With Anna Sui hitting up the Morrison Hotel Gallery, paying homage to Kurt Cobain through Jesse Frohman’s iconic images, I got to chat with her about how Nirvana played its way into her aesthetics. As we spoke of the grunge movement, other movements came to mind, like her quest to Save the Garment Center, and the eco revolution that could really use a game changer of Kurt Cobain proportions to shake it up. It Smells Like Teen Spirit down on Prince St. at the Morrison Hotel Gallery. This month, floor to ceiling prints of Kurt Cobain‘s most famous photos hang as a testament to the power of the legendary music and style icon. In November of 1993, photographer Jesse Frohman got a call from the London Observer Sunday Times Magazine to shoot the Nirvana frontman for the cover of the next issue. With a handful of his own clothing, Kurt Cobain showed up to the basement of a conference room on the day of his Roseland Ballroom show, and let his personality pour through Frohman’s lens. Jesse takes us back to that day, where nerdy kid scientist t-shirts got cool, and Kurt Cobain nearly puked in a bucket. Teen spirit, indeed.

After a three year discussion with his wife, previous drummer, and record company, an agreement has been reached to add Kurt Cobain to the list of characters in Guitar Hero 5.  Cobain blamed fans and fame for his depression which led to his suicide in 1994, and Perez Hilton thinks this is ‘selling out after death’ (ouch..too soon?)
