TWITS: Sienna Miller Changed Her Outfit 6 Times In One Day
I saw this tweet from InStyle’s Twitter, and headed over to their site to indeed find photo proof, Sienna Miller changed her outfit six times yesterday while in New York. Two were for TV appearances (The Early Show and The Today Show), which is understandable, but the other four?

STREET HEROES: Chloe, New York

First of all, the photographer did a great job with this shot. Secondly, I love her outfit. That belt is really cool, and different from whatever you’d find at Urban Outfitters (not that I don’t like Urban Outfitters, I just praise effort). The green looks great with her hair color, and the blouse is definitely a step above a tshirt for me (that would’ve been easy).

Our Fresh New Column: “Playing The Field” with Adrien Field

We are so excited to introduce our newest columnist Adrien Field. A true New York social climber, Adrien gives us the dish and dirt on what’s hot on the New York Nightlife scene. From the best new DJ’s to the exclusive invite-only parties he loves to frequent, Adrien gives you the insider look into the world of champagne and flashing lights.
Enjoy his first column and tell us what you think in our comments section:
When you are single and fabulous in New York City, the majority of your going-out happens during the week: charity parties, art openings, society benefits, etc. all compete for the precious 7-9PM timeslot Monday through Thursday so that by the time Friday hits, you’re ready to trade in your Berluti shoes for a tub of Ben and Jerry’s.
Last weekend began on a rather odd note as I had an event to attend on a Saturday evening. Now normally my Saturday nights are reserved for “me time”–instead of mingling with the masses that make their way over the bridges and through the tunnels in their Mazda Miatas to party at Marquee, I can normally be found in my bathrobe flipping through fashion magazines or watching old episodes of Sex and the City (I actually haven’t yet figured out whether this is the cause or effect of my perpetual single-status).
Anyway, back to the party. I ventured out west with my trusted companion, recording artist Alexandra Alexis, to the Ward-Nasse gallery for a private reception celebrating the launch of Amanda Dolan’s exhibition. You could say that everything followed a similar theme: from Amanda’s Cyndi Lauper-inspired look (crimped hair and all) to the sweet pink cupcakes and even more saccharine art featuring an overdose of cute, it was like inhabiting the mind of a lovesick single girl where shoes and the artist’s dog were reoccurring images. Heart attack indeed.
On Monday night, it was a slightly different vibe as we headed to the northern-limits of our Manhattan—14th street—for yet another art event. This one was a loft party and silent auction featuring works inspired by the Notorious BIG. Though supposed guest Russel Simmons was nowhere to be found, we did spot a woman who looked exactly like Victoria Gotti, complete with Malibu Barbie bleached blond hair and an entirely white ensemble, topped off with a sun hat and long French manicured nails.
The next night, since I had started my week early (and I wasn’t invited to anything exciting) I ditched the social scene and instead met up with my friend Sara from Belvedere for a little partying à la français. Her company sponsors the members-only French Tuesdays, a gathering for euro-business types, so nous sommes allés to 1Oak at the very sensible hour of 8PM for some champagne binging. We drank like royalty as we hovered around the Vice President of Moët-Hennesy’s table where Dom Perignon and rosé Moët flowed as abundantly as Bernie Madoff’s tears during his first night in prison and probably cost a sum only his investors could have once afforded.
From champagne to vodka, Alexandra and I were reunited the next day for a night of fun and VIP treatment at the Absolut Mango party. Absolut took over the Lotus Event Space on 26th street in Chelsea and transformed it into a tropical paradise. As we walked in, we were greeted by the sight of a woman peeling mangos in front of artificial palm flora. The accompanying fauna was to be found deeper inside in the form of the event’s guests—no notable attendees to report, just free vodka enthusiasts dressed mostly in post-work attire (a no-no if you want to be photographed). Alexandra and I took a seat in one of the “reserved” cabanas, observing the crowd from our rarified perch. After lounging languorously and sipping cocktails for some time, we decided we’d had enough of the tropics and head back into the New York tundra, though not before leaving with a mango on a stick.
Thursday was undoubtedly the highlight of the week: the Vanity Fair/USA Network party for the new book/exhibition Character Project. “Characters” were definitely the theme of the night: as yours truly walked the gigantic step and repeat (Adrien, look here! This way!), one photographer bewilderingly shouted, “Bring back the Devil!” which I thought must be a reference to the Prada belt which cinched the waist of my vest. It wasn’t until I had regained my nerves and was halfway into my first glass of champagne (one of many that evening) that I actually noticed the devil casually strolling around the exhibition with a detached look on his horned-face (the underworld must be so much more entertaining). The man was dressed in a suit, painted entirely red and wore platform shoes. I still have not yet figured out the meaning of this. Among the more celestial guests were Christian Siriano, Lucy Liu, Mena Suvari, Rose McGowan and others who stopped by for champagne with a side of culture.
Hot DJ of the moment Sky Nellor spun the tracks while the crowd mingled and reveled in their general fabulousness. I caught up with Gossip Girls Dreama Walker and Amanda Setton, whom I’d both met during this past Fashion Week. Dreama and I traded secrets about our provenance (we’re both too fabulous to be associated with the states in which we grew up) and she dished that you shouldn’t expect to see her on the season finale—which they’re still taping—as she’s missing the filming for her sister’s wedding. I made a few more trips around the room, saying my mandatory hellos and after drinking so much champagne that I almost went up to speak to the devil, I knew it was time to head home.
By the end of the week, I was back with my two most reliable boyfriends: Ben and Jerry.

Indies to Watch: Tanya Dziahileva
So, you’ve all probably been wondering who the twiggy, elfish, almost alien like blonde chick taking over runways and editorials everywhere is. Well, ladies and gentlemen, meet Tanya Dziahileva, the 17-year-old Ukrainian and Polish-Belarussian hot commodity.
I actually had the opportunity to meet Ms. D at the International Model and Talent Association in 2006. At that time, she was recently picked up by IMG models and her career was just beginning, a runway show here and an fashion ad there. But now, you can’t even touch the teenage top model. Ms. D has walked in over 100 shows, including the coveted position as opener for Rag & Bone and closer for Miss Sixty. From New York to Paris and Milan, Ms. D has modeled for nearly every top designer. And snagging a spot on the cover of Russian Vogue ain’t half bad for a girl who hasn’t even hit college yet.
She might look like Tinkerbell, but her youthful, edgy look has got designers everywhere craving more, more, more!

Star Light, Star Bright in the Spotlight
If New York Fashion Week didn’t drill the upcoming trends into your head, then a recap with this weekend’s Emmy Awards certainly did! It’s all about being the brightest crayon in the box this season, and what color could be more eye-catching than yellow? Forget the fuchsia, the teal and the lime-green…bring on the mellow (or not so mellow) yellow!
Flirty. Funky. Fun. These stars certainly caught our attention!

Before They Could Afford Good Coke: Taylor Momsen
Before:
After:
Oh Taylor Momsen, you’re always so attractive and cute on Gossip Girl. What happened? You got the fat check from The CW, and you aren’t looking so good. The second image is a shot of Taylor Momsen at Fashion Week, and she looks like she just got back from blowing some fat rails off Karl Lagerfeld’s antique dick with Kate Moss. I guess now that she is a famous celeb who gets from row seats at Fashion Week, she can finally afford to get some coke that is worthy of the nostrils of only the top fashion gods. Keep crowding around the bathroom sink to “powder” your nose, and you could be the next Mischa Barton, and no one wants that.

Moments in Fashion Week
Friday began a new season of Fashion Week. New York is bursting with editors, actors, models, stylists, wannabe’s, and Andre J look-a-likes. Here are some quick-hitters from the last couple of days:
Spit-out-that cereal, you’re in the presence of the Zoe. Rachel Zoe wrangled ‘friend’/client Kate Hudson to celebrate her new show ‘The Rachel Zoe Project’ (shudder)
Tyra doing her favorite thing, throwing a party for herself, and her Harper’s Bazaar cover (shudder)
Rihanna rocking the tailored menswear look on the way to rehearsing for the 5th Fashion Rocks concert
Mary Kate handling the hipster side of Fashion Week. Here she is at the Dazed and Confused magazine party

New York Fashion Week Resolution: Change the Industry
So New York Fashion Week is here and everyone and their stylish, possibly queer, spandex wearing nephew are getting excited about the models, the celebrities, and the swag bags. Honestly though, I’m over it.
Every year it’s the same circus. We all rush to Bryant Park. We all wait in line. We all find our seats. The lights dim and the models hit the runway and we all end up pretty bored sitting in the dark as last years hits come playing over the sound system. It’s a joke really that an industry that’s supposed to be so on the cusp on the newest trend has gotten stuck on one set model for how to present fashion.
It’s ridiculous really. Pencil thin models are boring, especially when they’re pale and dull. Most of the collections are tired, seriously, how many times can you recreate a basic black dress?!? And the after parties are usually pretty blah. Basically, it’s all the same, every season it’s the same thing, and frankly I’m tired of it.
So my New York Fashion Week Resolution is to change the game. To make fashion exciting again. To take it beyond the runways, to present it in a new way, to make people take notice and to give young designers the chance to break free from the silly restraints established by IMG and Vogue. We started seasons ago with fashion show concerts, now we’re hosting shows on the Brooklyn Bridge for millions of people to witness.
The world of fashion is changing so keep it here on fashionindie.com cause we’re sparking the change.
Next, year expect bigger events, more designers, and a fashion week that will trump all others as Fashion Indie Media presents another season of Fashion Indie Week!!!

Partyindie: Bust Celebrates 15 Years of Pro-Fem Hyjincks
For the longest time I thought that BUST was a lesbo magazine cause it was all about getting women to get things off their chests. I’d flip through issues hoping for some girl on girl action, only to find that the whole this was about empowerment and womens issues and PMS. Total let down.
Doesn’t mean it wasn’t a good read though. Now celebrating 15 years of kicking boys in the groin, BUST is celebrating it’s anniversary with cover girl Amy Sedaris, Murray Hill, Morningwood (they’re still performing?!?), and Le Tigre.
Major bonus: Gift bags, Free Subscriptions, and Cupcakes.

New York Fashion Week Is Closing In Fast…Here’s The Schedule
Well Here it is. This is a week of pure madness for anyone in the fashion world. My best advice is to start working on your plan of attack now so you make sure you get to see all of your favorite designers. Don’t forget Fashion Indie Week Brooklyn overlaps this schedule too, so plan your trips to Brooklyn as well.
Thanks you Trendmill for spilling the beans on this one.

Boutique Critique: Aloha Rag
I’m as giddy as a school girl on prom night. The new Aloha Rag store rocks out with it’s Hawaiian cock out at its new Greenwich Street outpost. This is one retailer I do adamantly hope sticks around cause the pretentiously ill spots like 7 are getting so tiring to shop at lately.
The store was founded in Honolulu in 1991 by Tatsugo Yoda but found a minor cult following online.
The new location will carry of the designers that define the Hawaii store and online selection, including a limited edition collabo with Japanese label Garment House Mania, select 3.1 Phillip Lim, Lanvin, Martin Margiela, and Yochinori Kotake Design, in addition of several smaller, independent designers from Japan and New York.
I love the cool, clean array of men’s and women’s clothing, but Aloha Rag’s accessories collection is what impresses us the most – unisex totes and sneakers from Lucian Pallat-Finet, Ksubi sunglasses, spring-y cotton scarves from Golden Goose are just a few.

SceneSpark: Saturday Night at Mansion
I’m not one to normally hit up Chelsea when I’m looking for a spot to dance my ass off on a Saturday night, usually opting for spaces less known for their “Jersey” appeal/more known for their underground cred, but when Becks received an invite to check out Mansion this past weekend I jumped at the chance to see what had become of the space that was once fondly referred to by NYer’s as Hoebar (Crobar’s old spot).
Situated on 28th Street between 10th and 11th, Mansion is in the “heart” of New York’s nightclub scene (even though the area seems more like it’s “asshole” when you drive by the area anytime after midnight on the weekends). A plethora of drunk bridge and tunnelers crowd the streets that make up this clusterfuck of “hip, downtown” clubs. Spots better known for their police presence than for their scene such as Home, Guesthouse, and Marquee have made this area a no-fly zone for any indies looking to dance when the 80s/90s mindmeld of Luke & Leroy’s finally gets to them. Mansion is changing that idea.
As we walked up to the door, the standing scene was a mix of over-dressed Wall Street types, under-dressed Hoboken notties, and rightly-roided bouncers, who made me fear for the worse; a party scene filled with undesirables. While on line, we spotted Matt Oliver, a door guy notoriously known for denying New York’s most rejectable dwellers from some of the “hottest” (I use the term loosely) clubs in the city. Door people in NY are known for being assholes, douchebags, and/or bitches and usually maintain an attitude between “slightly amusing” to “dear lordy I wish I carried a firearm”. Matt Oliver was … pretty cool. He maintained a professional door and was actually pretty fashionable, though recent sources suggest his looks are more calculated than most (check out his blog, BadLoveSongs.com for an inside peak at his new look “wedding reception”. It’s actually worthy of imitation.).

(image NYMag)
Once inside I was amazed at how much the space had changed. Heroine chic art lined the walls of the coat check, flames shot up from glassed cases making certain areas perfect for some passionate tongue action, and giant crystal orbs reflected thousands of shimmering light gems across a canvas of moving bodies mesmerized by resident DJ’s who laid danceable tracks quicker than any Misshape. The new owners had transformed the herpes sore of the Chelsea nightlife scene into a glistening dance scene which successfully transports humdrum New Yorkers into an uncharted Miami Sound System. And while the club did have it’s fair share of fashion fuck-ups who paraded around in official douchebag attire (oversized sportscoats on top of striped GAP shirts were the main offense for men) overall the massive space exuded a sense of exclusivity, a feat which isn’t easy considering the clubs ability to house thousands of the city’s trendiest.
At the end of the night, while most clubs will treat you to at least one or two passed out patrons lining the city streets in puddles of vomit worth $200 in consumed liquor, Mansion offered only a slight rumble as hundreds of boys and girls paraded off the dancefloor to enjoy more horizontal adventures at home. It’s definitely not a spot for the most narrow-minded, holier-than-thou of the indie set, but I would definitely recommend this spot for anyone looking for a break from the Billyburg spots where everybody knows your name.
Inside Tip: Fridays are for Fashion at Mansion. Young designers take the scene and showcase collections in a pompously chic setting.

Post-Fashion Week at Tenjune: A Night to Forget

February 9, 2008. Day 1, post Fashion Week, and the parties continue. Tenjune is considered one of the hottest clubs in NYC (P. Diddy hosting his after party on Friday and Paris Hilton making out with Elijah Dushku) so stopping by on a Saturday night after a week of celebrating the most fabulous people that embody the city that is NY, should not be a disappointment by any means. After standing in the cold and screaming “Alex,” to anyone that would respond (the infamous door guy), we entered the mecca that is…Tenjune, unzipped our coats, showed off the ‘girls,’ and looked around.
Step one: find “brother” Jimmy and his table of cheap champaign and water bottles posing as liquor. Step two: take shelter next to 1 of 8 jersey girls who wear v-neck poly-blended sweaters as dresses and play arts and crafts with sequins and nylon to create “bras” for their saggy grandma tits that they think is some kind of asset to score some ass. I first met a pro football jock right out of college wearing a baseball cap, t-shirt, and ripped up jeans. While trying to comprehend the pronounciation of my name, he checked out the leggings on jersey girl no. 1. and the fake nails on jersey girl no. 2. He was pretty cool. I obviously had no game. I guess my outfit just didn’t scream easy, cheap slut enough.

Jersey Chicks over 30 + Dudes Who Still Think their Varsity Football Stats Matter + Over-priced, Watered Down Drinks = Saturday Nights at Tenjune
Amid the 30 something blonde in cow print boots and her cousin 5 ft away in a matching cow print dress, we start to scope the scene away from our table (god forbid we leave). We danced, laughed, and checked out the unattractive, undesirable species that surrounded us. How could such a hotspot breed all of this synthetic trash?Isn’t the sourpuss guy at the door (Alex) supposed to be in control of this department?
About one painful hour into our “exclusive” experience, the party actually started to take flight. The DJ was exceptionally talented given the unfortunate circumstances of a lame, ego enduced crowd. A false eye seemed to spot Will-I-Am looking for his posse, only to find the first of a handful of style coming through the door. The cool people meter starts fluctuating with socialites making a non-dramatic entrance into the club and then fading into the crowd just as fast. The few post-fashion week stragglers still struggling to make it out one more night are sporting off the shoulder, paisley print dresses, fedora hats, skinny ties with vests, and a plethora of skin.
For some brief fleeting moments our hopes lifted and the night didn’t seem like a total waste, our only saving grace seemed to hit the repeat button as more and more potentially interesting people tricked in, but then the music turned sour and so did the scene. It was time to call it a night and take on the identity of a cow (seems fitting at this point) in a heard of cattle to retrieve our coats.
Pretentious nerds, sleezy promoters, and sequins galore, we pondered the previous 2 hours. Finally, we came to 3 fair and rational conclusions: 1. a new promotional idea – “Saturday: all from across the Hudson welcome!” 2. find out the name the DJ and become his #1 fan 3. next time just go to The Box.

Inspired by Carolina Herrera and her duck feathers!

INSPIRATION

REALIZATION
This show begins with the sounds of Chopin and finds itself in a world of electronic sounds, much like this great line, began and ended. Have you ever seen Robin Hood (feathers in the cap and array of patterns collapsing one after another from the tightly sown vest onto the velvet pants?) Well, imagine Robin Hood gone sexy and sweet for new york women!
Yellow and green chartreuse with highlights of burnt reds clothed these models from head to foot. Khaki riding pants coupled with the occasional chiffon ribbon draping the breeze behind. Very sexy dresses with movement in every direction looked nearly virgin like. The absolute impression that this show has left on me and that I have now transferred to my wardrobe is the idea of feathers, not just any feathers but, unique duck feathers with a design to add to a hat or pinned and weaved into my jacket!
Sitting front row is Anne Wintour, across from me with little to no expression and just the sweet smile that occasionally drew up on her face when she saw something that maybe got her. Carolina Herrera was inspired this season and it resonates in every stitch!

Runway: Rodarte, Fall 08
Hailing from Pasadena, sisters Kate and Laura Mulleavy, are not what you’d expect. Their sophisticated designs are much more Paris couture then California. With their strict attention to detail and romantic feminine appeal they have earned recognition from the best in the business.
This years Fall/Winter 2008 collection certainly didn’t disappoint expectations. A bevy of dresses, knits and stud detailing, ranging in color from pale creams and peach to blacks, reds and electric blue. Each outfit was paired with crocheted stockings, studded gloves and spiked metallic heels. A dress in lime fit for Tinkerbell was especially adorable, as was a striped, long sleeved mini. There were tutu dresses, cropped pants and three flowy, floor skimming goddess dresses as the last pieces. Overall this collection was a refreshing blast of goodness from a fashion week that has failed to impress.
