Bergdorf Goodman, a subsidiary of Neiman Marcus, came in second with a respectable 8.37 while Barneys brings up the rear with an 8.23, according to the 2012 Luxury Consumer Experience Index (LCEI).

Nordstrom is also the most visited retailer with 36% of surveyed shoppers having glided through one of its locations within the past 12 months. The Seattle-based department store also ranked highest in customer retention, with 96% of respondents claiming they would shop there again and another 94% likely to recommend Nordstrom to friends and family.

“Retailers, especially in luxury, are selling experiences to customers more than they are selling any particular good,” says Luxury Institute CEO Milton Pedraza. “In the case of a retailer like Nordstrom, we see that a program of continuous improvement in the customer experience can lead to higher degrees of loyalty and improved financial performance.”

In comparison, only 6% of shoppers visited Bergdorf Goodman and 7% shopped at Barneys, though the study suggests this exclusivity helps ratchet up the pricing. While 76% of Bergdorf shoppers and 74% of Barneys shoppers felt that the stores’ goods were of a “significant price premium,” only 65% of Nordstrom devotees felt the same about its offerings.

Nighttime shopping has grown in popularity, with order volumes peaking around 8 pm and the number of orders between 9 pm and midnight increasing from previous years. On eBay, the busiest time of day is between 6:30 pm and 10:30 pm, when the customer is allegedly in a “good mood” (read: has had a few).  Gilte Group has added more sales beginning at 9 pm in response to higher traffic while retailers such as Neiman Marcus, Loews and Saks inundate customers’ email inboxes with special offers and deals throughout the night and into the early morning.

It speaks to logic that people are less tight with the purse strings after they’ve tied one on; when that sequined jumpsuit you’ve been eyeing for the past month or so suddenly seems like a life or death purchase and you just say “to hell with it” and add it to your cart. The article is quick to point out that drunk shopping in stores is more rare than online, but speaking from personal experience, there’s nothing better than walking into an H&M with a cocktail in hand and daring the salesgirl to say something to you. And on the rare occasion they do, that’s when you throw both a violent tantrum and your drink in their insolent faces. [NYT]

Personally, I stopped watching Project Runway as soon as it hopped from Bravo to Lifetime,  deciding along the way that a season in L.A. was a good idea, but this new spin-off series could bring some much-needed fresh air into the franchise.

The All-Stars will compete for a handsome set of prizes, the most lucrative in Runway history: “an exclusive designer boutique in select Neiman Marcus stores and on neimanmarcus.com; $100,000 in technology and office space to help expand their business from HP and Intel; $100,000 cash from L’Oréal Paris; a feature spread in Marie Claire, for which he or she will serve as a guest editor for one year, and a sewing and embroidery studio provided by Brother International.” Well, at least they made returning to the scene of one’s former and very public embarrassment suitably enticing.

Anna Sui is getting in on the action to help commemorate Hanky Panky’s silver milestone with an “Anna Sui Celebrates Hanky Panky” seven-piece collection in a special print launching this September. Sui is a fan of the brand and said it “epitomizes creativity, style and true quality – three things that have been the cornerstone of my work as a designer.”

Classy! But did you know the name Hanky Panky wasn’t always considered a household staple? Stores like Bergdorf Goodman and Neiman Marcus would not buy the product line in the 80s because they thought the name was too risqué. But the indie boutiques knew what was up. “Pants were getting tighter and tighter… I really do believe that women saw how unattractive a visible panty line was,” Epstein told WWD. She noted that specialty boutiques embraced the idea of thongs.

The Mod Squad would have adopted me in a heartbeat in this Montaldo Op Art dress.  I fell in love with the digital print, it was so eye catching and well, trippy.  Bubbled sleeves and a high neck are hard to pull off without looking like Julie Andrews, but this psychedelic wonderland of a dress with slim cuts made it utterly chic.  I fell in love with the leather wedges and actually scooped them up for myself (sorry shoppers!).

1. Nude is a no-show. White undergarments do not disappear under white garments, so get the idea out of your head. Unless you’re going for the whole “look at my underwear” thing and are positive you can pull it off, wear nude undergarments when you see color is showing through your clothes. Chantelle Icone T-Shirt Bra in Skin combines comfort, style and function. As for underwear, Commando Low-Rise Girl Shorts in True Nude and Hanky Panky Lace Thong in Nude are both excellent options.

2. If show-through is your thing, keep it one color. The sheer trend is big, especially when letting your undergarments show through a dress. I am all about it and ready to partake come summer, but don’t channel the rainbow. Stick with one color, or block of colors, for both your bra and panties. The VPL Insertion Bra and matching VPL Convexity Undi are meant to be shown and great if you’re looking for a bright spring statement. 3. Smooth with a slip. Gone are the days when women wore slips under everything, which isn’t a bad thing per se. But remember, slips smooth-out lumps and bumps under clingy fabrics and body-conscious designs. With a plethora of adorable and sexy slips on the market today, there is no excuse to look your best in the teeniest spring dress. 4. Say no to visible panty lines. This is simplest, yet most readily broken rule. If you’re wearing tight pants, WEAR A THONG. 5. Conceal your bra straps. There’s nothing wrong with your bra casually peeking out from a weekday tank top, but for the love of God, don’t let it show when you’re all dolled-up and fancy. There are plenty of comfortable options out there that convert into many different styles, so all you need is one or two to start. As far as convertible options go, Donna Karan Luxe Solutions Halter Bra, Natori Body Options Convertible Bra and Huit Cupcake Bandeau Bra are some of the best. Bodhi‘s ventures into men’s, luggage and tech pieces come full circle in Fall 2011 with iPad case easels, briefcases and duffles in embossed croc, pinstripe flannel and camouflage cool. As one of the first brands to launch a chic tech collection, Bodhi’s “fashion meets function” attitude is heightened with SLR camera bags, MacBook cases, e-reader holders and more in the sleek finishes found throughout the women’s and men’s collections. The Bodhi travel collection can now be purchased at Bloomingdale’s and Neiman Marcus stores.

Right before Fashion Week “officially” commenced Fashion Indie was invited to the THEIA Fall 2011 presentation.We were treated to a lovely presentation of the collection by Creative Director, Don O’Neill. The collection was inspired by the Greek god Theia who possessed  the incredible power of light. You can see the inspiration of this through the glimmering designs on the dresses. All of the dresses from the cocktail frocks to the full length gowns were giving a sense of beauty, elegance, and pizazz. The girl who wears a THEIA dress is bound to be noticed the second she steps into a room.

The best part of the presentation had to be seeing the original sketches of the collection. It is completely fascinating to see how a dress goes from paper to real life.

From the looks of the collection it wouldn’t be surprising to see a lot of the dresses hitting the red carpets this season.

According to WWD, creative director Jo Black’s team of 14 designers crafted two looks, Hudson and Fairfax, both made of acetate, high-nickel and stainless steel, with oversize black frames. Hudson is intended to be a variation of the classic aviator shape, and Fairfax is inspired by a cat-eye silhouette.

The sunglasses collection is slated to release this November priced from $155 to $265, there will also be a limited edition version of the Fairfax (pictured above) with 24 karat-gold-coated lenses, will retail for $425 at select doors. The collection will be available at stores including Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman and Harvey Nichols. Word around the street is that their Spring 2011 collection will be topping this one!

What can we expect from one of the youngest pair of successful people in this world… all I know it I’m definitely snagging a couple pairs!

Joan doesn’t believe in the JRE (“That is such nonsense.”), but she does believe in speaking her mind:

“No one says anything bad [about celebrities] — they’re not going to say, ‘Your ass is too big, and you shouldn’t be wearing that color, and you look like a fool.’ You can’t say that so what’s the point of doing the red carpet?”

Luckily we have her dishing out the sass on E!‘s Fashion Police weekly. And that sass comes from a loving place – where that place is I could not even begin to guess, but it’s full of love. As proof, Joan admits that she is worried about the direction certain starlets are taking in their wardrobe selection:

“…[T]hey’re all trying to copy Lady Gaga. You want to say to Katy Perry, ‘You’re beautiful! You’ve got the body, wear a pretty dress. You don’t have to strap electrical stuff on your dress.’”

If anyone should say something to Katy Perry, it’s Joan. I want her swooping down from the rafters, gathering that slutty pop tart in her talons, imprisoning her in Neiman Marcus and showing her what a lady looks like. For, despite her dirty mouth and caustic wit, Joan Rivers is a classy broad:

“I am very formal. I mean, I’ll sit down with finger bowls. I think you should sit down, and a meal should be an event — it should be pretty. Everything should be pretty. Life is very rough, and I think you should make everything around you as lovely as possible.”

This from the same woman who called Betty White a “schemey little bitch.”

WWD recently asked some fashion heavyweights to give their definitions of “cheap finds”. While everyone provided actual tips like Margiela inspired looks at Costco (Vena Cava) or $35 Ninja Pants from Chinatown (Philip Lim), Ken Downing SVP/Fashion Director of Neiman Marcus had this to say…

“At Neiman Marcus we have Fab Finds, which are great deals! Great design, amazing quality, at a price that puts a smile on the customer’s face. My favorites this season: Lanvin leopard jersey dress, $990, and from Narciso Rodriguez, olive knit silk and Lycra dress, $850.”

I just don’t think this is what they are talking about when they think “cheap”, but I guess when you run the land of “Needless Markups” it’s important to remember that some people are rich enough to consider $1000 bucks cheap…

Bryna Howes of Mama’s a Rolling Stone notices one thing missing from The Zoe Report. These phenomenal boots Little Miss Vertigo made in collaboration with Brian Atwood, which are now available at Neiman Marcus and NeimanMarcus.com.

The boots are signature Zoe – black suede calfskin that clings to the leg, embellished with a long line of luxe metal chain that runs from the thigh to the tip of the stiletto heel. Of course, these luxe details do come at a price: $2,900 to be exact.

As promised, here are the photos, swatches and reviews of one the best fall 2010 releases, Le Metier de Beaute Le Cirque Kaleidoscope Eye Kit. Is it the color combination? the finish? the way they all blend together to create a flattering and elegant look? It's all of the above, really, combined with high quality and Le Metier's way of creating pigments that are almost sheer but very visible and identifiable.

As always, the eye shadows can be used separately. However, applying them layered in the order they come (top to bottom), using smaller amounts of the darkest color while getting closer to the lash line and blending is what gives the prettiest and most polished results: no color screams at you, but there’s a lot of depth and definition.

Flamboyantes, the shimmering stone color, is great for highlighting and dabbing in the inner corner of the eye. But I often skip it when going for a casual daytime look in favor of a simple nude eye shadow that opens up the eye area with less drama. The way to apply the other shades depends on the shape of your eye, crease and lid. It's impossible to give one-size-fits-all directions, because we all have different needs. My eyes are big, deep-set with a very visible upper lid. I apply Spectacle from the lashes up to just above the crease (in a half circle shape) and blend it upwards, then Enrichssant  in the crease and Dynamique just above the lash line and wing it a outwards. Because Spectacle and Enrichssant aren't too dark, the look is especially flattering for my eye shape. Those who need to darken things in the crease would blend more Dynamique into the other colors. That's exactly what makes Le Metier de Beaute's Kaleidoscopes so great- they work with minor adjustments for just about anyone.

Over an eye primer, the eye shadows hold without fading or losing vibrancy from morning to night. While the texture is very soft and tends to disintegrates a little in the pan (as you can see in the photos taken after some use), there’s no fallout on the face and application is very clean.

Le Metier de Beaute Le Cirque Kaleidoscope Eye Kit ($95) should already be available at Bergdorf Goodman and some Neiman Marcus locations, though not online yet. I’d suggest calling your nearest counter to inquire (Bergdorf also takes phone orders). I received the press sample from the company.

Up to 75 dresses from Victoria Beckham’s S/S 2010 collection were stolen at knife-point from a delivery van en route to Neiman Marcus.

Lindsay Lohan is apparently ‘sucking the life‘ out of Ungaro. The label has been dropped from two major retailers for Spring 2010; neither Neiman Marcus or Net-a-Porter want to carry the next Ungaro collection.
