- Paris Hilton‘s smelling all the way to the bank. The heiress has been standing (and probably occasionally kneeling) on her own two  for some time now and she’s claimed that since 2005 her fragrances have brought in over $1 billion. The workshop takes over the entire 5500 sq. ft. men’s floor and turns it into 8 stations: Candy Shop, Toy Shop, Closet (for apparel and accessories), Library (for books, CDs, media, and paper goods), Gallery (for collectibles and specialty items), Jewelry, Boudoir (for candles and cosmetics), and Holiday.  Our favorite pieces included a tiny mp3 player that had Gaga songs pre loaded, a baby sized motorcycle leather jacket, and crazy unique sets of elaborately accessorized press on nails.

Gaga’s Workshop will host some 170 items for sale, such as a $95 snow globe, a $68 handmade chocolate skull or a $65 claw Christmas stocking in which to stuff them. A new item will be revealed everyday from now until the Workshop’s launch during the “12 Days of Gaga” on the Gaga’s Workshop microsite; today’s featured gift, for instance, is a Gaga face cookie circa her “Telephone” heyday.

Hidden around the city and barneys.com are stickers bearing special codes one can scan or type into the microsite to unlock more info about the Workshop, while Willy Wonka-esque Golden Tickets will be given away to 30 lucky Monsters — allowing them a trip to New York and invitations to the opening of this modern day Chocolate Factory. Working with Barneys creative director Dennis Freedman, Formichetti and installation artists Eli Sudbrack and Christophe Hamaide Pierson of Assume Vivid Astro Focus are turning Barneys into a winter wonderland with eight imaginative stations. “We have a candy shop, which is a sculptural piece that holds the candy; the boudoir, this giant wig that will host all the makeup, fake nails and lipsticks; the spider with Gaga’s face with all the fake jewelry and stuff, and this giant pop-up book for all the books Gaga chose,” Formichetti explained to WWD.

Other features include a three-dimensional train for stuffed animals and a giant topiary spelling out Gag’s name, in lieu of a Christmas tree. And flanking the 60th Street entrance will be a giant Gaga monster, dramatic cat-eye and all, created by Sudbrack. Even the famous Barneys windows will undergo a truly Gaga transformation, with four different themes inspired by the Lady’s songs, such as one display completely rendered in “Hair.”

Formichetti also had an invaluable source in the grandmother of all Monsters, Mrs. Cynthia Germanotta. “She knew Gaga’s favorite chocolates or her favorite books when she was little.” Formichetti said. “We really wanted this experience to be like going through her memories, in a very surreal way. For that, I needed the help of Mrs. Germanotta.”

Just last week, mom and Stef Germanotta launched the Born This Way Foundation – to which 25% of all sales from the Workshop will go — to further empower youth and promote equality through antibullying, self-confidence, mentoring and career development programs.

Gaga’s Workshop opens November 21 at 11:59 p.m. and will stay open throughout the night and into the next day, finally closing on January 2. However, if you can’t make it into New York, or if you’d rather avoid the life-sapping holiday shopping crowd, a significant chunk of items will also be available for purchase online so you can still buy yourself some subversive Christmas cheer. The most hardcore way to go for the glitter is with a full-length red carpet ready dress. Elie Saab nailed this in emerald during Fashion Month. We can’t wait to see who wears this on the red carpet.

The golden latticework was digitally designed as flat pieces and riveted together to from this organic, dare we say, Snork village. To see it in person is spectacular, not just to understand the structure itself, but to marvel at the gemstones from Neuwirth’s collection. We spoke to her briefly at the opening about how she decided on Forbes.

“I had five architects to choose from and I was instantly hooked with Marc.  His design looked like jewelry and the color was really incredible. This has been the best experience. I sat down today and can’t believe it came to reality!”  We were eager to talk to Marc himself about the design but his wife went into labor an hour before the event so needless to say he was preoccupied.

Store hours will be: Monday – Saturday from 12 PM – 7 PM and Sundays 12 PM – 6 PM with press previews and special events throughout the span of the series.

Located at 57 Walker Street the installation will be open until October 12th.

Gaga gave details about the Mugler woman in a raspy whisper. In a nutshell, “don’t f*** with the Mugler woman”, she is quiet and strong, and she will eat you.”

The quiet, carnivorous Mugler models entered the runway in elegant designs that resembled paper cutouts from a Tim Burton film, with a more sophisticated touch than the Fall/Winter 2011 liquid latex S&M looks. The looks were actually wearable.

The slicked hair, lime green lips, glitter eyebrows, needle thin stilettos and asymmetric cut-out costumes in white, black and neutral tones with pops of color were designed for the futuristic sophisticate.

Formichetti took to Tumblr throughout the week to tease fans with tidbits of what to expect at the show. As usual, Gaga + Formichetti = captivating fashion theatrics, though we would have loved to see the Mugler muse werq her way down the runway again.

You may remember that Gags stomped down the runway for Formichetti’s debut collection with the brand last fashion week, putting to shame many of the professional catwalkers who toppled over in their impossibly high tranny heels. Well, get ready to be upstaged again, ladies.

The short features a new Gaga remix — adding to the 3000 remixes already making the gay rounds — and will premiere at the Mugler show on Wednesday September 28th at 9:30 pm — which I’m assuming is French time, making it more like 3:30 EST.

In the run-up to his spring 2012 collection, Formichetti will release teasers of the film via various social media networks and starting today the adorable panda will take to Tumblr as he liveblogs from the Mugler atelier. [WWD]

The mini-film was shot during the making of the Lady’s “Yoü and I” video with style direction by Nicola Formichetti. And frankly, it’s a lot more enjoyable than the finished product. [Fashionista]

Designed by Gage/Clemenceau Architects, it’s  got enough mirrored surfaces to send Lindsay Lohan flying right back into rehab. But you have to admit, it’s eye-catching — just don’t catch too much or you might end up with a migraine. But then again, the walls have to compete with a selection of Formichetti’s pieces selected from his work with Mugler and of course, that monster mother Gaga.

The kids at Nicola’s apparently had a few technical difficulties with their registers on Fashion’s Night Out, prompting the stylist-cum-designer to (jokingly, we think) tell everyone to just take whatever they wanted. Luckily for us, everything remained in tact and there’s still plenty of Mugler — both womenswear and menswear — as well as iPhone cases, jewelry candles, t-shirts and exclusive designs by emerging international designers to go around at 50 Walker St from now until September 21st.

A 3-D avatar of Zombie Boy

“Video is more descriptive, more entertaining and, really, the most detailed way to present a collection,” said Kamali,who will be showing her spring 2012 collection via a 3-D short film on September 14th. In addition to the film, Kamali created a 3-D lookbook that can be viewed in different formats — including the good ole-fashioned red-and-blue cardboard glasses — at normakamali3d.com starting September 15th.

Mugler creative director Nicola Formichetti on the other hand worked with fantasy-gaming company, CCP Games, to create a video featuring an avatar of his muse, Zombie Boy aka Rick Genest. The video that will be shown on a seven-foot screen at Formichetti’s BOFFO pop-up store opening September 8th at 57 Walker St. Viewers will also be able to manipulate the angle and speed of the video using an iPad docked at a nearby podium.

In the video, Zombie Boy wears a leather jacket designed specifically for the 3-D environment and while Formichetti concedes that they could “make that into a product,” he’s “excited for the idea that it doesn’t actually exist in the physical world. It’s not about a product or a T-shirt. It’s about a new idea.”

And I’m excited for this 3-D interactive video, mostly because I’m a nerd at heart; though I will say, real Zombie Boy is a lot cuter — and, funny enough, less creepy — than avatar Zombie Boy. [NYT]

Gag’s little sis, Natali Germanotta, is the odds on favorite — possibly for the Haus of Germanotta – with notable runners-up Nicola Formichetti (natch), Gareth Pugh, Atsuko Kudo, Donatella Versace and Vivienne Westwood.

Stella McCartney and Donna Karan are the least likely candidates — I guess a shawl-collared jersey wedding  gown is a bit at odds with the Gaga aesthetic. But what about a Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen creation? I wouldn’t put it past the Lady to get married in the exact same dress as Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge…only because it would be hilarious.

As for the material of the dress, bets range from balloons to flowers and glass.

But here we are putting the unicorn before the cart. News of Gaga even dating anyone is news to me, let alone getting married. I’d hope if Lady Gaga were getting married she’d at least have the decency and class to whore the story — and herself — out, Kardashian-style. [WWD]

The idea behind this new fashion adventure is “to remodel the styles of classic icons from the past, for example, Marilyn Monroe, Grace Kelly, and Katherine Hepburn.” Well, you can never go wrong with old Hollywood, I always say, and it would be interesting to see Kitty Hep’s trouser-loving style translated by someone not really known for wearing pants.

Natali, a Parsons grad, is already outfitting an off-Broadway show and will presumably handle the lion’s share of design duties; especially since big sis is stretched thin as it is, what with the demands of being a global phenomenon and all — something I can identify with (no big deal). Gaga the Younger is rumored to be “coming up with a slew of design options” and rest assured, “everything will have their twist on it.”[Grazia Daily, Daily Telegraph]

- Daphne Guinness on first meeting Alexander McQueen: “I admired him and didn’t want to meet him because I am quite shy, but Isabella [Blow] said I must. But I didn’t want to be a groupie. It had to happen organically. You don’t have to know someone to love their work. One day he saw me walking across the street in his kimono and he ran up to me and said, ‘I’m the person you don’t want to meet!’ We went to a pub and hit it off. Brazilian-born installation artist Eli Sudbrack of Assume Vivid Astro Focus — working under the direction of Barneys creative director Dennis Freedman – developed the artwork for Gaga’s Workshop, which will be featured throughout the workshop, in display windows, on shopping bags and in packaging.

The workshop — open from mid-November through January 2 — will be a Gaga-inspired shopping environment featuring limited-edition gifts designed by the popstar and her wonder twin, Nicola Formichetti. Barneys.com will also carry these gifts — which include candies, toys, apparel, accessories, candles and cosmetics – through a special microsite with 25% of sales from the workshop being donated to a charity of Lady Gaga’s choosing.

“Holiday is about joy, sharing and inclusiveness, and to me, Gaga really represents all of that,” explains Mark Lee, chief executive officer of Barneys New York. Lee took his inspiration from Gaga’s recent takeover of New York landmarks — “from Carnegie Hall for the Rainforest Benefit to the Metropolitan Museum and the Today show at Rockefeller Center” — and, of course, Babs Streisand‘s first TV special featuring a performance in Bergdorf’s.

While Gaga is expected to show up to the unveiling of the workshop, Lee hopes that she’ll be so “blown away” she puts on a little show of her own right then and there. Ugh, imagine? It would be something of a miracle on Madison Avenue. Oh, I do believe in Lady Gaga! I do! I do! [WWD]

In addition to his own brand, NICOLA’S will showcase 12 young designers from China, “cool stuff from Japan,” Uniqlo, a performance space as well as creations he’s done for Mugler and go-to muse Lady Gaga. NICOLA’S will be open from September 8-21 at 57 Walker St in Tribeca.

Meanwhile, Formichetti also describes his vision for Mugler:

I want Mugler to become a digital global brand. I want to create a new kind of fashion brand, a new way of looking at fashion and take a step into digital communication. A kind of brand that hasn’t been seen before, something new for our next generation. 

The future of fashion:

For me, the digital approach is very important, it’s the future. But we should not forget about our reality, the physical world. We always need to embrace new things, but never be dependent on them. There will be fashion magazines on paper and on-line. The fashion industry as a whole will shift towards digitalism too. I don’t really know how, but it’ll be great! I love change!

And his trials and tribulations at Starbucks:

 I used to hate my name, I always thought, Nicola sounds a lot like a girl..And Formichetti is just weird.. kind of like Spaghetti! I always wanted to change it to Nick, and my surname to Williams.. or Smith.. Nick Smith. I always got embarrassed at Starbucks, when they asked my name..I said its Nick..didnt want them to make weird faces. I guess I got used to it now.

From May 19th- July 4th BOFFO will conduct a worldwide competition in partnership with Architizer in search of world-class architects to pair with these innovative fashion designers. Architects are asked to submit design proposals expressing their vision of a retail space for their fashion designer of choice.

Winners will be awarded $20,000 to build and install their installation.

He is none other than Rick Genest, aka Rico, aka Zombie Boy, aka the muse of Mugler’s and Gaga’s Nicola Formichetti.

As Formichetti told Hint, “I had his picture on my wall forever. I saw it one day on Google. I thought it was amazing Halloween make-up done by Peter Philips or something.”

We all know by now that that shit is permanent. Well, Formichetti went on to find Zombie Boy’s true identity and to find him on Facebook, and whisked him away to Paris (having paid his near 20 thousand dollar fines for sleeping in the street, and also having gotten him a passport in record time), to have him model in his debut men’s show.

Providing that element is stylist and Gay Friday, Nicola Formichetti, who keeps Her Royal Gagness resplendent in her staples — Mugler, Alexander McQueen, Versace and Dior — with a sprinkling of a custom Francesco Scognamiglio bodysuit here and a gothic Tex Saverio dress there.

Make no facial prosthetics bones about it, when it comes to putting on a show, there’s no one who can do it like Lady Gaga. Whether you care to see the show is a matter of personal opinion, but as long as she keeps making me dance, laugh and maybe even occasionally think, I’ve got my ticket.
