We always see a number of trends popping up at New York Fashion Week. But this Spring 2011 Fashion Week tons of nail trends hit the runways and we couldn’t be happier! Think matte, gloss and especially bright colors, it was all there. The nail art seemed to feature a bunch of two-dimensional designs and always seemed to be quite the show stopper!

BEAUTY: Katy Perry Keeps It Traditional

Though the singer is notorious for having some wild outfit and beauty choices, on her wedding day she’s trying to stay pretty traditional. When asked about her wedding manicure Katy replied, “I think for my wedding I’ll do what is called ‘wedding nails,’ where it’s traditional and pretty. I don’t know if I’d want, like, Oompa Loompas on my nails while taking my pictures.” I think that’s a pretty good idea too.

I’m all for trying out new nail polish colors. And I’m sure there are tons of you who decorate those tips with fabulous new designs and creations, but if you think you’re adventurous it’s time you took a glance over to Japan. They actually have Nail Queen Awards! At first I thought this was some sort of joke, but no, it’s true. And boy is it fascinating.

Here are the two latest trends in nails: the above from Prada’s runway, and the below as seen on celebs such as Blake Lively. I can’t lie, I kinda like the clear plastic add on (not necessarily the length) more than the lace, which seems too bulky. What do you guys think?

I’m all for wild ideas and unique inspiration, but StrangeBeautiful’s founder Jane Schub has taken it to a whole new level. The new line, Color Volume 3, consists of eight polishes that really let us in on how “To Be Strange is to be Beautiful”. Inspirations include “the saturated rusty iron color of an Irish bog, veins of green mold running through Roquefort, the dreadfully wonderful dirty almond color used on kitchen appliances, the belly of a pigeon, the artist Sean Scully, aged armagnac, the rich black olive green color of Loden cloth, and the dull brown red of Redrope files.”

Whatever works I guess. Right?
