Here we have a prime example:

Now one of my favorite bag poses of late has to be from the Spring 10 Gucci ads, featuring Natasha Poly and Ryan Kennedy:

There’s a lot going on in this picture and it’s all genius, but my eye is drawn immediately to that Gucci tote in Poly’s extended branch of an arm. And then to her freakishly long, pin-thin legs. But first the bag. Dangling there in all its glory.

Remember kids, it’s a prop, so don’t be afraid to use it. Throw it around! Hide behind it! Wear it as a hat! Cradle it as a baby! Just sell that goddamn bag.

And that concludes today’s lesson. Next time we’ll be talking about modeling a shoe. A test will follow.

Prince Pierre Casiraghi

At Double Seven, a club in the Meatpacking District — New York’s most elegant dumpster —  Monaco’s Prince Pierre Casiraghi, third in line to the throne and grandson of Grace Kelly, was poppin’ bottles with pals Diego Marroquin, noted Carine Roitfeld scion Vladimir Restoin-Roitfeld, Paris Hilton‘s ex-boyfriend Stavros Niarchos and his current girlfriend, model Jessica Hart.

In the other corner, Adam Hock  owner of the now-defunct Hawaiian Tropic Zone — okay, “man of the people” might have been a stretch –was livin’ it up with supermodels Anja Rubik and Natasha Poly, ordinary model Valentina Zelyaeva and Poly’s husband Peter Bakker at the table of Double Seven owner, Jeffrey Jah.

Accounts vary on who instigated the confrontation and why. In one version of the story, Casiraghi and co. were upset they weren’t seated at Jah’s table, presumably the best table in the house, and rolled up on team Hock. There they started getting all kinds of aggressive and even dared to drink from Hock’s $500 bottle of Grey Goose — I mean, people have died for less.

Another version has it that Hock just hulked out for no reason and started throwing haymakers. Still another chalks it all up to everyone being too drunk and not knowing what the hell was going on.

What is clear, however, is that Prince Pierre Casiraghi got his shit seriously rocked. Hock knocked him across the room, broke his jaw, leaving him — as one witness puts it — “disfigured” — and sending him to the hospital. At one point, someone even tried to hit Hock with a bottle of vodka, but that just made Hock angry. Then he beat up the prince’s three friends before the models — god bless them — broke it up.

Of course that act of altruism didn’t stop Jessica Hart from reportedly screaming at Natasha Poly later on the street: “Your husband’s a loser! Fuck you!” But that’s neither here nor there.

After spending two days in jail and being charged with four counts of assault, Hock still claims that he’s the real victim here: “I acted 100% in self-defence. I felt I had to defend the honor of the women I was with,” he told the Daily News. A point that Jessica Hart openly — via Twitter — denies.

Hock for his part is playing the role well:

“I feel I was victimized by several drunk, entitled guys who felt they deserved the prime table with the most beautiful girls. They expected to be treated like the royalty they are. They didn’t get what they wanted, and it pissed them off.”

Perhaps a little too well:

“I am concerned these guys will make my life difficult. I imagine they are sitting with their parents strategizing how to destroy me. I am getting married in June. I want to start a family. I don’t want enemies like this.”

Well, you gotta point there, Hock. Carine Roitfeld can have Karl Lagerfeld on the phone in one second and from there it’s a slippery, Chanel-upholstered chute straight to hell.

Sorrenti is actually the first Italian to photograph the Pirelli Calendar, whose past lensmen have included Herb Ritts (1994, 1999), Richard Avedon (1995, 1997), Bruce Weber (1998, 2003), Annie Leibovitz (2000), Mario Testino (2001), Peter Lindbergh (1996, 2002), Patrick Demarchelier (2005, 2008), Mert and Marcus (2006), Inez and Vinoodh (2007), Terry Richardson (2010) and last year, Karl Lagerfeld.

For the shoot in Corsica, Sorrenti chose mostly women with whom he had previously worked, including supermodel among supermodels Kate Moss, whom the photographer has known for some 20 years — the two worked together on the iconic Calvin Klein “Obsession” campaign when Sorrenti was just 21 and Moss was practically still in diapers. In the “Making of ” short film that preceded a Q&A with Sorrenti, he remarked that he “couldn’t do this without her.”

- The always pragmatic Rachel Zoe came to Paris Fashion Week with 11 suitcases. Because those caftans and block wedges aren’t going to fly transatlantic by themselves. [Fashionista]

- Tom Ford, in a position to which he has grown suspiciously accustomed, for Russian GQ. [Image Amplified]

- An Irish farmer kicked a scantily-clad Rihanna off his land, hoping RiRi and her friends “acquaint themselves with a greater God,” i.e. Beyoncé. [BBC]

- Crystal Renn was accused of being too skinny by a plus-sized designer; there have been worse insults. [Fashionista]

- Natasha Poly, 52 years after entering the game (in model time) , is the hardest working model of Milan Fashion Week. [The Cut]

-  Models Agyness Deyn and David Gandy and designer Henry Holland ran the London Marathon on Sunday. Holland shut it down with a time of 3h 28m — maybe his running gear had something to do with it. Gandy came in with a time of 4h  35m and Aggy in 4h 45m, despite bad knees from a skiing accident and running in 5-inch heels, respectively. [Vogue UK]

- Jason Wu clearly needs to get into the prom dress business. After dressing Karlie Kloss in 2009, the designer outfitted junior super Lindsey Wixon for the prom over the weekend. - The bride wore Givenchy. Natasha Poly married her fiancé in Saint Tropez with the aid of Riccardo Tisci‘s elegant tailoring, a natural choice for the Givenchy regular. Poly looked gorgeous and her new husband…clearly has a lot of money. What? Love may be blind, but I’m not. [Modelina]

- Sister Act on Broadway means two things: 1.) Me front-row screaming “His Eye Is on the Sparrow” and 2.) 7,000 Swarovski crystals running through 23 of the show’s costumes. Patina Miller will don the sparkling habit when she makes her Broadway debut as Deloris Van Cartier, the role originated by EGOT-er and professional grumpygoose, Whoops Goldberg. [Racked]

- Lady Gaga‘s newest single “Judas” leaked on the internet and The Catholic League is already up on the cross about it. The song will be officially released tomorrow, the 19th and the accompanying video will feature Gaga portraying Mary Magdalene. The League had harsh words for the hitmaker, calling her “irrelevant” and “boring.” Meanwhile, pot meet kettle. [Hollywood Life]

Wait, you mean the brand that was the most frequently used on the cover of Vogue in 2010? Not that we’re complaining much, but it’s a little predictable, and not quite… French.

And guess who’s photographing? Inez van Lamsweerde et Vinoodh Matadin. Again, not complaining, but they too were the most frequently used photographers for Vogue covers in 2010.

Emmanuelle, please take these reigns you’ve earned, and steer. We love what’s been done, but please introduce us to something new.

Spring explodes in a riot of color and pattern.  From floral and leopard to houndstooth and psychedelic, supermodel Natasha Poly wears the prints.  They never wear her.

The love the balance of black and white and colored photographs featured in this spread. The amazing clothing used includes spring 2011 looks by Versace, Christopher Kane, Celine, Jil Sander, Balenciaga by Nicolas Ghesquiere, Miu Miu, Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci, Prada and Giorgio Armani.

Racked‘s “very well-placed” sources, claim:

[T]he magazine’s parent company was unhappy with all the bad press surrounding Roitfeld’s alleged pay-for-play scandals…demanding huge sums of money for extracurricular consulting gigs and the enormous, public embarrassment of being banned from Balenciaga last season for abusing her position at Vogue. In the latter case, Roitfeld allegedly borrowed Balenciaga preview pieces and sent them to her client, Max Mara, to copy…”

Then there’s that other scandal with ANDAM winner Hakaan:

“An angry anonymous letter, which was circulated among French media this week, asked “how a Turkish designer out of nowhere books Natalia Vodianova, Maria Carla Boscono, Lara Stone or Natasha Poly for his show—models asking €15.000 min per show, and who aren’t really famous for their charity!”

Roitfeld also made an unprecedented move by showing up to Hakaan’s first show with Kate Moss in tow. And then there’s that other scandal involving LVMH Chairman and CEO Bernard Arnault, who “allegedly threatened Conde Nast International Chairman Jonathan Newhouse with the removal of all LVMH ads from the next issue of” French Vogue after the last issue (edited by Tom Ford) apparently didn’t contain enough LVMH ad credits and exercised “poor taste” in this editorial.

As for rumors that Carine will be working with Ford on his new womenswear line, Ford recently told the New York Times Cathy Horyn:

“Carine and I have no plans to work together at the moment, and it is nothing that we have even discussed, but of course I think she is brilliant and we are close friends so who knows about the future.”

Well, I guess Heidi Klum‘s been right all along. In fashion one day you’re Anna Wintour and the next, you’re …Carine Roitfeld. It will be interesting to see how this story unfolds, who will succeed Carine (Emmanuelle Alt is apparently not an option) and where Carine lands, besides inevitably on her stilettoed feet.

The self-made, rough-and-tumble glamour of Courtney Love couldn’t feel more of-the-moment. In an ode to the queen of grunge, whose album is out this month, supermodel Natasha Poly piles on the ruffles, prints, and girlish fineries of spring.

Although the release date has yet to be announced, “Nobody’s Daughter,” the fourth studio album by Hole, is set for release later this month. V63 does not hit newsstands until January 14, 2010.

For the June/July 2009 issue of Paris Vogue, Anja Rubik and Natasha Poly are on the move in “A Toutes Jambes,” a sexy, whimsical editorial with lots of velocity.

Styled by Emmanuelle Alt and shot by Terry Richardson, the bright spread showcases sheer patterned legwear.

Anja Rubik also takes the cover of the issue.

The May 2009 issue of Vogue is the Steven Meisel-shot “Model Issue,” and features a pull-out cover with “The Faces of the Moment.” (Is it just me, or is Natalia Vodianova having the longest moment ever?!)

It’s great, of course, to see models on a US cover (especially since not one of them is American!) but so many of these names are established already.  

The cover features Liya Kebede, Natalia Vodianova, Anna Jagodzinska, Isabeli Fontana, Lara Stone, Jourdan Dunn, Raquel Zimmermann, Caroline Trentini and Natasha Poly.

You can never go wrong with black and white. This simple seamless backdrop brings all the attention to the intricate designs of the dresses and jutting collarbones of the models, Vanderperre did a great job with ‘Venus Envy.’

This editorial shoot for V Magazine has a creepy quality, with a few mascara-running shots worthy of a horror film, but nonetheless, the washed out skin tones and contrasting black and white dresses bring together fantasy dreams and nightmares.

Carine Roitfeld  has been putting new models on the cover of important issues of French Vogue, like March and September. For example: Natasha Poly snagged both March & September for 07, Lara Stone did March 08.

LINKAGE: Rock the Trend

Buzz kill central right here! I’ll be the first to admit that I am getting pretty damn excited for New York Fashion Week to kick off this upcoming weekend, but when I saw these images over at Fashin Fags, I remembered how damn stressful and not so awesome it can become sometimes. I wasn’t too familiar with this story from last year’s Diesel Black Gold show, but it’s worth bringing up again. Check out these images of Natasha Poly breaking out in tears after she showed up just minutes before the start of the show. She had all the hair and makeup artists working on her as she broke into tears after Renzo Russo reamed her out for being late.

I have always admired Jil Sander advertisements because they have this loud, simplistic mood to them that is like no other. And the campaign for spring/summer 09 is no exception. Shot by Willy Vanderparre featuring models Natasha Poly and Douglas Jewell, these black and white photos need no explanation. The silhouettes of her designs look flawless against the stark white background. Check out the earring Poly is wearing; straight-up badass.

This Missoni ad is both beautiful and slightly disturbing to me. Steven Meisel photographed models Natasha Poly and Isabeli Fontana for the label’s latest campaign. I love the bright colors of the fabrics against the neutral tan sand. But the angle at which it’s shot combined with their makeup almost make them appear dead. I mean, not in a rotting corpse kind of way but something about it disturbs me. Don’t get me wrong though, I like it.

Natasha Poly for Blumarine’s fall winter 2008/09 advertising campaign.

Photographed by Craig McDean, it’s not the gorgeous clothes that has me loving the new edge in the Italian fashion houses ads. It’s the fact that Poly is sporting the much talked about hair cut for the year, The Aggy, named after Agyness Deyn’s shaggy crop.

I am soooo sick of this hairstyle! Honestly, not all models have to inspire to look like Aggy, and the cut is making girls look like boys, not very attractive considering that models are supposed to be the pinnacle of beauty and grace.
