RUNWAY: Nina Ricci Spring 2010 emerging fashion

The rebranding of Nina Ricci was inevitable with the recent replacement of Olivier Theyskens. Peter Copping introduced a much softer vibe to the label, bringing some girly, somewhat Victorian, tiered dresses and little cardigan numbers. The collection was “pretty,” far from the edgy, mysterious look Theyskens contributed to the label. I can’t say it’s a change I’m embracing with open arms, but Copping knows his shtick and I look forward to more from him.

Peter Copping to Replace Olivier Theyskens at Nina Ricci emerging fashion

The rumors about Peter Copping heading design at Nina Ricci are true. On Monday, the ex–Louis Vuitton designer officialy replaced Olivier Theyskens, and started working on a resort collection to be unveiled in late June. However, his first runway show won’t take place until next March,  allowing  him plenty of  time to situate himself  in the label before coming-out at Paris Fashion Week.

When it comes to high fashion footwear, practicality is rarely taken into consideration. I’ve seen many crazy shoes on the streets of New York, but when you’re designing runway exclusive shoes, never to be worn by even the top of New York’s elite, the sky’s the limit. As we know, fall 2009 was  Oliver Theyskens final collection for Nina Ricci, an anticipated collection that Theyskens’ fans hoped he would go big on. But Theyskens didn’t go big, he went huge. My favorite part of the collection was the over-the-top shoes, which will sadly remain as archives of Theyskens’ best work. Not only is it a shame that I can’t get my hands on the lace-up ankle boots, it’s a shame that Nina Ricci will never be the same. Whoever is next has some mighty crazy shoes to fill.

BEHIND THE BEAUTY: June 08 Vogue Featuring Sarah Jessica Parker magazines

I was feeling a little SEX AND THE CITY: with Fashion Week wrapped up in NYC. So today I re-picked up one of my “keeper” magazine, the June 2008 issue of Vogue with Sarah Jessica Parker on the cover and a spread featuring her and Chris Noth.

GALLERY: SJP and Chris Noth for Vogue

SJP’s makeup was flawless, the locations were beautiful, as were her designer dresses; some of my favorites; the Nina Ricci emerald green silk-satin dress, the Versace chiffon dress and the Chanel boucle’ suit, the Lanvin hat and Philip Crangi for Vera Wang cuff bracelet were all so lavish and girlie regal…and how can I forget about those Christian Louboutin pumps!

In the movie, she wore two amazing wedding dresses that was such a WOW factor for me. The elegant Vera Wang wedding dress and the Dior Haute Couture jacket and skirt were just breath taking.

So for all of you SJP/Carrie fans, I have a treat for you. Below you will find a video of behind the scene footage from the VOGUE Magazine shoot as well as a makeup list that Makeup Artist Judy Chin used on SJP for the movie.

Rumors, Rumors Are So Much Fun! emerging fashionRumors, Rumors Are So Much Fun! emerging fashionI’m not one of those people who thrive off of drama, but an occasional rumor or two about something fashion related is an excellent incentive to get up in the morning. Grazia reported yesterday that Olivier Theyskens has left Nina Ricci! The rumors have been floating for a good chunk of time, but we anticipated Theyskens to at least stay through Nina Ricci F/W 2009!  We love Olivier Theyskens as a designer, but I guess his looks aren’t translating to profit for Ricci.

On the brighter side, Gareth Pugh is rumored to consult for Dior Homme! This rumor took flight when Delphine Arnault, daughter of LVMH CEO Bernard Arnault was seen front row at the recent Pugh menswear show!

Releasing the Pre-Fall ‘09 collection with a strong sense of pride, Nina Ricci designs have hit the runway. The newest line is composed of dresses, pants, shirts, coats and more, all ready to take on the streets with confidence. The Pre-Fall line doesn’t focus on a specific color palette, instead, with both powerful and bright shades, there’s a little something for everyone.

“When the economy changes, it’s not like you want to start eating bad-tasting chocolate, you have to stay true to what you’re doing, and the house of Nina is about luxury.”

Olivier Theyskens said after showing his pre-fall collection for Nina Ricci in New Yor.

Juliette Has A Gun, And A Very Powerful Smell

Juliette Has A Gun, And A Very Powerful Smell all indie

I was just turned on to the great collection “Juliette Has a Gun,” a perfume collection from Romano Ricci, great-grandson of famed couturier Nina Ricci. I have not gotten myself this collection just yet…but I am sure when I do, I will find a favorite out of these decadent perfumes. As I type this, I can smell the rose and vanilla scents in my hair and I feel like I should be wearing a pair of sexy Christian Dior black leather boots. Inspired by one of Shakespeare’s most-beloved heroines, Romano’s first two scents in the collection -Lady Vengeance and Miss Charming-were created with the assistance of master perfumer Francis Kurkdjian. Citizen Queen, the new scent, I think will be my first purchase.

Juliette Has A Gun, And A Very Powerful Smell all indie

Elegant yet bristling with wild, thorny rose, Lady Vengeance hides its claws under velvety rose petals, soft patchouli and seductive vanilla. Sly and charming under her rosy exterior, Lady Vengeance lays waste to the non-believers in the seductive powers of rose by wrapping her legs around earthy patchouli and dipping her fingers in the time honored man slayer of golden vanilla, a combination that’s impossible to deny. Resistance is futile! Lady Vengeance top notes are Bulgarian rose, vanilla, patchouli.

Miss Charming bats her eyelashes with innocence and virginal sweetness, a gentle rose scent sweetened with a burst of wild fruits resulting in a wispy and flirty perfume that brightens any occasion. I bet your friends and coworkers will stand a little closer when you wear this, smile a little more and chat a little longer. It might be your sparkling wit and scintillating conversation, suspect it’s just Miss Charming working her sweet, sweet magic. Miss Charming notes are Moroccan rose, musk, wild fruits.

Juliette had a gun, now it also has a crown. Citizen Queen the third weapon in this hip series of rose fragrances is the most powerful one yet. Blended with amber and patchouli, the dark, leathery rose at the center of the composition takes no prisoners. Violet and iris soften the striking mix, adding a charming retro quality to the perfume. Veiled by this delicately powdery accord, the rose is mysterious, elusive, endlessly intriguing. Citizen Queen main notes are Leather, Bulgarian Rose, Iris, Amber, Immortal flowers, Labdanum.

Wanna Smell Like a Cold Blood Thirsty Vampire? all indie

Finally saw the movie last week, and I must admit it was as bad as people claimed. Yes, Robbie Pattinson IS HOT, and Bella is beautiful, but the script and direction were awful. I was left with too many questions, not enough action, and a sappy PG love story…

On that note, we might be late on writing about this, but Twilight has released a fragrance that is being sold at Hot Topic. And I’m confused on the inspiration for this smell, maybe blood, and why the hell is it shaped like an apple? Now that I think of it, it kinda looks familiar, sort of like an old Nina Ricci perfume that I once had…

Honestly, I would have preferred a lotion that makes my skin look ‘diamond like.’

Please comment if you’ve smelled this dreck, and let us know what this smells like.

Thanks Perez Hilton

Is Nina Ricci Letting Olivier Theyskens Go? emerging fashion

The word on the street is that Olivier Theyskens is on his way out of Nina Ricci. Apparently, his Spring 2009 failed to impress buyers.

So sad considering that Anna Wintour herself gave Theysken’s her personal vote of confidence by giving the designer a CFDA award back in 2002 when he was heading design at Rochas at the tender age of 25.

Honestly though, isn’t it about time this designer got his own line?

Shame In a Bag emerging fashion

You’ve got a dirty little secret. Your boyfriend just dumped you so you decided to go online for some retail therapy. Before you finish packing up your stuff to move back in with mom and dad, you take one last spin on your ex’s credit card. Oh yes, you just dropped $3,790 on the ombre brushed wool coat by Nina Ricci. You could have it gift wrapped and overnighted for immediate use. You could send it by ground mail to your parent’s place. Or better yet, you can have it hand delivered, in a paper bag, to your door. Thanks to Net-A-Porter, nobody need to know what you bought or where it came from. You’ll definitely get away with it, your ex believing it’s simply some comforting chow mein from the local Chinese food dive. So spend away, all guilt is hidden in the brown paper bag! Just make sure you change your forwarding address and cell number…

“Come Fall, designers like Maurizio Pecoraro are advocating a monochrome vision that extends from head to stockinged toe. “My idea was to create a pure look,” explains Pecoraro, who conjured his eighties-era memories of singly hued looks from Claude Montana. The cherry on top of this ultra-matched look is tights, particularly in hard-to-find hues like persimmon at Bottega Veneta, ocher at Nina Ricci, and burgundy at Albino. (Stow the matte black Wolfords for next season.) Knee boots created a similar effect at Akris and Halston, but hosiery’s hegemony is undeniable. Even pattern-loving designers like Anna Sui and Paul Smith ordered up custom leg wear for complete coordination.”

I thought I would post these photos of SJP at the New York Sex and the City Premiere as a morning treat for all our FI readers. SJP chose a lovely Nina Ricci dress to wear to what seems like the 15th premiere for this movie.

Here is Irina Kulikova wearing the dress on the runway for the Spring/Summer Nina Ricci collection. Olivier Theyskens, the sexual ambiguous fashion designer of Nina Ricci, described the collection as: “It was a group of girls you’d see on the street in the early morning coming from a ball” Maybe it’s a European thing, but has anyone seen a girl do a walk of shame in a $15,000 handmade gown? Guess it’s what makes us Americans different from those Euros
