The Council of Fashion Designers of America has joined forces with the National Resources Defense Council on Clean by Design, a program seeking to significantly reduce the fashion industry’s environmental impact.

With New York Fashion Week over and done, we get to see what designers latched onto which wavelengths, sending down similar looks for us to love. Nanette Lepore‘s girls came out today gilded in gold, glowing with jewels, burning with orange, and with a sense of English school girl goes to India. This mod Fall 2012 experiment kicked off with a rendition of The Beatles‘ I Saw Her Standing There and continued with a barrage of pretty dresses. There’s something mystical about the collection, and there’s a dandy explanation, straight from Nanette’s lips. And if you’re a young designer, you need a piece of Ms. Lepore’s mind. Located at 1412 Broadway for the last 15 years, the CFDA has been, as president Diane von Furstenberg puts it, the “soul of the Garment District” — working tirelessly to preserve the once thriving neighborhood with initiatives such as the CFDA Incubator and Made in Midtown. Now that the Council is planning to physically abandon the District, some fear it will also leave the Garment…out to dry.

I’ve discovered The Sourcer’s Stone; a rock to cling to when every textile mill I call tells me “3,000 yard minimun! 1,000 yard per color!” A guiding light when I’m googling and cold calling mills about a specific fabric. My support system when it feels like there’s hardly anybody left in NYC that will sew a garment for a reasonable price! Enter The Designer’s Guide, which lists only low-minimum fabric resources, and The Sourcer’s Guide, which additionally gives precious information about contractors, pattern makers, cutters, and trim resources. And you can search by fabric in great detail. Let me explain.

Just when you thought it was safe to turn on your TV, Project Runway has spawned a secondary series, Project Runway All Stars. While the 10th season of boring, regular PJ Runway starts in June with Heidi Klum, Michael Kors, Nina Garcia and Tim Gunn stepping into their well-worn shoes, PJ Runway All Stars debuts January 5 with new but fashionably familiar faces.

Amongst the bevy of busy prints that has shaped this fashion week, we’ve noticed how equally represented Roy G. Biv has been. These shades, however, are unique to now, with a sense of vibrancy. According to designers in the Big 4: New York, London, Milan and Paris, it’s going to be a colorful Spring. Taste the rainbow.

Ever since Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week moved from the tents at Bryant Park to the metaphorical tents at Lincoln Center, more and more designers have opted instead of external sites to hold their fashion shows. One of the most popular venues, Milk Studios, is now in direct competition with Lincoln Center for both sponsors and designers.
