This über insider pointed to a nearby painting of the night sky, and explained that the three colors resemble that of moonlit wisps of cloud – that edge where the clouds fade into space. This is a rendering of the color I’m expecting upon description.

The pocketed empty bottle of tequila inhibited said insider from spilling all of Chanel’s secrets, but we will find out the three true hues on Fashion’s Night Out!

What is your favorite nail hue for the coming summer months?

1. Soak feet to soothe and prepare: Soaking feet will soften and prepare them for the pedicure ahead. Adding bath salts to warm water will soothe feet and relax tired muscles. Carol’s Daughter Body Aches Bath Salts include essential oils of tea tree, lavender and peppermint for an aromatic and pampering experience.

2. Scrub-a-dub-dub: Before your feet can be at their very softest, you need to remove all those dead skin cells. The easiest way to do it is on the side of your tub before getting into the shower. 5. Soften and nourish cuticles: Even if you don’t want to cut your cuticles, it’s important to moisturize and pamper them. Apply a dab to each fingernail and gently rub into your cuticles. 6. Polish time: You’ve primped your feet, so now it’s time to polish those toes. Make sure to swipe a cotton ball soaked with nail polish remover over toenails to eliminate oils or lotion that could prevent polish from sticking. Start with a base coat, like OPI Natural Nail Base Coat, then apply your favorite spring color. Finish with a top coat like Essie No Chips Ahead Top Coat to preserve that gorgeous pedicure for days!

Katy Perry‘s line for OPI shimmies and shakes in all the right places, kind of like my teenage dreams. She’s got the season’s splash in her color palette: Black Shatter Polish. It’s a top coat you apply that cracks apart as it dries, leaving your nails looking perfectly chipped, almost tribally printed, with another hue peeking out from beneath.

Glitter Me Bieber:

Justin Bieber has his own line of nail polish, this we know I’m sure. Remember that One Less Lonely Girl collection for Nicole by OPI sold exclusively at…Walmart? Well, it’s actually pretty flippin’ sweet (this we weren’t as sure of). He’s got the glitter, the metallic, the multi-colored sparkle. Alright, ALRIGHT! I’m a Belieber.

Hot on the heels of the drool-worthy Les Khakis de Chanel, which had fashionistas clamoring for militaristic taupes and muddy greens for fall, Chanel will drop Riva–a pretty, delicate blue that made its debut on the Saint Tropez Resort runway this May.

If you don’t have enough in the bank to jet off to the Riviera for a quick holiday, Riva’s $39 price tag will do the trick. But act fast: the limited-edition lacquer hits Chanel beauty counters, boutiques, and the website on December 1st, and if previous polish frenzies are anything to go by (remember the Jade craze?), it’s going to be a madhouse race to the last bottle.

Candy company Cadbury has linked arms with Nails Inc., a U.K. nail polish company, to produce a small collection of two polishes. Just in time for Cadbury’s release of their newest candy bar, Cadbury Milk Bliss, the nail company has teamed up with them to release Vanilla Bliss and Chocolate Bliss. Unfortunately, if you don’t live in the U.K. you’re out of luck, both the candy bar and the polishes are being exclusively sold there.

Now when I talk about men getting a little festive with their nails I don’t mean for any guy to go the route of  Sheneneh from the 90′s sitcom, Martin. Would it be strange to shake a man’s hand and discover his mauve nail polish?

As many teenagers going through a douche bag punk rock phase I did dab black nail polish on my fingers one day and believe after the looks I got in school it HAD to go. Years later I don’t regret trying it out and would like to try out this experiment again. Since then the age of the metrosexual has materialized rather awesomely and men really do pay ten times more attention to their appearance.

It seems that painting one’s nails is an area in men’s grooming which is still looked down upon. In a world where there are continuing to be innovations in nail design industry suck as minx and different application procedures, why is this so?

As a persistent nail biter I would never get my nails done with anything fancy, but I wouldn’t find coating my nails with a neutral tone before heading out the door to a fete.

Head down to Urban Outfitters to check out six new nail lacquers from A Beautiful Life. Frosh, Juiced, Go Go, Roxanne and Vette are all bold colors that would look great on anyone. The new set of polishes even includes a two in one base/top coat! Each color is sold individually for $12.

We’ve been tracking the onslaught of cartoon beauty collaborations – from Alice in Wonderland, to Shrek for OPI, and the Disney villains for MAC, and they just don’t seem to stop. The latest puzzing nail polish collaboration involves Essie and Morticia Addams, to promote the Broadway musical, The Addams Family, starring Bebe Neuwirth (shown above, with Nathan Lane): but what’s more surprising is that we actually love the colors. Who knew Morticia Addams had such awesome taste in nail polish? 

The set, Essie Morticia’s Nails, includes three vampy new shades: a perfect-for-fall maroon “Blood Curling Red,” “Bone Chilling White”, and my personal favorite “Midnight Tango” which is just like OPI’s Russian Navy but slightly more bluish. At $30, proceeds from the set benefit Neuwirth’s charity, the Actor’s Fund. Twist our arms–we’re sold.

I just received my Who What Wear daily newsletter and today’s trend is Taupe Nail Polish. This isn’t at all surprising since this color has been on the hands of many celebs in the past few months, it’s actually one of my fave colors to wear for any occasion (try Metro Chic from Sephora by OPI $9), yet I’m finding that men are not attracted to this color! A few of my guy friends (including my hubby) have stated that this color looks ‘old ladyish’ and is not at all sexy. I guess I can see that, since the color actually lacks color, and does end up looking a bit dull and drab after a few days…Do you guys agree?

News has it Judith Ripka has teamed up with Essie nail polish to create three new colors. Heart My JR Jewels, Put a Ripka Ring on It, and Queen of Hearts are three colors we can’t wait to get out hands on. So what’s the Ripka touch? The colors are supposedly infused with a diamond dust!

Painting ones nails might just be the oldest beauty trend. The Chinese have been making their nails beautiful since 3000 B.C. using a mix of arabic gum, eggs whites, gelatin and beeswax. Other ancient nail painting practices include stains from henna and massaging tinted powders into their nails. The painting of ones nails was so important to women that recipes for making your own nail varnish was included in 19th century cookbooks. Thankfully, nail polish technology and connivence has progressed.

Nail Solvent, or nail polish remover as it is now known as, was a big selling item in the first half of the 20th century. Something we now take for granted a good nail solvent was seen as a way to elevate the level of the nail polish you were selling.

The selling point of nail solvent can be seen in this ad for on the lower right side of this vintage advertisement which explains how Cutex remover is different then the others because it “contains a very special oil” that will not leave residue on the nails.

Moon manicures were popular with Hollywood starlets in the 20′s and 30′s, so it’s no surprise vintage glamour lover Dita Von Teese is bringing back this nail trend.

Mini-skirt inventor Mary Quant is less known for deciding that nail might not only match your lipstick, they could match your clothing too! Her mod aesthetic required red nails to be put on the back burner, allowing pastels nails to became all the rage.

Pastel nails lead to bright nails, and then darker nails which have been seen on the goth crowd for, well, ever. Male rock stars love this look to, seen above on Jared Leto. This love affair dates back to 60′s Lou Reed when he was fronting The Velvet Underground.

The 70′s saw the rise of the French Manicure, a term coined by Orly founder Jeff Pink and his manicure sets. This muted manicure is considered so timeless that it is often worn on important days such as ones wedding.

Minx nails are the newest big nail trend, as we wrote about last month. These metallic nail coverings have been seen on everyone from Lady Gaga to Blake Lively. Minx is basically nail stickers that are applied with heat and easy to remove.

With so many nail trends to choose from, and more popping up every day, decorating ones nails never ceases to be fun. No wonder it’s been such a long standing love affair.

We all know the frustration of applying five coats of nailpolish WITH a topcoat only to have it peel away three days later, and paying upwards of $20 bucks for a salon job just to be met with the same deterioation. If you’re like me and you love to decorate your fingers with a fresh pop of color and not fret over the inevitable chipping, O.P.I has come up with Axxium Soak-Off Gels, permanent laquers that, really, last as long as you want them to. It’s basically a thinner version of the acrylic paste used for traditional artificial nails that, when set to ultraviolet light, forms a lasting bond with the nail that won’t chip. As your nails grow, you get “color fills” to shade in the new growth, and when your finish loses luster or you just get bored, a regular polish can be applied on top of the gel. A 15-20 minute soak in an acetone solution with dissolve the gels completely should you want a brand new set. For $40 I’m definetely down.

Revlon is releasing eight new nail-polish colors that will smell like tropical scents when dry. They’ll hit stores just before summer in fragrances and shades of coconut, mango, papaya, strawberry, raspberry, cherry, passion fruit, and blueberry. Call me a kid for being super excited!
