FIRST LOOK: New York Couture Fairy-tale Collection

The latest collection from New York Couture is undoubtedly every little girl’s fantasy. The whimsy of all things fanciful, from unicorns to cupcakes and sparkles to fairy tale stories is abundant, and, as usual, New York Couture has embedded a sexy, body conscious appeal that makes these fairy tale pieces more relatable and wearable for adults.
RUNWAY: New York Couture, Webster Hall Party for Spring 2010

Friday night marked the annual New York Couture show and party at Webster Hall, and let me say it was one crazy night! The model’s hair and makeup (Done by: Daniel Koninsky, Perry Foulke, Erica, Kristin Jackson and Dee) was insane, complete with heart-shaped lips and faux hairballs, these models looked like they were from another planet. The new line was a technicolor dream, as to be expected from our friend Cassie. She definitely stepped it up this year with some surprises (like the ruffled ankle cuffs), and the party wasn’t too bad either!

Katy Perry Shows Some New York Couture Love!

A great friend of mine, Cassie, the designer for New York Couture sent me some pretty exciting news today, and I thought it should be relayed to all our wonderful readers. It just so happens that Miss Katy Perry has been showing her love for New York Couture on her current tour, and why not? The latest collection, from the ever so creative Cassie, is right up Perry’s ally with bold designs and sexy, frilly pieces. I’m so glad to see a friend like Cassie doing so well, and I congratulate her on her success.

Before They Had Stylists: Katy Perry

After:
Though Katy Perry herself has a very unique style, it is quite apparent a few adjustments have been made in her look of late. She has always been a mix between Amy Winehouse and Dita Von Teese in my eyes, and I think her new look only reinforces that view. When your debut single tops the charts for ten or so weeks, your label is willing to toss some extra money your way, and it looks like Katy spent it well on a good stylist. Katy is constantly seen wearing young, up-and-coming, indie designers which we love so much about her. She has also been seen rocking some New york Couture as well!
We Like To Party! We Like, We Like To Party!

For all of you who weren’t there (or don’t remember being there), Fashion Indie was proud to be a part of what was easily the biggest party of Fashion Week, and possibly the year. With over 3,000 people in attendence, New York Couture hit the runway showing off their Spring/Summer 2009 line. Joining the party were special guests Lumidee, The Chimney Climbers, and Neon Hitch. Drinks were free and flowing and from the looks of it from where I was sitting everyone was having an amazing time. Be sure to check out the rest of the pictures in the gallery to check out the party.
Fashion Indie would like to thank all the sponsors, New York Couture, and everyone who came out to the party. Without you guys this amazing night would not have happened.
Runway Rundown: New York Couture

New York Couture did it again with (by far) the most exciting show I have ever seen. Everything from the bright colors, crazy designs, big poofy skirts and diamonds in the chains was a direct representation of the lifestyle that New York Couture’s designer, Cassie K, is all about. These are amazing one of a kind pieces that will get you noticed without a doubt. Audrey Kitching (the face of New York Couture) was even seen strutting her stuff down the runway with nothing more than a pastie covering her nipple. There aren’t enough positive words in the dictionary for me to use to describe the show, the environment, New York Couture and Cassie in general. Everything about this show was great, and for all of you who missed it be sure to check out all the pictures our wonderful photographer Rick Louis snapped. Look forward to seeing more pictures and articles about the show soon.
Be sure to check out the New York Couture Website for more information!
Fashion Indie Catches The Eye Of BBC!

BBC was at the office shooting some video for the Brooklyn Bridge show on Tuesday, and their full video coverage hit the web today. Check out the link below for some hot video of our models stomping the bridge, as well as some interview with models and designers. Not quite the same experience as being there, but that’s your own dumb fault for not coming!
Check out the vid here!
Thanks BBC for everything the video totally rules!
Aggy Supports Fashion Indie

This just in…
Aggy Deyn was spotted buying a handmade owl frock by New York Couture (kind of like the one showcased on the Brooklyn Bridge last night) at the Dressing Room Boutique & Bar (one of our fave boutiques, shout out to designer Alisha Trimble for reping the spot hard) on the Lower East Side.
And since we are hosting the humongous New York Couture show next Wed at Mansion (mark your calendars) maybe Aggy the Great will make an appearance. Guess you’ll have to be there to find out.
Thank NY Post
FIWB Designer Showcase: New York Couture

As seen on MTV: New York Couture is a harmonious blend of punk-rock cool, ultra-glam and prima ballerina. The collections of mostly cotton skirts, tops and dresses are all limited edition or one-of-a-kind pieces that bring out the rock-goddess and fairy princess in every wear. New York Couture has been featured in well known magazines such as Star, ELLE, NYLON, and has been worn by celebrities such as singer Katy Perry, actress Leelee Sobieski, singer Lumidee, model/actress Vanessa Simmons (Run DMC’s daughter) and more!
I Kissed An Italian Designer’s Ass And I Liked It!

Katy Perry must be kissing more than girls lately seeing as though she landed herself in the spotlight of Milan Fashion Week with Dolce & Gabbana. Apparently she is too good for Mercedes Fashion Week and Fashion Indie Week Brooklyn seeing as though she won’t be participating. She totally sold out on Fashion Indie and her friends at New York Couture by not performing at, what may be the largest event during Fashion Week, the New York Couture fashion show at Mansion! Now since we heard she flaked out on us, we have decided to replace her with a ton of other performers that you won’t want to miss so be sure to come. Until then can we please try to de-throne Katy from the number one song on the charts, lets be honest we’re all over that song.
MTV True Life : I’m Going to Fashion Week on SATURDAY at 2PM

Time to set your TIVO’s Indies!!! The MTV True Life episode featuring the fashion show we hosted for Cassie Kogler of New York Couture premieres on Saturday. Cassie is one of our faves and is without a doubt an indie darling and amazing designer. We can’t wait to see the result of MTV’s camera’s on the girl 24/7 for one full month.
Gotta love it!!!
Also, big, huge major, major shout out to our favorite person in the world Segment Producer, Amy Bonezzi for making this happen. After she found the love story theme between Daniel Saynt and Rebecca Alexander theme to be a bit “not right” for this episode, she still stuck with us eventually filming the designer we were working with on this fashion week blow-out!!!
Street Hero: NY Fashion Week Day One & Two

What a f*cking whirlwind it’s been!!! So I started this NY Fashion Week a bit unexcited. Heatherette was out. Marc seemed to be missing. And the only thing remotely interesting seemed to be Chloe Sevgny at Webster Hall, which believe me isn’t that exciting since my only memory of the Hall comes from when I was 18 and throwing up chunks in some upstairs bathroom. I guess that would explain earlier posts signifying my pre-exaustion.
Day one came and I slept in. I missed opening ceremony with the Lipstick Jungle girls and ran to the tents just in time to grab my pass before Duckie Brown. That collection disappointed (sorry boys, I know I suck) and the next thing to look forward to was a meeting with my lawyers (we’ve been discussing the legal blah blah of a merger with Trendible.com. Go there, join and tell your friends). Heading back to the office in the pouring rain, I thought it was only right to curse the heavens as a speediant cab drove me past the tents at just the right time to see a bevy of paparazzis snapping at somenobody from One Tree Hill or America’s Next Top Porn Star.
At the office we quickly regrouped. Busie to Yeolee at the New Museum and the rest of us to meet with Cassie of New York Couture and the MTV True Life crew (yeah Indies we are being filmed by True Life!!!). If you don’t know New York Couture, get to know it. This girl is the next Heatherette and her show next week will feature the very best in new artists, drag queens and live performances. We walked through sound and lighting for the show and made sure that timing was okay. Jessica interviewed Cassie (seriously this girl can be an anchor, someone hire her) and we made our way out of Rebel to head to Edwing D’Anglo’s “Awakening” show.
After about an hour and a half, Amanda Lepore randomly strolled in. We stopped caring and headed out early since the place was packed with non-industry types and we completely couldn’t miss our “Project Runway” secret show. Bumped into Christian (the kid), Jack (the Flashdancer), and Jay (season one). Fell in love with Elisa (she is too cute).
Victorya Hong showed a collection which was even “too safe” for Banana Republic. After, we ran to the tents to see Venexiana. Rebecca’s addiction to fur was in high force as the collection played through. Early on we saw some strong pieces but later on the beauty queen/My Super Sweet 16 dresses failed to impress. After we congratulated Kati Stern, said hi to Malan Breton (our Project Runway favorite who’s showing at the tents this year) and Nole (Top Model Dude) and chilled with our favorite photographer Rick Louis.
Later we headed to Tenjune for the Duckie Brown party and then skipped it to head to Arena for Seven New York’s party. Insane till I got a bit tipsy and headed home which I regretted since B.F.F’s stayed and chilled with designer Bernard Willhelm.
Day Two.
Headed out to Academy of Arts. Loved Juhee Chung for women and Shady N. R. Elias for men (change your name to Shady Elias and you’ll be fine). Eel skin might be my knew favorite skin thanks to Elias. Brunch at Penelope’s and then back to the tents for Anorexic Herchcovich. Every other model looked like they had cancer and we’re on life support. For some reason I was expecting more from this Brazilian designer, especially since most Brazilian girls are a bit more sumptuously hot (i.e. Gisele). Feed your models dude, cause the girls bulging veins really distracted me from your halfway decent collection.
Fashion Indie supports anti-life support models. This dude doesn’t.
Backstage I congratulated Cobra Snake on his Paper Magazine Nightlife Award win (I’m guessing that’s like the Oscar’s of his field) and was quickly entranced by Cory Kennedy, who seems so much more down to earth in person (I officially retract about half the things I may have said or thought about her). Rebecca thought she looked a bit “nappy” and I was a bit in shock that I was the only one in my crew of four that knew who she really was (I really need to stop reading Nylon).
Two of the Misshapes showed up. Leigh needs to eat something, pronto. The girl used to be hot, but now she’s just scary looking (also see black is out, wear some color).
Was tired after the show so headed home. Skipped Ruffian, Sass & Bide, Rock & Republic, Alexander Wang and all the afterparties. Guess I’m getting too old for this sh*t.
Final Thoughts.
- Thanks to Bob Bland of Brooklyn Royalty (amazing dull name for a pretty cool girl) for pointing out Anorexic Herchcovich’s view on eating disorders. You we’re right, we can’t support this.
- Cory Kennedy is still cool. I can’t really hate on anyone successful who is younger than me.
- Cobra Snake, also cool but he really should dress better and get a hair cut. (if you need a stylist please feel free to contact us.)
- Cassie K. of NY Couture is the next Heatherette. Spread it like hotcakes.
- Edwing D’angelo is no Marc Jacobs. Start your show on time next season, buddy.
