Craig David is putting out a new album, so GQ Italia caught up with him for an interview and photoshoot for its latest issue. And who better to accompany him in the sexy and luxurious spread than gorgeous swimsuit model Angela Martini? See all of the photos and a quote from the interview after the jump.

I wonder how steamy things actually got on set, as David considers Martini his muse.

“Angela has been a friend for 3-4 years now, and she is someone with incredible self-confidence and who speaks with integrity,” David says about Martini. “She’s obviously stunning (physically) but her mind is also incredibly beautiful.”

Barbara Elias with her Brazilian nonchalance and relaxed attitude has decided to establish a career in the Fashion Industry.

She is surrounded by the most influential acquaintances and friends in the Brazilian Fashion Industry.

Barbara is the best friend and Muse of Pedro Lourenço, whom she helps from time to time during the Collection’s. Pedro, is the young and promising Fashion Designer from Brazil who has been presenting his Ready-to-Wear Collections for the last 3 seasons for Paris Fashion Week. Benjamin Kanarek captured a portrait of him last year for VOGUE Brazil. Barbara also apprenticed with Brazil’s leading designers; Reinaldo Lourenço and Gloria Coelho, Parents of Pedro.

Barbara Elias is the daughter of the successful Brazilian industrialist Marcus Elias who recently purchased “Group Daslu” Luxury Fashion Store’s in Brazil.

The It, Up and Coming Girl from Brazil

Anyone who has read RG Magazine or VOGUE Brazil recently, can attest to all of the attention that Barbara is getting lately. She is being called The It, Up and Coming Girl from Brazil.

Barbara always tries to get the best out of each city she spends time in. She spent her last year learning French at the University in Paris. She is now ready to head to London to attend the Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design. Between two flights from Sao Paulo and London, Barbara Elias had a stop over in Paris to prepare her move to London for the next school year. RG Magazine, from Brazil, jumped on the occasion and got on the phone to ask Benjamin: “Would you be available in 2 days to photograph our It Girl Barbara Elias on the Streets of Paris?” As Barbara strongly believes in signs, astrology, being in the right place at the right time and that things only happen when they are meant to happen, the first agreed shoot date was canceled. But that was for a better. Had we done the shoot as planned it would have been a very grey and overcast day. As it turned out, we moved the shoot back 2 weeks and ended up with a spectacularly sunny and warm day for our shoot. Nice going Barbara!

As Barbara stated with the utmost clarity and resolve: ”I will be an influential Fashion Director of a Top International Fashion Magazine one day.“

As a future Fashion Editor of a Fashion revue and perfect Muse, Barbara chose her own outfits for the shoot, which were both from her best friend Pedro Lourenço’s Spring-Summer 2011 Collection. By the choice of her clothing, her panache and audacity we can understand how she might one day fall gracefully in to the role she so adamantly stated she wishes to portray… A Fashion Director.

What do Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears have to do with Fashion and the Big Celebrity Boom?

Celebrities and Fashion have always been synonymous. However, today more than ever, fashion magazines are featuring more celebrities than immigrants trying to get into the USA for their Green Card. In many cases these highly regarded magazines are using celebrities more often than Super Models for their covers. There are many reasons for this and in my opinion some of those decisions have more to do with the Politics of Fashion than the notoriety of the Celebrity.

Why is it that some of the Biggy Fashion Mags don’t feature Super Models, but do feature Celebrities from all sectors of the Entertainment Industry? I believe that it is because they can’t get the Super Models for their magazines. In fact their are very few magazines that can get Super Models and find it a lot easier to get Celebrities to adorn the covers of their ELLE’s, Marie Claire’s etc…

It is true that Celebs sell and can attract a large audience, but when it comes to the giants vying for THAT Top Model, that is where only a few of the Biggies like VOGUE, Harper’s BAZAAR, ELLE and a few other more obscure, but none the less important magazines like Numéro, V and perhaps L’Officiel can get on occasion.

Of course many would argue that the reason that this or that fashion magazine are shooting Lindsay Lohan, Britney Spears or Paris Hilton is because they sell magazines. That may be true, but I am quite sure that if all of the major and lesser influential fashion magazines attempted to compete for the creme de la creme of the modelling industry and could only get models and not celebrities, that the King of the heap would surface really quickly. You would see immediately by the standard of the models acquired who really rules the game.

Thus again the reason why Celebs act as a great draw that diverts the attention from the obvious omission from the covers of “Fashion” Magazines of Top Models. Why would a major fashion magazine want to be judged by their peers and the public based on the fact that so and so was on this magazines cover but not on theirs? Celebs are a kind of “Hey we have Paris on our cover wearing Gucci” and not “Hey we could only get so and so and so and so competitor Fashion magazine knows that we could only get so and so because of you know why…”

I am not saying that celebrities should not be on magazine covers. I am saying that a Fashion magazine should be a Fashion Magazine and not a people magazine. Models are part of the Fashion landscape and I am hoping that we can get back to the epoch where fashion magazines did what they did and did it well and leave the people’s magazines to People Magazine.

There are only very few mags that can pick and choose who they put on the cover and for the right reasons! As a caveat, there are some trendy press magazines that can get top models like Muse, Dazed and Confused, Self Service, I-D and a few others, but that has more to do with other issues that could easily take up at least 3 major blog posts. The business is like a humongous Spanish onion, with more layers of complexity than Einsteins theory of relativity.

And lastly, celebrities seem to be more accessible than agents representing those models most of the fashion magazines would love to get on their covers but won’t. They and their PR people understand that the exposure they garner being seen on the cover of Redbook could aid in them getting their next big part in that 2012 blockbuster “Calender’s End”*

So the next time you see the cover of a magazine with a celeb on the cover, you may want to ask yourself, “Did they because they wanted to, or because so and so didn’t want to”.

Probably one of the best exhibitions around on one of the greatest fashion designers, Yves Saint Laurent. A retrospective of 40 years with a selection of 300 haute couture and ready-to-wear garments, a selection of pictures, drawings and films. From the Dior Years to the Smoking and the Collision of Colours, it's truly a remarkable exhibition. It ends 29th August 2010 so there is still enough time to check it out. Would advise to book early if you can to avoid the long queue, and give yourself plenty of time to enjoy his amazing work. It's an inspiration to anyone whether in fashion or not. A Dyeing Art: de Young’s To Dye For Exhibit

Having been invited to see the new To Dye For exhibit at the de Young museum, I was expecting a gallery of tie dye displays similar to the sights I see while walking down Haight Street. That was not the case; in fact, I was blown away by the history and artful techniques that have been used throughout the centuries and all around the world, including our very own Bay Area.

By weaving through the glass boxes filled with complex designs worn by far-off cultures, I realized there was more to tie dye than attacking a white shirt with rubber bands and dumping it into a bowl. Actually, there are four different ways to give a garment that multicolored essence: stitch-resist, ikat, proto ikat and space resist—all of which are presented and explained at the de Young.

Displayed are pieces created as far back as the 1860s and as faraway as Central Asia. Pieces worn by cultures in their most sacred of ceremonies are wonderfully contrasted with recent pieces such as a 2005 Oscar de la Renta trench coat and a 2009 silk evening dress by U.C Berkeley alumni sisters Laura and Kate Mulleavy of Rodarte.

My favorite? The Coca-Cola Kimono (1975) by Bay Area artist Yoshiko I. Wada, who intricately resist-dyed the piece several times to display the famous classic logo. Other exhibited local designers and artists are Barbara Shapiro and Ana Lisa Hedstrom.

I left the de Young inspired by the many fascinating forms of tie dye textiles that pieces are, indeed, to-die-for and together form an exhibit well worth seeing.

Chelsea of Maritime Shopaholic proudly represents Canada’s east coast as she takes her readers on a day-to-day journey with her through the Maritimes as well as to other Canadian cities, filled with outfit posts, event photos, her own social gatherings and more! Her blog perfectly showcases the easy-going, down-to-earth style that the East coast is so well-known for, with her own touches of fabulousity and personal flair! Here is her interview:

How did your interest in the fashion industry spark?
I’ve always admired beautiful things and loved shopping for an article of clothing that made me feel like a new shiny penny. But I’m going to say my real interest in the fashion industry: the trends, designers and labels, and the happenings, came about in grad school when I found escape in fashion between mounds of assignments and late nights of writing group papers. I found shopping to be genuine retail therapy and I found my sense of style starting to evolve. And with that, I had some of my friends referring to me as their version of Sarah Jessica Parker (which is the biggest of compliments). Since then, my love of shopping, as well as fashion, has grown and I now share that through my personal style blog.

How would you describe your personal style?
My style is mostly romantic with a touch of boho at times. Other times I will choose looks that are a little more edgy by adding pieces with leather or studs. I love incorporating various textures including silk, feathers, sequins, or buttons. I like to choose pieces and fabrics that are comfortable but flattering and pretty! At times I lean toward a minimalist approach to my outfits, but accessorizing is important. There’s time for practical outfits but I’ll use any excuse to wear a dress and put on my heels!

What’s the fashion scene like on Canada’s east coast?
The fashion scene on the east coast often reflects the down to earth people we tend to be! It may not be on top of the curve like bigger metro areas but where our weather varies quite a bit, layers are important and so is comfort.

Coming from a smaller city, do you ever feel like your retail opportunities are limited?
I will agree that the variety in what retail there is here is limited in some aspects. In Saint John (New Brunswick), where I live, the variety of stores is certainly growing. But, I will make a point to make the most of a trip to Halifax (Nova Scotia) when I’m there to collect on certain looks or visit particular stores. I would say that although Saint John is making gains, Halifax is our most fashion-forward and most populated city on the east coast (and 4 hours away from my home city). I go to visit my friends or attend particular events, but I also make a point to plan a shopping venture! The stores don’t repeat as often as they do in the more populated areas of our country so driving is a must to reach all my favourite stores. There are some labels or stores we don’t have but that makes an exciting trip to the states, Montreal or Toronto. I visit Toronto a couple times a year anyways because my best friend lives there…we are often found shopping until we drop!

What are some of your local Maritime retail haunts?
Some of my favourite shops are the locally owned boutiques that I recommend you visit if you ever find yourself in my neck of the woods! I would have to say a regular supplier to my wardrobe would be Je Suis Prest Boutique. I also shop at Pseudio and Envy, also located in uptown Saint John. When in Halifax, I frequent an accessories shop called Splurge, as well as boutiques named Sweet Pea and Twisted Muse. I also incorporate items from American Apparel, Club Monaco, H&M, Banana Republic.

Which fashion blogs are added to your favorites?
That’s a difficult question where there’s so many fashionable women I try to follow! I would have to say my top favourites would be: What I Wore, Passport Glamour, Kendi Everyday, Oh My Heart, Pretty Shiny Sparkly, and Cupcakes & Cashmere.

What pieces have you added to your fall wish list?
I am really hoping to find an edgy pair of low boots or open toe booties. I also have a faux fur Jack BB Dakota vest on lay away (partly because I couldn’t bare to pass up on it, but mostl because I can’t bare to give up on summer already!). I’d also love an over the shoulder leather bag in a colours such as camel, plum, or olive.

Quirky lines like Marc Jacobs or classic lines like Chanel?
I see Chanel to be more like art, but I am more likely to wear something by Marc Jacobs.

Neutrals or Bright Colors?
I like to choose from both, but I will often choose neutrals and fancy it up with bold accessories.

What she’s wearing: Free People top, Aerie tank top, Nissi jeans, Dogeared necklaces, Nine West flats, a gifted hairpiece.

Vogue or Elle?
Vogue

Martinis or Cosmos?
I love to try different martinis, but nothing beats a good cosmopolitan.

Carrie, Charlotte, Miranda or Samantha?
I’m definitely a Carrie!

What’s next for you and Maritime Shopaholic?
I’m looking to expand my content actually. One of my ideas is to do features that would involve interviewing people that are involved in the fashion industry in one way or another. I’m also trying new style challenges to blog about. I’ll continue style new looks and remix outfits. I hope to find new ways to participate in the community of fashion bloggers. I have a lot of ideas to explore and share- you’ll just have to wait and see!

Guerlain 93 Rue de Passy Fall 2010 Eye Shadow Palette

Someone at Guerlain really knows us. Naming the new eye shadow palettes from the fall 2010 Champs-Elysees collection after the most fabulous shopping destinations in Paris could not be more perfect. 93 Rue de Passy is also home of a Lancel boutique, where you can find this little beauty (€ 599.00) and other leather goods:

93 Rue de Passy is also the name of this 6 color eye palette (five shadows, one powder liner). The colors are on the warm side, from shimmery pink quartz to sandy brown. The eyeliner is charcoal and might be the least convincing item in the otherwise wonderful palette. The eye shadows come in various textures from matte to high shimmer, they blend well together and allow for creating different looks. Playing and combining these colors has kept me amused for the last couple of weeks and I’ve been wearing this palette everywhere- from the pet store to the comedy club to see Jeniffer Coolidge (so much fun).

Bottom Line: It’s a gem.

Crayon Rings

The inner child in me would still like to pick up some waxy crayons and colour some flowers trees and horses and bees. But it would have never occurred to me that they would come in form of a ring. Raindrops On Roses And Ruben and Isabel Toledo

Bright Stephen Burrows and warm woolen mittens…

Though white paper packages tied up with strings are not on my list, these are a few of my favorite people. Unless you are dead, you know that Target is opening its first store in New York City…East Harlem to be exact. Although it is still a bit of a schlepp for me, seeing that I am a devout downtown-ite, the great news is that the Target folks had the where-with-all to engage designers that would resonate in their new neighborhood. Most notably, Stephen Burrows and the illustrious Isabel and Ruben Toledo. When Target launches those limited edition designer bits with the likes of Zac Posen or Alexander McQueen, that stuff doesn’t really float my boat. At least now, I get to crow about Ruben and Isabel Toledo’s swimwear collection and Stephen Burrows’ signature hand print T-shirts. Why? Because I lerve them. I have known Stephen since the early days of Studio 54…I was a Burrow-ette. And as for the Toledos, well, name me one other couple in the fashion industry that is as admired, respected and talented as those two, besides maybe Inez van Lamsveerde and Vinoodh Matadin. Go ahead….name another couple on that level…you see…ungats? Sorry, but Katy Perry and Russell Brand do not cut it.

Stephen Burrows…work.

Most importantly, these groovy designers are donating a percentage of sales to their favorite charities. Another week of SPUN – check it out every Tuesday at THE FOUNDATION at 137 ESSEX STREET off Rivington – you have the opportunity to go behind the DJ booth and learn how to DJ for 15 minutes or if you are learning how to be a DJ – try out your skills for 15 minutes. The party starts at 9pm and the open djing is from 10:00 – 11:30 every Tuesday night. The party goes on after that. Bring friends and have fun – everything you need is provided.

I am so excited because my friends have been coming to visit me on Tuesday to check the party out and my best friend, Kerri and her boyfriend Mark came out …. Here are some photos from the last two weeks’ parties of SPUN.

Last week, I was in Los Angeles flew out with my buddy, Josh, we were supposed to dj a party for my client, bobi and Keep A Child Alive but we arrived and unfortunately the sound system had some serious technical difficulties and there was no sound – so we both had our first silent dj set. I knew what I wanted to play but I never got to play it. The funny part is that my friend, Brandon Barash, from General Hostipal was all set up to play the harmonica while I played ‘Janglin by one of my favorite bands – Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeroes but it never happened. My buddy Danny & David Roberts stopped by to support and Julie from PJ Salvage ( the most amazing pjs in the world) and my one of my favorite favs, Amanda Macnaughton ( from CultureJam). Kara Lusardi, the designer of bobi, is brilliant – her clothes are just super wearable, well designed and great for traveling. Here are some photos from the party. She raised over $5,000 in 2 hours selling samples for $20 each and all the money – all proceeds went to Keep A Child Alive – an organization where you see the results. They are making change happen and they are giving Africa and other third world countries a better future. Leigh Blake is one of my heroes and everyone that works at KCA is awesome. I love talking to them and I wish I could do more with them.

So the next day I went to visit the THINK PR LA office… here are some photos of the office and Jen & Grace were around so I caught them on camera….

So funny Jeremy Searle, Jen’s brother, who is always a hoot and just a superstar is on some rad Toshiba commercials… so we watched those….

To check out the Café Habana Outpost which = good food and amazing atmosphere – everything from the décor to the Shepard Fairey original on the wall … check out some photos of the café, the surrounding stores, and our trip to some of the stores including JUICY COUTURE ( which is such a cute little shop – we went in because my friend AMANDA’s face graces one of the t-shirts there – we all had to get one … my friend Jen & her took a photo in a photo booth and the designer liked the image they used it for one of the shirts they sell – it is adorable!) … FREE CITY…. The next day I met up with my buddy, Peter James Lee, we had some talks about life + then we chatted a bit about “how to incorporate new talent into the garment industry” meaning sewers, pattern makers etc… to learn more visit www.madeinmidtown.org…

PJL is just an awesome dude – full of ideas, super creative, super fun, and a huge heart. My friend, Josh, introduced me to him and I am very lucky to have them both in my life.

After that I was like Jen & Josh we gotta go to the Cobrasnake store… and so glad we did… I picked up some awesome books and we got to hang out with all the guys that make it happen including this awesome store/ gallery… I found myself a cool vest and picked up some books…. And we just hung out and chatted with the guys for a while.. so glad I popped by – if you don’t know about Cobrasnake – google … we are lucky to be in 2010 and to have talent like this surrounding us.

Speaking of talent, I encountered some really sad news last week when I opened my Sunday Styles to see the world and many people close to him, lost Tobias Wong. He was a genius. I was able to work with him during our time working with Felissimo and I knew from the day I met him he was a stand out artist/designer. He had an eye and a mind that created just really smart items. He always put a smile on my face and in his presence I always knew I was with someone brilliant. The last time I saw him, I asked him about these matches he made using a play on the Chanel logo. I wanted to get some for my buddy, Josh for his birthday since he has a Chanel tattoo and has an admiration for Gabrielle Coco Chanel and Karl etc… and Tobias was so happy I asked about them and gave me a few – I remember I asked if they were signed and he was so sweet about the whole thing. I wanted to pay him and he said don’t worry about it… and he had such a big smile that day. He was always so kind, so lovely, so interesting and just an awesome person. If you never saw Tobias Wong’s work at one of the many museum shops or at Felissimo etc you should google him.

What I took away from reading the article and feeling so bad for all the people that loved him was that you never know what is going to happen in life. We are all on a journey of life and we don’t have control over it sometime. I had some serious suprises this year and nothing is set in stone… but you just need to take each day as it comes… you need to enjoy life and enjoy the people who make you feel good … go after what you want…. Run instead of walking sometime…. Don’t be lazy… Voice your opinion try to make your dreams come true and love with all your heart. Your heart will get broken sometime – it just happens but sometimes it doesn’t and it feels really great to love your family and your friends and to be loved back.

The other thing I learned is to support talent – don’t be afraid of it. If you have a talent or hobby – dedicate time to it. Support your friends who have specific talents and encourage them to explore their skills. And support TALENT… support the arts … dance, music, art, etc… all forms of it and when you find people who inspire you – embrace it and tell them. I think Tobias knew I was wowed by his talent that day I saw him for the matchbooks – I hope so… I hope that every artist I notice that inspires me realizes that they inspired me. Art is all around us we need to embrace it and share it with others.

I never went to THE CAKE SHOP before but it is really cute upstairs and as you walk down the stairs, there are lots of cool people who left there mark… see some photos as well as a great photo of the SUBSTRATUS by Robbie Bellon.

Oh right before that we went to the RON GALELLA exhibit at the CLIC GALLERY – he is amazing – check out SMASH THE CAMERA ON HBO.

It is funny because I was a new wave /alternative / classic rock … with a little NKOTB and Bon Jovi girl growing up and now I love indie rock and a mix of global and electronic music… a very small part of me appreciates House music because of my times in Ibiza… I would say I have eclectic taste.. I have been to Heavy Metal shows but I never really loved them but I am gaining a bit of an appreciation in punk music… Substratus I would say is a punk band… and it is funny because on the way home from LA, Josh gave me a dvd of THE CLASH. Mind you that THE CLASH were the coolest dressers ever… they made their own clothes… I watched the dvd and would rewind here and there to see some of their jump suits and painted shirts and jackets and just how they wore their clothes…I have on some of my trips to LA and abroad watched about 3 or 4 documentaries and films on PUNK music and I do have an appreciation for it now and I enjoy it.

After the show we walked by THE CARAVAN OF DREAMS… one of the yummiest restaurants in the city – check it out – so good !

Last night I winded up walking by this little mini gallery for “bike clothing” on Bowery – they have a Caravan in the back and just some really cool décor – the space has a great vibe and check it out if you are near Gemma or the John Varvatos store it is the other side of the street off Great Jones on Bowery.

Well Happy Fourth of July and I won’t be writing in possibly for a little bit because I am off to the Bread and Butter show in Berlin next week and to see some of the Mercedes Benz fashion shows and then going to Morrocco and Paris and Normandy. Oh last thing!!! My father recently reminded me besides being my hero that he was a hero once for someone on their wedding day — he was driving and saw a car with a BRIDE stuck along the side of the road – and he pulled over and indeed the bride was going to be late to the wedding so he drove them…. the local newspapers covered the story … check it out ….

Seeing beautiful vintage dresses simply gives me a chill! The “nipped” waists and full skirts make a stunning silhouette. From that bygone era when dresses were de riguer……the dress for day (encompassing errands and lunch), the cocktail and dinner dress along with the beautiful gown for that important event. The cocktail dress in picture three (my favorite), and those in pictures five and seven, would translate well with today’s looks. Oh, the beauty of it all!

Lady Gaga for McQueen Collection in the works

Ok so i totally dont know if you guys are aware of this already…..

So we all know the Alexander McQueen Collection continues, with their underwear collection being announced a few days ago, and its also being rumored that the awesome british designer Gareth Pugh would take over Heading the brand (totally awesome choice I think)…. “wätever no bëeg deal”

But it has now been revelead that the fashion house is collaborating on a capsule collection with performer Lady Gaga for the Spring 2011 season. PPR are apparently totally keen on this because of commercial viability “DUH!! ITS GAGA!” and cohesion with both brand and performer… and McQueen considered her his unofficial muse anyway….

Not much is known about the collection but its gonna be alongside a main Alexander McQueen Collection and its going to be called…. ‘Poisson D’Avril’…. some reference made to Gaga’s poison antics in both the Paparazzi & Telephone videos

Word has gotten out that Terry Richardson, the photographer who has done shoots for Purple magazine and Belvedere Vodka, as well as countless carnal portraits of himself and porn stars, will shoot Lindsay Lohan for an upcoming spread in Muse magazine. Alledgedly, the photo shoot will be pretty riqsue, with Lohan, a male model and a female model simulating a threesome. Richardson shot Lohan back in 2006 for GQ. It should be stunning!

Andreas Larsson’s “The Reader” for this spring’s issue of Muse is one of those editorials that you love and hate, all at the same time. I’ll give him credit for the vintage photo quality, which lends itself well to the blast from the past fashions featured in the spread, but that model has got to go. Sure, she looks the part of 1940′s stay-at-home bookworm, but her face is awkwardly dead. Personally, I think this spread would have been much better had the model played the all natural card and didn’t look at the camera!
