QUOTABLE: Nick Knight

Photographer Nick Knight just spoke with The Times UK about his preference between the two Supers: “Over the years I’ve felt I want to work with Naomi rather than Kate. I like the fact that Naomi sits less comfortably in society than Kate does,” he said. “Talk to Naomi and she is f***ing incandescent with rage that she’s not on the cover of Vogue. She puts it down to racism, and she’s furious.”

SHOWstudio.com Continues To Tantilize My Fashion Boner
Nick Knight’s, SHOWstudio.com is completely changing the way the world experiences fashion. With top designer exclusives, such as Gareth Pugh’s recent video presentation release, the site is quickly becoming a force in media that few in traditional publishing can comprehend.
Next up for the site is an April 28th live broadcast of a Nick Knight photoshoot. Titled Soft Furnishings – The Erotic House of Peter Savile, the shoot will be a sexually charged behind the scenes look at Knight’s July 2009 Wallpaper* magazine shoot.
According to Elle, “Knight’s team will construct an Erotic House, in which they will be sexualizing furniture, fashion and flesh. Expect daily shoot highlights, interviews, set shots, and a scan of the fashion rack, which is promised to be filled with Fall 2009 fashions from Prada, Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent and Marc Jacobs.”
Sex & Fashion. Tivo that bitch.

SPREAD UM: Lily Donaldson Shot by Nick Knight for Vogue UK

Lily Donaldson makes her outfits come alive in the spread “Fringe Festival” shot by Nick Knight for Vogue UK. I love that everything in the photos seems to be in motion; her dresses, hair and limbs are flying around in midair giving the illusion of extreme movement. My favorite dresses are most definitely the last two; she slightly reminds me of Big Bird in the second photo.
Thanks to Fashion Copious for the photos.

Collab-Ho: Nick Knight and Ruth Hogben
It has been in the works for a long time but finally SHOWstudio has launched the Insensate; a two minute short film by Nick Knight and filmmaker Ruth Hogben which was filmed during the cover shoot for the October issue of Dazed.
A gothic fairyland was conjured up and taking center position is Gareth Pugh’s autumn winter 2008 collection. The film’s soundtrack has been specially devised by artist Matthew Stone.

Spread Um: Unbelievable Fashion
There is noting more stunning than December British Vogue’s editorial titled “Unbelievable Fashion.” Leave it up to Nick Knight to capture Lily Donaldson and Jourdan Dunn in an imaginative, dream like pictorial poetry spread. This is an editorial for fashion lovers, dreamers and visionaries. Despite the anything but ready to wear fashions and amazing styling, this editorial seems so natural and effortless. Kudos Vogue, this is brilliant.
Thanks I Love Lily Donaldson!

Spread Um: ‘Sculpture Class’ Shot by Nick Knight for Vogue
Love Nick Knight, and love the delicateness of this spread. The colors are subdued yet sexy, and the brightness of the model’s orange hair really stands out amongst the other muted tones.

Don’t Mess with Naomi!

Supermodel Naomi Campbell stars in photographer and filmmaker Nick Knight’s film. The film ends with the infamous supermodel firing two handguns. I love it. While Campbell’s violent past could make this film hilarious, the movie’s subject touches on a serious fashion issue. The film’s premise is racism in the fashion industry.
Lately, this seems to be a hot topic. From Italian Vogue’s all black issue to small forums, the industry is taking note of the color void. The silent film addresses the blunt nature of designers, advertisers, editors and agencies who denounce black models for employment. While the film is only two minutes long, it is powerful and resonate.
“By my own inaction, I am guilty of allowing racism to be normalized and accepted in this business. This has made my deeply sad and increasingly angry.” - Nick Knight

Vogue Espana Celebrates 20 Years with Four Kate Moss Covers

Agyness Deyn isn’t the only model with multiple covers for one magazine this season (i-D mag shot her for 7 covers), Vogue Espana decided to celebrate it’s 20th year of offering chica’s fashion advice with four distinct covers featuring the last supermodel, Kate Moss. Nick Knight played his role in the shoot using stars as an overall theme for the covers. Moss was caught wearing a Chanel star print jump suit and a Yves Saint Laurent white satin star print dress.
I wonder if Kate Moss is pissed she only got four covers to Aggy’s seven?

Kate Moss. The Blushing Bride?

So we all know that Kate Moss is notorious for her inability to make it down the aisle with any of her rocker boytoys. But it seems that the model will finally get her day in white. No, she’s not taking it to the alter with her new Pete Doherty dopplegangler. Agent Provocateur will be releasing a new series of bridal lingerie and they’ve tapped Kate for the campaign. According to WWD, “Nick Knight will shoot a series of six images for the campaign, which will “portray Moss as a bride who has a last-minute change of heart.” The first shots will appear on the company’s Web site and will be released to the press in May. A film of Moss shooting the campaign also will premier on Knight’s Web site, Showstudio.com, on May 3.”
Back in 2006, when the brand featured Kate in an internet film title “The Four Dreams of Miss X”, fans flooded Agent Provacateur’s website causing it to crash. Hopefully this time around they have some backups.

Kate Moss, Poetry?

Photographer Nick Knight had a little fun with model Kate Moss for his recent Flowers for Kate shoot for V magazine last December. So much fun that he took all the extra footage and made this nifty little video where Kate provides a spoken soundtrack of Roddy Lumsden’s poem ‘Bloom’, which the poet composed on the set. Who knew horticulture could be so fashionable?

Agyness Deyn for i-D Magazine
![]()
Agyness Overload?
i-D’s May issue will feature not one, not two, not thirty (oh, to high) but FIVE Agyness Deyn covers!!! It may be a bit of Agyness Overload, which means any day now, remaining true to its cannibalistic nature, the media that has so kindly raised her to the status of “IT Girl” will ceremoniously break her down and leave her rotting size zero carcass on the side of some runway in Milan. Hell, if we did it to Britney and Kate Moss we’ll do it to this new face in a heartbeat.
The addition features editorials lensed by Terry Richardson (whose article in the recent issue of GQ is by far the best thing that magazine has produced in five years) and Nick Knight, in addition Deyn pens a few notes down with an essay on Vivienne Westwood. Plus, her mom and boyfriend, [insert forgettable guitarist here], get in on the Aggy gravy train by writing a few pieces on the model.
Can’t wait to ignore this issue of i-D as I pick up an issue of Us Weekly? Oh no, it’s started….
