Début is sparsely arranged to feel like a gallery, built to give each designer a proper artist’s display. Storeowner Lisa Weiss frequently hears from new customers, I’ve passed by it so many times and just never came in! I wasn’t entirely sure it was a store. Let her hear that no more. This incredible little-known and selectively merchandised store sparked my desire to explore the best boutiques in New York, and take you shopping with me. Piece by piece. Designer by designer. LOOK ONE: Swim Slung Salsa

The Skirt: Heikki Salonen, $585

Look closely. This is not just a dress. In fact, it’s no dress at all, unless you were to pull that skirt up above the bosom and belt it, á la yesteryear’s silhouette. This swingy, deep pocketed, ruffled and raw chiffon hemmed skirt is by Finish-born, London-shown designer Heikki Salonen. Though the skirt looked familiarly pleasing at the waist, I’ve slung it fresh at my very low hip, stretching the length to ankle height.

The Top: Lisa Marie Fernandez, $385

The top is also, in fact, no top at all. It is a bathing suit by Lisa Marie Fernandez. Made of neoprene. The shape recalls forties swimwear while the material calls more for a surf instructor and/or scuba gear. Wear it to swim, wear it to dinner. If you were Gaga, you’d wear it alone to both.

The Necklace: Orly Genger by Jaclyn Mayer, $325

The black and white speckled neon rope tied necklace topped the texture twist. This innovative jewelry from Orly Genger by Jaclyn Mayer is made of entirely hand woven climbing ropes; the knotting techniques are stemmed from those used in artist Orly Genger’s sculptures. The jewelry is a collaborative effort of the two.

Loulou de la Falaise (Louise Vava Lucia Henriette de la Falaise) has long been one of my favorite ladies of fashion. Aside from having one of the most elegant names, she was friend, muse and collaborator to the late Yves Saint Laurent. It’s said that she grew up in the world of high fashion, as her mother, Maxime was a noted “fashion swan” as well as model for Schiaparelli. The effortlessly, chic and stylish Loulou runs her Paris boutique, Maison de Loulou, while creating fabulous jewelry and other items for HSN. She too is a source of inspiration, as a designer and woman of incredible style. I would love to visit her boutique in Paris…..I’m sure that it’s akin to a treasure chest filled with splendid pieces. Featured are some of latest creations from HSN, as well as two pieces taken from WWD.

“I was thinking of romantic summer parties,” said Loulou de la Falaise of her exquisite costume jewelry collection for L’Eclaireur, Rêverie d’un Soir d’Eté (A Midsummer Night’s Reverie), made from colored glass and gilded copper. The designer, working with the French atelier l’Air du Verre, came up with pieces that dance with intoxicating colors, from a double necklace with vivid “Gaudi-esque” mosaic squares to a cross necklace inspired by the Greek island of Santorini with translucent honey and amber beads. Another necklace works Murano glass beads with flower motifs and leaves partly colored in with glass, while figurative doves in pearly lilac and white finishes form charming pendants. The pieces are on view at L’Eclaireur’s Rue Boissy d’Anglas flagship.

Browsing through shopstyle.com, I ran across some beautiful and reasonably priced pieces. That gorgeous necklace from Express is just $148…..definitely a standout piece! Bebe’s feather necklace is another “perfect statement,” and it retails for $65…..such detail! This is actually my first time seeing the Kardashian jewelry (I don’t know how I could have missed it, because I’m sure there was much fanfare surrounding it’s launch), and I really love their offerings. The designs have that kind of “medieval” vibe…..very unique. Mod Cloth’s River rapids necklace is $15.99 and the Romanova ring is $10.99…both look much more expensive. And that Fiona Paxton, she can do no wrong, as the beautiful pieces just keep coming! The Roarke fringe necklace is another “piece of spectacular,” with the bold colors of a scarf, and the look of a collar. I’ll just say it, they’re all fabulous!
