It’s been a particularly newsworthy week in the world of retail, what with H&M‘s announcement of a new chain of stores and Reebok and Nike taking it to the line of scrimmage — Ed. note: I don’t actually know what that means — over Tim Tebow. And here are the latest developments.

Everyone wants a piece of Tim Tebow. The newly-minted NY Jets quarterback is a hot commodity these days, even without having played a single game in New York. Now Nike and Reebok are getting into a custody battle over that honored Christian soldier with Nike claiming that Reebok has been using Tebow’s name on NFL-branded material without authorization.

Tennis hottie Rafael Nadal continues to show it off in something more than a Nike tank top. Obviously Armani is happy with his previous performance because they asked him to star in the Autumn/Winter 2011 advertising campaign for Armani Jeans and Emporio Armani Underwear. Picture it. Sicily. Jail. Imprisoned mobsters in Palermo’s Ucciardone prison are too fly and the new governor Rita Barbera is straight up playa hatin’. Barbera is imposing a new prison order by banning the stylish mobsters from wearing luxury brands such as Prada, Gucci, Valentino, Versace, Louis Vuitton and Armani.

Unik (pronounced “Unique”) Ernest lived up to his descriptive moniker during our brief but enlightening conversation over lunch today. Brief because he had only a few hours before friends with names like Naomi Campbell, Rosario Dawson, Nigel Barker and Jamie Foxx descended on the Dream Downtown for his 40th birthday celebration. Enlightening because I learned about Unik’s charity Edeyo and their fourth annual fundraiser which also coincides with his birthday and has ever since he first started it four years ago with the purpose of helping the poor and disadvantaged children of Haiti.
