this screwball comedy about disillusioned actress Lola Burns and her attempts at living a "normal" life. Spoiler: doesn't work out for her.

Gilda (1946) Put the blame on Rita Hayworth, as the sexy, seductive and ultimately dangerous Gilda who comes between two friends. Not only a bombshell, Gilda is also a femme fatale and thus someone has to die at the end.

The Postman Always Rings Twice (1946) "Sweater Girl" Lana Turner was at her best and sultriest as Cora Smith, a dissatisfied housewife who manipulates a drifter into murdering her husband. No one said being a bombshell was safe, kids.

Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953) What would this list be without the ultimate bombshell, Marilyn Monroe? With fellow explosive lady Jane Russell, Marilyn steams up the screen while befriending diamonds and sugar daddies.

Carmen Jones (1954) Dorothy Dandridge was a rarity in the 50s -- a blacktress who wasn't resigned to roles as domestics. In this all black adaptation of Bizet's opera, Dandridge broke all the rules -- and earned an Oscar nomination (the first Lead Actress nom for an African American, #nbd) -- as the unapologetically sexy title anti-heroine -- though this one ends with death also. I'm sensing a theme...

The Seven Year Itch (1955) Marilyn returns to the list with perhaps her most iconic role and one of the sexiest moments in cinematic history. Since she stood over that subway grate, the world's never been the same.

The Girl Can't Help It (1956) Following the popularity of Seven Year Itch and the blonde bombshell archetype, Hollywood did what it did best and bled a trend for all its worth. Enter Jayne Mansfield and her hypnotizing curves -- which, as the title suggests, she can't help.

...And God Created Woman (1956) Brigitte Bardot, France's answer to Monroe, stars as a highly sexual orphan who takes up with pretty much every man in town; a role which subsequently -- and unsurprisingly -- shot her to overnight stardom and bona fide sex symbol status.

Suddenly, Last Summer (1959) While there's a whole backstory involving cannibalism, lobotomy and homosexuality -- as well as Katharine Hepburn just generally shutting shit down -- the most indelible image from this classic is a buxom Elizabeth Taylor practically sewn into her white swimsuit.

Marriage Italian Style (1964) Sophia Loren scored her second Oscar nomination -- she won in 1962 for Two Women -- as Filumena, a resourceful prostitute determined above anything to get her man. And I mean anything; faking a terminal illness is just the tip of the iceberg.

One Million Years B.C. (1966) Though she only had three lines in the film, Raquel Welch's fur bikini spoke volumes and launched a new age of bombshell.

Barbarella (1968) Along with a scantily-clad Welch, a scantily-clad Jane Fonda (wearing, when she was wearing anything, Paco Rabane, thank you very much) defined the late-60s sexpot and brought a generation of science fiction nerds successfully through puberty.

She’s twice playing haunted young women. Once in Sean Durkin’s Martha Marcy May Marlene as a cult escapee, and another in Chris Kentis and Laura Lau’s Silent House, a young woman plagued by nightmares.

Not one to slink into acting under the guise of her last name alone, she’s graduated from NYU Tisch School of the Arts and the Atlantic Theater Company Acting School in New York. She’s also recently been compared to a young Maggie Gyllenhaal. Looks like little Olsen may have a solid acting career on her hands.

Today’s article in The New York Times Style about Miley Cyrus is reason one to celebrate the passing of Hannah Montana. The article quotes Percy Hamm, some 11-year old who is disenchanted with her recent risque behavior. When asked about the Vanity Fair pictorial, she said, “I don’t know what was going on in her head.” Like I…or Miley…give a hoot about what some judgmental tangerine thinks about her life choices? Let me clarify: A tangerine is what I call precocious, unruly, overly verbal, whiny kids. Several years ago, Tropicana was launching a line of fruit flavored drinks, and their ad campaign featured a few kids tangerines, each spouting the different flavors. The girl they cast to represent “tangerine” was sooo annoying…like beyond…hence the name stuck. Anyhoo…back to Miley and Hannah.

What astonishes me is how people are not willing to let go of their preconceived notions of who their idols can become. Miley Cyrus was acting as Hannha Montana. She isn’t actually that character. That’s like saying that Glenn Close who was playing the character Alex Forrest in the film Fatal Attraction, was really acting like Glenn and being a total, murderous nut bag. There is no difference….besides age group. The fault does not lie with the Miley Cyrus’ or Lindsay Lohan’s of the world when little kids can not accept their idols growing up. It is the Disney-fied dream machine that makes millions of unsuspecting kids turn their will and their lives over to the care of an idea of who someone is. Smart or otherwise, Disney is still able to manufacture illusion, as in the old studio system of Hollywood, where dreams were made and the movies took people away from their mundane lives and problems. Well, the same holds true with the Hannah Montana good girl machine. What is really happening here is that Miley Cyrus is growing out of her tangerine stage and her tangerine followers are not letting her go. I, for one, think that Miley is making the best possible moves, like a snake shedding its skin, to shake off that Hannah Montana image and live her life as she sees fit. Funny, this is pretty much the same story as yesterday about LeBron James and his decision to move to Miami. Do you really think that highly of yourself that your opinion matters when it comes to celebrities making personal…really personal life choices? Think again…tangerine.

Ford wrote and directed 2009’s “A Single Man” which starred Julianne Moore, Nicholas Hoult — who not so coincidentally stars in those terrifying ads we were talking about — and Colin Firth, who earned an Oscar nomination for his portrayal of the central character.

Ford let the big news slip at the unveiling of Diane von Furstenberg’s suites at Claridge’s — the same party where Madonna and Gwyneth Paltrow palled it up for the cameras — though he kept mum on any of the details. “I’m not telling you anything about it,” he told the Standard.

Slums of Beverly Hills takes us back to high school and those familiar adolescent woes with Vivian Abramowitz, played by Natasha Lyonne, in this late-90′s independent classic.

There is both comedy and drama to be found in the film, as Vivian’s unemplyed father (Alan Arkin) drags her and her two brothers from one ratty apartment to another on the fringes of glamorous Beverly Hills.

The rich colors and sets in the film, which takes place in 1976, harkens back to writer/director Tamara Jenkins’ own  childhood memories. 

Vivian’s frizzy updo and hoop earrings are full of disco glamour and  teenage frenzy, and the movie also showcases denim cutoff shorts and striped basketball socks, baggy t-shirts and floral dresses.

It’s a touching yet hilarious story of a disfunctional family and sexual awakening.

Totally gonna find this movie and watch it. I hope they make an American version, or better yet, but give us a Lindsay Lohan biopic. Nothing sceems “Hollywood Is A Life Sucking Bastard” better than the train wreck that is La Lohan.

I think there are very few people who watch more movies than I do, and Fashion Indie is looking to compile a list of some of the best styled movies of all time.
