Natalie Portman Wore Rodarte Lite

Edited by

%images%

Rodarte has gained quite the following for its cobwebby knits and dresses made from slashed tulle, but most starlets shy away from actually wearing the complicated creations. Which is why it’s so exciting when we get to glimpse a Rodarte gown in the wild! Natalie Portman chose a floor…

Natalie Portman Portrays a Swan, Thankfully not a Canadian Goose

Natalie Portman Portrays a Swan, Thankfully not a Canadian Goose

The trailer for Black Swan, Darren Aronofsky’s latest mind f—k, was released online yesterday. Laura and Kate Mulleavy of Rodarte designed some 40 costumes for the avian thriller and judging from the still shots, Natalie Portman’s ballerina character sports some lovely plumage.

Coming off the wild success of The Wrestler, Aronofsky seems once again to focus on and magnify the tormented human condition. In this particular instance, Portman’s protagonist must compete against Mila Kunis in an attempt to remain the principal of her ballet company. Out of this, the girls develop a strangely close relationship that appears detrimental to Portman’s well-being, or maybe she’s just going bat, uh,er, bird sh-t crazy. The last two seconds of the trailer suggest that Portman eventually morphs into an actual swan.
Certainly, this movie is one that will leave viewers open jawed and slightly befuddled come December 1st. Fingers crossed that the erotic scenes between Portman and Kunis leave out the double-sided dildo from yet another of Aronofsky’s films, Requiem for a Dream.

Rodarte En Pointe

Rodarte En Pointe

The first images from Daron Aronofsky’s Black Swan have surfaced. Rodarte’s Kate and Laura Mulleavy designed costumes for the entire ballet corps and if that isn’t exciting enough, the film was recently chosen to open the Venice Film Festival on September 1st. The ballet thriller (why not?), stars Natalie Portman and my secret girl crush, Mila Kunis as two ballerinas dancing in Swan Lake. As a fan of Aronofsky’s work (Ellen Burstyn was robbed of an Oscar for Requiem for a Dream), I can’t wait for this. Black Swan sounds like a modern day The Red Shoes (if you haven’t seen it, Netflix that shit ASAP), the classic about a beautiful and talented ballerina who dies for her art. Meanwhile, Winona Ryder is thankfully still alive and is featured as the prima ballerina who steps down so Portman can grand jeté all over the place. Rounding out the strong, mostly female cast is Babs Hershey, as Portman’s overbearing mother. I’m gagging already thinking of all the red carpet looks and I naturally expect to see a strong Rodarte showing.

Rodarte + Aronofsky = Black Swan

Edited by

Word on the street is that the upcoming Darren Aronofsky film, Black Swan, will open the Venice Film Festival on Sept 1st. So – what’s cooler than a ballet/psychological thriller starring Natalie Portman? The answer, my loves, are the 40 costumes IN the movie that Rodarte designed for the movie’s entire ballet corps.
According to an IMDB movie synopsis, Portman plays Nina, a ballerina chosen in the lead of an NYC production of Swan Lake who has new competition in a rival dancer played by Mila Kunis. The two dancers maintain a twisted friendship and Portman goes to some dark lengths in order to keep her top spot. I’m officially dying to see this movie, but the inclusion of these Rodarte costumes have turned it into visual porno. Only a few photos have been released and I can’t wait to see more. This is one girl who LOVES a tutu.

Look at the hem and length of that tutu. Sigh.

It’s no secret that sisters Laura and Kate Mulleavy have an undying love for film. In the past, they have taken inspiration from Frankenstein (circa 1931), Japanese horror flicks, etc. Besides, costume design seems like the natural progression for Rodarte as their runway shows are performances in their own right. This is Rodarte’s first foray into film, but I am SURE that it won’t be their last.

MUST HAVE: Celebrity Hair?

Edited by

Yes, that’s right.  Apparently celebrity hair is the new thing for filthy rich people to toss dolla dolla bills at as evidenced by someone dropping an astounding $13k on a lock of Napoleon‘s hair.  Who’s locks, Fashion Indie readers, would you drop that kind of coin on?  Picks (and pics) post-jump.

RUNWAY: Rodarte Fall/Winter 2010

RUNWAY: Rodarte Fall/Winter 2010

Rodarte’s layered flowey pieces left me almost speechless, especially since the finale literally glowed in the dark under black light. Romantic, feminine, and almost bridal worthy, the clothes seem to take on a life of their own as they drift down a runway lit by candlelight and sprinkled in white confetti.

Front row included Tavi, Bryan Boy, Anna Wintour, Grace Coddington, Natalie Portman, Kristen Dunst, Jason Schwartzman, Scott Schuman and Garance Dore.

Natalie Portman Loves Rodarte

Natalie Portman Loves Rodarte

Yesterday, we posted a style pic of Natalie Portman in Rodarte for Target (middle photo), and it’s not the first time she’s rocked a dress from Kate and Laura Mulleavy. Looks like it’s a love/love relationship between Natalie and the brand.
