Exclusive: New Silver Medallion Music Video

Stylish singer, self-proclaimed sexual icon, and classically trained Suzuki violinist (more on that later) Silver Medallion has dropped his latest video covering dance track “Dancing On My Own” by Robyn and we’re the first ones to get our hands on it. Check out his style influences, his summer music recommendations, and the hot new video after the jump.

How would you describe your style?

Long hair don’t care. #LHDC. It’s a lifestyle.

Who are your style icons?

Rankin. Tom Ford. Whoever is responsible for the style of the male characters in Wes Anderson films… As far as artists I love Sky Ferriera‘s style throughout her whole career so far.

What are your plans for the summer?

Canoodling. Hedonism. Water ballooning high school kids in my neighborhood from my balcony. Continuing my ongoing, lifelong quest for the perfect tan. Also I’m doing a music series called #longpopsummer that consists of covers like the Robyn cover, and some pop originals that are a little outside of my normal musical offerings.

Who are you music influences right now?

I went digging through all my albums recently in preparation for summer, I actually brought back the Twin Shadow album I was playing all last summer into rotation, there’s something about the way he effortlessly creates an 80s, totally indie vibe with no pop connotations whatsoever beyond general amazingness that I’m still obsessed with.

I can’t handle listening to club music outside of the the club/show atmosphere since I’m out doing shows so much so I’ve been listening to Explosions in the Sky constantly at home, they create these large walls of sound with epic, orchestral buildups that I feel has influenced the way I write and build up house music songs, I’m trying to break the structural formula of most club house music and use more drastic arrangement changes in new music I’m creating, and Explosions in the Sky is definitely an influence.

What bands/artists should we be looking out this summer?

The swedish duo Icona Pop has one of my favorite songs of the summer already, my friend DJ Louie XIV showed it to me a few weeks back, its called “I Love It” and I can’t see any reason why it won’t be huge all summer.

Alvin Risk is my favorite electronic artist right now, I caught a ton of buzz about him at Ultra this year, he has a sick live show and has just been turning out consistent great tracks.

I’m labelmates with a group called Solidisco that I’ve been playing out all the time, they make amazing house/electro remakes of disco and r&b tracks that’s a perfect NYC summer dance soundtrack.

What are 3 things most people don’t know about you?

- A lot of people don’t know I’m originally from Hawaii, since I live in NYC now and Silver Medallion first found success in Arizona, but I grew up way into the reggae and beach life, and all the good things that come with it.

- Also, I’m a classically trained Suzuki violinist, although I don’t get much practice in anymore.

- I’m an avid survivalist, my contingency plan for the apocalypse is very intensely thought out. When it all falls down, keep your fingers crossed we’re at the same party.

The history of "The Jerk" is a bit complicated. It first came into popularity in the 1960's. Don Julian's The Jerk started it all, but it's The Capitols' Cool Jerk that originally brought the dance into fame. Next, Audio Push created Teach Me How To Jerk, but it didn't come back into popularity until New Boyz released their version, "You're A Jerk." Regardless, you can learn how to do The Jerk here!

Despite it's culinary name, this dance originated in Harlem from DJ Webster's hit song, "Chicken Noodle Soup." Especially after Chris Brown showed off his Chicken Noodle skills, the dance quickly became an internet sensation. Learn how to do the dance here!

Believe it or not, but the Harlem Shake, originally named the "Albee," was created by a homeless man in 1981. Al B, nicknamed Sisqo, was an alcoholic in Harlem (shocker) who would perform (and teach!) the Albee for 50 cents or a beverage. During a writing break at SNL last week, cast member Taran Killam decided to put on a pink fuzzy sweater and reproduce the entire dance Robyn performs in her Call Your Girlfriend video. Recruiting the help of other writers to shine flashlights for a strobe effect, the duplication is actually quite good. Naturally, we have been obsessing over it the last few days. Here’s another one! Beyonce just released her fourth video from her latest album 4. (Yes, 4th video since her album released only a little over month ago ! Overkill?) Countdown is very Beyonce dance track and one that we’ve personally danced to many times after hours at the office.

The video is full of pop cultures references (aren’t they all?) and shows a very pregnant B still turning it for the camera. We can tell there are going to be a lot of beauty trends that come from this. If only all moms to be could look this glamourous.

Rihanna‘s new video for S&M is full of latex, wild hair, and Perez Hilton?!

I must admit that this might be the funnest (and yes I wrote that on purpose) Rihanna video to date. The video is pretty silly the the songstress from Barbados still manages to keep her sex appeal. (See: Her playboy bunny look in the video) Who doesn’t like a song about Sadomasochism?

I always take it off when listening to Ke$ha.

Obviously my girl Ke$ha and her friends dropped some acid and thought it would be cool to play dress up and shoot a video. I personally LOVE it! Her old video consisted of her running around a dilapidated motel and turning people into colored sand. (YAWN!) This one features a lot more shirtless guys, trannys, and animal prints. All of my favorite things!
